Shari's Berries

SHARI'S BERRIES Visit Site

Cost:

From $29.99 to $199.99

Shari's Berries is known for its beautifully dipped, chocolate covered strawberries and has sold over 175 million. But many don't know that they also sell fruit baskets with organic and farm-fresh fruits. Many of these options also include other gourmet food in them to add a little spice and further delight the recipient. Some of these gourmet options include: nuts, dried fruit, chocolate covered pretzels - just to name a few.

Shopping for a beautiful gift basket is easy at Shari's. At the top of their website they have different categories you can choose from and under the baskets section is a sub-category for fruit baskets. Fruit baskets at Shari's range in price from $29.99 for a "Simply Snacks Gift" box that includes dried fruit to a $199.99 "Ultimate Holiday Treats Basket" that includes fresh fruit and several other types of gourmet snacks. One unique gift basket is the $79.99 "Chocolate Fondue Gift Set" which includes fresh fruit, marshmallows, chocolate fondue, pretzels, etc.

Shari's Berries guarantees that you will be happy with the product you purchase. If you are not satisfied for any reason, contact customer service to either replace the product or refund your money. The best part is that the customer service department is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you will always be able to get your concerns resolved quickly.

One of the downsides to Shari's Berries is the way the shipping information is shared with you. You don't know about the cost of shipping until you have entered all your payment information. Since fruit baskets tend to be costly to ship, it would be nice to know what this cost will be up front, like several other sites on this list do. Other than that, Shari's Berries is a good option. They have a wide range of baskets at varying prices and the presentation is above average, putting Shari's Berries in the top half of the list.

Cost:

From $35 to $125

FTD offerings include flowers, plants, gift baskets, balloons, chocolates, and fruit baskets. The options for fruit baskets are somewhat limited and most include other non-fruit items in them, like chocolates, nuts or cheese. The pictures on the website show average looking baskets, but we recognize that FTD usually fills their orders from local FTD affiliates, so what the basket may look like once delivered could be different.

The detailed fruit baasket descriptions on FTD's website do explain what is included in each item, but no mention is made of where the fruit comes from or what quality and inspection process they complete to ensure the fruit is fresh and blemish free. But FTD does have a "Love it, or we'll make it right" guarantee, which helps put customers at ease.

Fruit boxes and baskets at FTD range in price from $35 for the "Good" size "Fruit and Cheese Box", compared to $125 for the "Share the Goodness of California Fruit & Gourmet Basket". The range of prices creates options that can appeal to a variety of budgets. Shipping costs can be pricey, and they are not shown until you get to the very end of the order process (after you have entered your shipping information), so until then you do not know how much more the basket will be than the advertised price. They do offer an FTD Gold Membership that you can purchase for $30 that will give you free standard shipping, no service fees and reduced shipping on same day or premium delivery methods for one year. FTD accepts standard payment methods, but also includes PayPal.

The downsides to using FTD would be the concern for quality and the lack of many options when it comes to fruit baskets. There were also several negative reviews on the Better Business Bureau website, but all of them seemed to be closed satisfactorily with a full refund due to FTD's customer service pledge. The Gold Membership is also a nice option to help save on shipping costs if you plan to make multiple purchases in the year. Overall, FTD is average when it comes to fruit baskets, which is why this one ends up in near the middle-to-end of our list.

Some questions that might come to mind include where do I find a reputable company, how can I ensure the fruit is good and not too ripe, what type of fruit do I want to include in the basket? When looking for the best company to purchase your fruit basket, you'll want to consider the following:

  • Supplier of the Fruit. Where is the fruit grown and how does it make its way to your gift basket? Will it change hands several times before it gets to you? Or will it come straight from the orchard? The freshest fruits will come from companies with a direct connection to an Orchard.
  • Selection. How many different choices does the company have? Do they have a range of prices and sizes available so that you can find the perfect one? Is there variety in the contents of each basket to delight the recipient?
  • Cost. How does the cost compare from one site to another? How much fruit am I getting in the basket compared to a similar product on another site? What are the shipping costs? Are there any service fees?
  • Satisfaction Guarantee. Does the site offer a satisfaction guarantee? Under what circumstances will that guarantee be valid? Fresh fruit is a perishable item that is rarely able to be returned. Working with a company that has a satisfaction guarantee will protect you and ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.
