TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award The Fruit Company makes shopping for fruit baskets easy. They have beautiful pictures with great descriptions so that you know exactly what you are going to get when your basket is delivered. There are categories along the left side of the website window so that you can pick the gift category that appeals to you most. Some of these categories include a section on sale items, free-shipping gifts, gift towers and boxes and if you just want chocolate or dessert, you can get that too! You also have the option to shop by occasions, holidays, fruit clubs or business gifts.

Once you select your category, you can also choose to sort the results by price so that you can easily find a gift in your price range. You may need to click on "High to Low" first, and then "Low to High" to ensure the results are actually sorted low to high. It's a little quirk with the site, but one we are willing to overlook since the rest of the site is easy to use.

The Fruit Company has a lot of options for you to choose from. Baskets are priced from $34 to $299 and can include fruit, meat, cheese, nuts, cookies, candy and/or chocolate. For example, the Harvest Classic Fruit Basket is $64 and will include chocolate covered cherries, mint truffle creams, honey wheat crackers, smoked gouda, apples, pears and a kiwi. The pictures on the site clearly indicate if that basket has a shipping deal on it (e.g. free or $5 flat fee) and which baskets contain only organic options. If instead you are looking for a box of fruit, the prices for those start at $29.

Paying for your fruit basket is also easy and they accept all major credit cards. They encrypt your payment information (using SSL) so you can be sure your personal data is safe.

Another great thing about The Fruit Company is that it is family-owned, and they stand behind their product with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, with no hassles. If you (or the recipient of the gift basket) are not satisfied with the purchase, they will either replace it, exchange it, or offer a full refund or credit within 30 days of delivery date. They also have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. You just can't lose!

The Fruit Company is a top pick because of the quality and variety they offer. Their prices are reasonable, with a wide-range of pricing options that make it easy for anyone to find a gift that fits within their budget. Plus, the fruit is coming straight from their family orchards - you can't get any fresher than that! For all these reasons, The Fruit Company gets our vote for the best Fruit Baskets.

Cost:

From $24.99 to $119.99

Harry & David has been delighting customers with their gourmet gifts, including their Royal Riviera pears, since 1934. They are proud to be one of the nation's first in offering their products through mail order delivery so that they could expand their reach and deliver their delicious pears across the U.S. Harry & David has made a name for themselves and continue to charm their customers with fruit baskets, gourmet gifts, chocolates, candies, etc., making it a popular choice for purchasing fruit and gourmet gift baskets.

Harry & David's has several options when it comes to fruits. With prices ranging from $24.99 for a box of their legendary Royal Riviera pears, to $119.99 for their "Flowers and Fruit Gift Basket", you will be sure to find something that will thrill your gift recipient. The boxes and baskets of fruit are artfully crafted and look amazing.

The pears and peaches are harvested fresh from the Harry & David orchards, while the rest of their fruit is picked carefully from trusted supplier to ensure only the best quality reaches their customers. Their website even has a link to the Harvest report so that you can know what fruit is being harvested, what is ripe and ready to ship, allowing you to feel like a part of the magic. In addition to fruit baskets and other fruit offerings, Harry & David also offers chocolates, sweets, gourmet food, wines, flowers and plants.

Website navigation can be a little confusing. There are several categories that allow you to get a filtered list of options, they all just happen to be squished into the space at the top of the page. But we can overlook the crowded categories because the pictures of their products are gorgeous. There is also an option to do a keyword search which should help you find what you are looking for.

Purchasing your gift is easy because they have so many different payment options. Besides the standard credit cards, you can also use PayPal, Chase Pay, and other express checkout options. They also offer a shipping discount membership, called the Celebrations Passport, that provide free standard shipping and discounted express shipping. The membership is $29.99 for one year and can be used on any purchase from one of the Harry & David family of brands, including 1-800-Flowers, Cheryl's Cookies, The Popcorn Factory, among others.

Harry and David stands out by having great quality fruit from their orchards, arranged beautifully in baskets that will impress. They guarantee that they will delight you or they will make it right. With shipping discounts, their Celebrations Passport, and the unique harvest report, Harry &David rank high on our list of the best fruit baskets.

Some questions that might come to mind include where do I find a reputable company, how can I ensure the fruit is good and not too ripe, what type of fruit do I want to include in the basket? When looking for the best company to purchase your fruit basket, you'll want to consider the following:

  • Supplier of the Fruit. Where is the fruit grown and how does it make its way to your gift basket? Will it change hands several times before it gets to you? Or will it come straight from the orchard? The freshest fruits will come from companies with a direct connection to an Orchard.
  • Selection. How many different choices does the company have? Do they have a range of prices and sizes available so that you can find the perfect one? Is there variety in the contents of each basket to delight the recipient?
  • Cost. How does the cost compare from one site to another? How much fruit am I getting in the basket compared to a similar product on another site? What are the shipping costs? Are there any service fees?
  • Satisfaction Guarantee. Does the site offer a satisfaction guarantee? Under what circumstances will that guarantee be valid? Fresh fruit is a perishable item that is rarely able to be returned. Working with a company that has a satisfaction guarantee will protect you and ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.
