Where can you find the best Futons? Futons are a very common piece of furniture in numerous households. They have become so popular because of their functionality, comfort, price and size. If you are looking for a couch/bed combo for any room, a futon could be for you. They are perfect for apartments, lofts, kid's rooms, small spaces, living rooms - the options are endless.

A futon is generally described as a soft mattress on a configurable frame that can be folded in half for a couch or laid out flat for a bed. There are three main parts to a futon. The frame, the mattress and the mattress cover. Futon frames are most commonly made from metal or wood or a combo of both. Futon mattresses are generally made of mostly cotton. Sometimes a layer of foam is added to sustain the form of the mattress.

Lowes is a large home improvement store that operates online and in retail locations all over the country. Their main focus is tools, hardware, appliances, lumber, plumbing, etc. and they have a small department for furniture. Lowes offers less than 50 futon options that are moderately priced, we can tell this is definitely not their cash cow.

Lowes website is very easy to navigate, there aren't a ton of options to sort through. Buyers can sort by best sellers, price and highest rated. You can further refine your futon search by choosing brand, price and rating. If you are interested in several futons you can select, compare and do a side by side comparison of each product. Lowes offers futon frames and futon loveseats. Futon frames do not come with a mattress and they do not sell futon mattresses. They do have over 20 futon collegiate covers to support your favorite college.

Once you have selected a futon, click on the product for more information. The website offers multiple photos of the futon, product description, specifications and customer reviews. Almost all of the futons had no reviews. This page will also tell you if the product ships for free or if its available for free pick-up at your local Lowes.

The futons at Lowes are priced between $168 - $750. We feel their prices aren't as competitive as other futon sellers, especially since none of their futon frames come with a mattress. We still think they are worth a look since a lot of their loveseats look nice. Lowes also offers live chat while you are shopping for futons. Customer support is also available by calling your local Lowes or the 1-800 number they have on their website.

Lowes has a great return policy, they want all customers to love their purchases. Buyers may make returns within 90 days of purchase. You can return in the store or by mail with the prepaid return shipping label. Pretty simple.

Lowes is a wonderful store for home improvement needs. They offer a great return policy and we love the live chat customer support. However, we think their selection and price leads something to be desired.

Shopko is a large retailer selling toys, home goods, electronics, apparel & furniture - they promise to have the quality, brands and value consumers want. Shopko sells over 1,000 products online and in their local stores. In their furniture department they are offering 25 futon products - futon frames, futon mattresses and futon sets. The selection is fairly minimal and the website is basic.

When looking at futons on the Shopko website you have the option to sort by featured, newest, price and name alphabetically. If you are wanting to whittle down your results, you can also search by availability, price, brand and color. With futon quantity only being 25, probably don't need too many filters.

Once you have selected your favorite futon you may do a quick view or click on the product for more information. There are multiple photos on the website of each product so you can see it in different positions. Product details, specifications, shipping & returns info and customer reviews are all listed on the page. Listed on the product page is also the shipping surcharge fees and store pickup availability. All purchases over $99 qualify for free shipping EXCEPT furniture because they incur a shipping surcharge.

Shopko prices range from $107-$525 for futons. Their prices are reasonable and in line with most websites. Several of the futon products have mostly favorable customer reviews, so products seem to be of good quality - leaving consumers happy.

Shopko wants customers to be happy with their purchases and will accept returns within 120 days of purchase. For all items over $150, Shopko would like customers to contact them to arrange returns. You must have your original packing slip and the merchandise has to be in new condition. Shopko offers several ways to reach customer service. Customers can live chat with Shopko customer service, they can send them an email or call their 1-800 number listed on the website.

Many Shopko customers have voiced concerns with expensive shipping fees, bad customer service, occasional issues with online orders and the lack of international shipping options. They do have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, so they've got to be addressing customer service complaints. While we would shop at Shopko for home items, the selection of futons leaves a lot to be desired.

The mattress cover can be made out of several types of materials, such as microfiber, cotton, linen, velvet - the possibilities are almost endless. Futon mattresses are very similar to traditional mattresses but as an added bonus you can turn the mattress into a couch. Instead of purchasing a bed and a couch, a futon provides both of these pieces of furniture in one for an affordable price. Futon covers are interchangeable so you can update the look of your futon as often as you like.

Futons can be purchased in several different sizes, colors, materials. The futon mattress is also available in several different comfort levels - firm, plush, medium.

When looking for a futon there are several factors you should consider:

  • Selection. Does the company offer a wide variety of futons and accessories to choose from?
  • Return Policy. What is the companies return policy if you are not satisfied with your futon purchase?
  • Website ease of use. Is the company website easy to navigate? Are you finding the information and support you are looking for?
