If you love the idea of picking it all, you'll want to choose the Design It Yourself route. You'll select a theme, a container, and then all of the products you want to include. Some of the available themes are Spa & Pamper, That's Italian! and Coffee Lovers. Containers range from woven decorative baskets to collapsible gift boxes, and you can easily see the total "completed gift basket" price next to each one. Finally, you'll select each of the products that will go into your finished gift. The interface is a little outdated-looking, but we loved being able to choose even the smallest details, such as the color of a hand towel or the scent of a candle.

But, maybe you feel overwhelmed by the thought of having to choose every little thing in your gift basket order but still want to send something unique. Design It Yourself' Gift Express option is perfect for you. Just specify your budget, choose a theme, fill out the gift card and select any add-ons you definitely want to include. From there, the team at DIY will build a gift basket to match. You won't know exactly which products are going into your delivery, but maybe that's part of the fun?

And, for that third category of people - the ones who just want to click a button and say "yes, send exactly THAT" - Design It Yourself offers a good selection of traditional, ready-to-go options. One of our favorite pre-selected gift baskets is the BIG Texas Thank You. Because this company is based in Houston, they know what it takes to send a Lone Star State-themed arrangement! Priced at $94.95, here's what's packed inside the southwestern-styled galvanized tub:

They may not match your theme - would you really put a jar of Nutella in a Texas-themed arrangement? - but it's a nice way to pick out something extra, add some balloons or stuffed animals, and so on.

In that same section of the page, you'll find the option to include a personalized message on a satin ribbon? Choose the ribbon color and add a message of up to 45 characters (including spaces) for an extra $7.95.

Design It Yourself Gift Baskets has made some welcome improvements to their customer policies since our last review. Everything you order is now covered by a 100% satisfaction guarantee: you can opt for a full refund, store credit or replacement if you're not happy with the quality or condition of any part of the gift basket. The company asks that you contact them within 3 days of delivery if there's a problem, and they promise to make it right.

Improvements like that are a big part of the reason for this store's positive reputation. They enjoy an "A+" rating and accreditation from the BBB. We would like to see more customer feedback on the DIY site itself, especially reviews on individual gift baskets, so that shoppers have a clearer idea of which products have been a hit with their recipients.

Pricing with Design It Yourself Gift Baskets is comparable to other stores on the market. Helpful hint: make sure to click on the Specials & Best Sellers tab at the top of the page. On our last visit to the site, we found a discount coupon for a savings of 10% sitewide - and that wasn't advertised anywhere else, no pop-up, etc.

Shopping for a gift basket doesn't have to be boring. We recommend Design It Yourself for its wide selection of add-ons, the ability to create a truly unique gift, and their improved commitment to customer satisfaction.

The Best Gift Baskets is one of the newer gift basket companies on the market. You'll find the typical assortment of gift-giving occasions like baby showers and birthdays, without too many unique options that really jump out at you. Even the holiday-themed gift baskets weren't really specific to that celebration: the Halloween choices had candy but nothing with pumpkins, skeletons or decorations, the New Year's baskets primarily focused on alcohol, and so on.

We found the pricing on The Best Gift Baskets to be relatively high. For example, the Ghirardelli Galore Chocolate Gift Basket was priced at $59.99 (which doesn't include delivery). Considering that the package contains 2 bags of Ghirardelli squares, 2 candy bars, and 2 pouches of hot chocolate, you do the math and decide if that sounds like a good deal. We also didn't see any possibilities for adding extra items like candy or stuffed animals, no personalization options for the gift packaging, and no reviews from previous customers.

Shipping is more expensive with The Best Gift Baskets than some of the retailers in our review. Expect to pay $14.95 for ground shipping, no matter what kind of gift basket you order. Expedited options are available, starting at $24.95 for 3 business day delivery, $39.95 for next business day, and $59.95 for Saturday delivery.

What kind of a reputation does The Best Gift Baskets have? Great question. At the bottom of the site, it clearly says "no rating available" when looking at the Google score. There's also no listing for this company on the Better Business Bureau database - and, strangely, when we called the customer service number on the company's "Contact Us" page, it was a personal phone number! (We wondered if it was the "Bill" listed in the email contact info. The site does say that's his personal email. That's awkward!)

This could be the best gift basket company to hit the market - but with such a limited history, it's hard to know if it will really deliver. Will they honor their 100% satisfaction guarantee? Will you get attentive, courteous customer service if there's a problem? There's no way of knowing until this store builds up a history of solid customer interactions and reviews.

But, as you'll quickly notice as you begin to shop for a gift basket, some companies consistently deliver high-quality selections while others provide just the bare minimum and don't put much thought or effort into the presentation or the included items.
