HAYNEEDLE

Based in Omaha, Nebraska, Hayneedle has been delivering gift baskets and more since 2002. Whether you're looking for a sympathy gift or a fun board game collection-in-a-box, Hayneedle probably has it at the best price.

Finding the perfect gift basket is easy using the Hayneedle website. Although you can opt to Shop All and sift through the more than 700 choices available, you'll probably appreciate the filter options on the left-hand side of the page. These options include the following:

  • Seasons and Holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Easter, Father's and Mother's Day, Fourth of July, St. Patrick's Day, and Valentine's Day
  • Occasion: New Baby, Get Well, Sympathy, Birthday, Anniversary, Just Because, Congratulations, House Warming, Thank You, and Wedding
  • Recipient: Corporate, Women, Men, Kids, Baby Boy, Baby Girl, and Baby Surprise
  • Type: Spa, Chocolate, Wine, Assortment, Fruit, Meat and Cheese, Snack/Candy, Bakery/Dessert, and 14 other categories
  • Brand: More than a dozen to choose from, including well-known names like Godiva, Starbucks, and Ghirardelli
  • Customer Reviews
  • Price: more than 650 baskets are available for less than $100

The only area that Hayneedle doesn't appear to cover is floral gift baskets.

Pricing on gift baskets at Hayneedle is very competitive with other retailers. If you happen to find a lower price on your gift basket somewhere else online, you can contact Hayneedle and request a price match. Shipping is free on all orders over $49, making it even more affordable to send a gift basket.

And, Hayneedle was the only Gift Basket retailer in our review that has a Rewards program: for every order placed using a credit card, you earn 3% back on future purchases. Rewards points can also be earned by reviewing products you've bought, and you'll get even more points for adding an image or a video to those reviews. These rewards apply to all purchases, not just gift baskets.

What if you're not satisfied with your order? Hayneedle has a general 30-day return policy, but the site is unclear as to how that would apply to gift baskets, where many of the items are perishable and/or to be eaten. Hayneedle does have a "Satisfaction Guarantee", but they don't provide any specifics as to how they fulfill that promise.

That's a question worth asking, given the number of complaints we found regarding Hayneedle's customer service department. Although we didn't find any negative reviews specifically regarding gift baskets, we did find more than a few customers who were not satisfied with their orders; reasons included incorrect items shipped, orders or parts of orders missing or damaged during shipping, and frustrations with getting refunds properly credited. On the other hand, Hayneedle has a perfect A+ grade as an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau, and they do seem to be very responsive to any complaints received. We also appreciate that Hayneedle's customer service department is all in-house, making it easier to get a solution to any problem that arises.

Overall, Hayneedle is a solid choice for gift baskets: their selection, pricing, and rewards program make it one of the most affordable options out there. Just be aware that you may need to be proactive if you'd like a price match or if you have a problem to resolve.

Gift Baskets

To help you find the Best Gift Baskets, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth Hayneedle Review.

Whether the occasion is a new baby, a hospital stay, Christmas, Mother's Day, or one of countless other events, finding the right gift can be a challenge. The "same old, same old" gift cards are just that - old and often overused. However - Gift Baskets are a fresh idea that can add surprise and thoughtfulness to your gift giving efforts.

The choices of gift baskets can be overwhelming. You can gift a basket of cheese and wine, bath products, newborn toys, chocolate, fruit, and more. Themed gift baskets also exist for just about anything you can think of: golf, newborns, sports fans, wedding, women, men, teens, Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and so on.

However, not all gift basket companies are the same. While an abundance of internet gift basket companies exist today, only a handful go above and beyond to provide the best quality product at the best price on time and as expected.

Before shopping for gift baskets online you should consider several factors first:

  • Cost.  Compared to other gift baskets, how to the prices at one store compare to others based on the level of quality they provide?
  • Variety.  Which gift basket companies provide the best variety and selection to meet all your gift giving needs?
  • Return Policy.  If the gift basket shows up late, is incorrect, or simply not what you thought you would be getting for your money, will the company work with you and is a refund an option?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best gift baskets available today. We hope this information helps you find the right gift basket to meet your needs!

Why Are Gift Baskets So Popular?

The giving of gift baskets can be traced to ancient Greece. In 19th-century England, gift hampers were routinely delivered by hand to denizens of the country by visitors from London. These English offerings were meant to denote a degree of sophistication on the part of the giver, offering as they did products and wares country dwellers were hard pressed to find. They might even have included novelties and delicacies from the reaches of the British Empire.

Today, gift baskets are enjoying a healthy resurgence stateside. Why are gift baskets so popular? Their variety, versatility, and visual appeal render them a welcome offering to friends, family and acquaintances on most any occasion.

Variety and Number
Since a gift offering is nearly always appreciated, as an offering of multiple gifts -- neatly packaged in a single container - it is a can't-lose proposition. Offering more than one gift at a time can result in a sharing of the gift with friends of the recipient -- a move that cannot fail to boost your reputation. This strategy can be very effective with gifts of food, flowers, and even non-food themed gifts. A small business owner's sharing an office gift basket is de rigueur, almost cliche.

But think of how the baby goods gift basket you offer to a friend might be shared with other new moms. A themed gift basket to a knitting or crafting hobbyist, for example, might be shared with an entire crafting circle. Similarly, a bowling-themed basket might end up benefiting an entire league team. Of course, the more thought you put into the content of the basket, the more suitable the design and conception, the better.

Adaptability
In an age where business and personal friendships are formed via various types of media -- where your best friend forever might be an Internet acquaintance you have never met -- gift baskets make an ideal choice. For one thing, they can be as personal or as impersonal as you like. For a new business client, a basket of wines that are generally judged to be of good quality is perfectly suitable. For your spouse or significant other, a basket filled with items that suit her tastes - right down to brand, flavor and color -- strikes just the right note of intimacy, indicating a high degree of interest and attachment on your part. Indeed, gift baskets come in such variety and are formulated with such creativity that they can make ideal gifts for everyone from newborns to centegenarians, from new neighbors to the dearest of friends.

Visual Appeal
Even the English gift hampers of yore were generally decorative standouts. Gift basket packaging has only gained in visual elegance since then. Many purveyors continue to offer basket-like containers adorned with colorful shrink wrap. But more originally designed offerings are truly on the rise. For example, some specialty retailers package gifts in reusable containers -- perfectly in line with the eco-consciousness of the moment. Other companies have been known to employ containers of stoneware or earthenware for a rustic feel. Glassware and clear polycarbonate material offer the recipient an easy view of what's inside. Decorative materials may include anything from burlap and jute to satin, silk, and crystal.

Gift baskets are projected to grow in popularity through the next decade. Whether you are shopping for intimate friend or brand new acquaintance, there's sure to be a selection that is perfectly appropriate.
