Government Auctions has a very easy-to-navigate website that provides a comprehensive listing of current government auctions across the country. The website comes highly endorsed by a number of national sources, such as CNBC, Business Week, Good Housekeeping and Barron's magazines.

The website has easy to identify tabs across the top of the home page that lists the categories of auctions: Government Auctions, Items, Autos and Foreclosures. When you click on each tab, you are provided with a map of the United States in which you can simply click on a state and then a list of the current auctions is provided. The best feature of this web site is that you can actually see these active auctions and the actual items being auctioned without becoming a member. No other web site offered this feature. All of the others reviewed here made you sign up and pay their fee before getting this far. With Government Auctions, you are not asked to enroll until you actually click on a particular item to bid on.

The listings provided were large and very comprehensive and the government auction and foreclosure data is constantly updated. Their customer service is very good and overall this was one of the best sites reviewed. The site also provides tutorials and other learning resources for those unfamiliar and new to the government auction process. The site contains links to blogs that provide up-to-date information and news about auctions, even listing some unique items at great prices.

You're provided with a free 3-day, money-back trial period after you sign up for Government Auctions. All major credit cards and PayPal are accepted for payment.

While Government Auctions is more expensive than some of the other companies reviewed, we liked the customer focused policies and option to review property before buying a membership.

Government Liquidations is an online auction site but it is much different from the other sites in our review. Rather then sell confiscated or repossessed items from government entities, Government Liquidation sells only military surplus items. In fact, the array and variety of what is available is mind boggling.

The advanced search feature allows you to browse through thousands of available bid items by category of the item, location and keywords. This makes it much easier to find specific items across the U.S. or by more narrowly defined geographic areas. Most of the locations of the available product are at U.S. military installations and air force bases. Additionally, there are easy to find comprehensive detailed listings of past bid results. The web site is very attractive and easy to maneuver. Again, the variety of items range is large and range from live horses from the cavalry, scrap metal, pizza ovens and even furniture from the pentagon. It is so vast, the best way to describe it is to just get on the site and explore.

Perhaps, the best feature of this site is that there is no cost to join or no monthly or annual membership fee. They make their money off the sales from their web site. You have immediate access to the full site and all of its features.

So, while Government Liquidation offers a different type of product then most of the other sites, its array of available auctions items and their uniqueness make it well worth the stop.
