TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Auction Resource is a highly regarded source of government seized and controlled property ranging from automobiles, real estate, and a wide variety of personal property items. These can all be purchased through a government auction if you know how to find them.

The website contains an excellent tutorial that guides those new to government auctions through the ins and outs of the property auction process. Members are also offered Free Bonuses upon signing up, which include ebooks that provide valuable information and guides in the effective use of government auctions in order to find the best deals possible.

The Auction Resource customer support line was among the best of the sites we reviewed. Like many of their competitors, you're provided only limited access to any information until you become a member. However, with their 60-day, risk-free guarantee, you really have little to lose to sign up and explore.

Unlike other government auction websites that charge a high monthly fee, Auction Resource only has a single affordable annual charge. Payment can be made via all of the major credit cards as well as through PayPal. Once you sign up you have instant access to the entire site and all of the benefits that entails.

Auction Resource scores high marks for their customer friendly website, information, no-risk guarantee, and affordable pricing. They earn our highest rating.

Government Auctions has a very easy-to-navigate website that provides a comprehensive listing of current government auctions across the country. The website comes highly endorsed by a number of national sources, such as CNBC, Business Week, Good Housekeeping and Barron's magazines.

The website has easy to identify tabs across the top of the home page that lists the categories of auctions: Government Auctions, Items, Autos and Foreclosures. When you click on each tab, you are provided with a map of the United States in which you can simply click on a state and then a list of the current auctions is provided. The best feature of this web site is that you can actually see these active auctions and the actual items being auctioned without becoming a member. No other web site offered this feature. All of the others reviewed here made you sign up and pay their fee before getting this far. With Government Auctions, you are not asked to enroll until you actually click on a particular item to bid on.

The listings provided were large and very comprehensive and the government auction and foreclosure data is constantly updated. Their customer service is very good and overall this was one of the best sites reviewed. The site also provides tutorials and other learning resources for those unfamiliar and new to the government auction process. The site contains links to blogs that provide up-to-date information and news about auctions, even listing some unique items at great prices.

You're provided with a free 3-day, money-back trial period after you sign up for Government Auctions. All major credit cards and PayPal are accepted for payment.

While Government Auctions is more expensive than some of the other companies reviewed, we liked the customer focused policies and option to review property before buying a membership.

GOVERNMENT LIQUIDATION

Government Liquidations is an online auction site but it is much different from the other sites in our review. Rather then sell confiscated or repossessed items from government entities, Government Liquidation sells only military surplus items. In fact, the array and variety of what is available is mind boggling.

The advanced search feature allows you to browse through thousands of available bid items by category of the item, location and keywords. This makes it much easier to find specific items across the U.S. or by more narrowly defined geographic areas. Most of the locations of the available product are at U.S. military installations and air force bases. Additionally, there are easy to find comprehensive detailed listings of past bid results. The web site is very attractive and easy to maneuver. Again, the variety of items range is large and range from live horses from the cavalry, scrap metal, pizza ovens and even furniture from the pentagon. It is so vast, the best way to describe it is to just get on the site and explore.

Perhaps, the best feature of this site is that there is no cost to join or no monthly or annual membership fee. They make their money off the sales from their web site. You have immediate access to the full site and all of its features.

So, while Government Liquidation offers a different type of product then most of the other sites, its array of available auctions items and their uniqueness make it well worth the stop.

POLICE AUCTIONS

Cost:

$7.95 per month

Police Auctions gives the impression by name and appearance that it lists auctions of police confiscated items and those from other government agencies. It does not. It is an auction site but what is auctioned comes from a variety of sources. While the web site does offer a variety of categories of inventory items, it is by far most focused on jewelry.

There is no shortage of other independent consumer reviews of Police Auctions and nearly all are very poor. There are many complaints of false advertising and misleading values of merchandise. There are claims that the stated value of some of the jewelry is sometimes as much as 80 percent higher than the actual value. Of course, buyers only discover this after they win a bid, make the purchase, receive the item and then have it professionally appraised.

Their return policy has also caused consternation with consumers with problems with refunds and their insistence that the item be insured during the return shipping for the stated value when it is actually worth much less.

One good thing, the site is inexpensive. But that's no consolation if it comes with so many problems.

Since bidding on any of these sites involves some risk, in that you are buying used items without seeing them, it is much better to stay away from a site like this that comes with so many customer complaints.

Listings such as these offer shoppers access to the best deals on goods and propriety across the nation.

Before searching online for the best government auction website, save yourself time and frustration and consider the following:

  • Cost. What does the website charge for access to thousands of government auction listings each week?
  • Return Policy. If you aren't satisfied with the directory of government auctions, can you request a refund?
  • Focus. Does the website focus on any particular type of government auction? Or will it provide access to all types of goods, propriety, military surplus and more?
