The Silk'n Flash & Go Jewel has been on the market for years as a hair removal device that works with Home Pulsed Light (HPL) technology. This approach targets the pigment in hair shafts to disable future hair growth while still being gentle to the skin.

You'll need to start with clean, shaved, dry skin before using the Jewel. The device is then held firmly on the desired area of the skin, gliding to the next target area. It emits a continuous pulse of energy, so there's no button to press.

Because the hair growth cycle can take 18-24 months, you should expect to do six to eight times for the best results. The first four times should be done two weeks apart, and applications five through seven should be done every four weeks. By the time you get to the eighth time, your hair removal process should just be done as needed for maintenance.

Silk'n backs the Flash & Go Jewel with a 2-year warranty and a 60-day money-back guarantee. The company has a good reputation, with an "A+" and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau.

Most users who follow the instructions for using the Flash & Go Jewel are happy with the results. We found lots of happy customers who said that their unwanted hair now grows in much lighter and finer, if at all.

Ultimately, however, the Jewel is less effective than its sister Silk'n product, the Infinity. Although the Jewel does have adjustable energy levels, it still isn't effective on darker skin tones and hair colors. The manufacturer states explicitly, "Individuals with blonde, gray, or white hair lack pigment in their hair and are not good candidates." The Jewel also doesn't use galvanic energy to open the pores, so thick hairs can be harder to remove. Of course, the more advanced Infinity hair removal device also comes with a higher price tag.

The Silk'n Flash & Go Jewel is a reliable, proven device for hair removal and because of the company's refund/return policy, it's almost risk-free to give it a try. But, with more advanced products on the market, you'll have to decide if the Jewel is worth the investment.

Revitol is a hair removal cream that both dissolves existing unwanted hair while also reducing the hair shaft at the follicle growth site. For many users, this means that the hair that grows back becomes thinner and finer over the course of 1-4 months, with many people reporting that the hair stops growing altogether with ongoing applications of the product.

The active ingredient in Revitol is Calcium Thioglycolate, the most commonly-used ingredient in chemical depilatories. Additional ingredients include green tea and hydrolyzed milk protein, so we encourage you to read the ingredients carefully if you have any allergies or known sensitivities.

Revitol is applied directly to the skin and must be left on for 12-15 minutes before being wiped off with a towel and rinsed off. The manufacturer recommends that you test sensitive areas such as the face, underarms, and neck minute by minute, to make sure you're not having a bad reaction.

Buying multiple tubes of Revitol can save you money. While a 1-month supply costs $39.95, their buy-2-get-1 offer brings the per-product cost down to $26.63 each. Alternately, you can buy 3 and get 2 free, with a cost of just $23.97 per tube. It also saves you the $6.95 in shipping you'll pay if you only order one tube at a time.

At first, we were impressed with Revitol's 90-day money-back guarantee - until we read the fine print that says it's only valid for returns on products that are unopened/unused. Yes, you understood that correctly: you could spend almost $40 on a product that may not work for you and be completely out of luck. Compared with the more generous return policies offered by other hair removal product retailers, this puts Revitol in last place.

Plus, the toll-free number given on the Revitol site seems to be the customer service line for a long list of other non-related products. Digging a little deeper, we found that those products tend to have bad reviews and their websites come up with very low ratings with the BBB. This definitely doesn't inspire much confidence that Revitol will stand by their hair removal cream.

With so many hair removal products on the market that are backed by reputable companies and that come with much more reassuring refund policies, it's hard to see why anyone would choose Revitol. We strongly suggest that you buy one of the higher-ranked hair removal products in our review.

Continued from above

In general, there are three main approaches to hair removal.

Shaving. The advantages to shaving are that razors are inexpensive and easy to find, shaving usually takes less time than other means of removing hair, and no electricity is needed. Disadvantages are that hair grows back quickly (think "5 o'clock shadow"). Cuts can be painful and leave scars. Razor blades dull after several uses and have to be replaced.

Chemical Depilation. Advantages to chemical depilation include smoother skin than shaving, no risk of cuts, affordable, hair takes longer to grow back. Disadvantages include the chemicals used to dissolve the hair can cause an allergic reaction or irritation. Chemical depilatories often have an unpleasant smell and often need to be left on the skin for up to 10 minutes. Takes longer than ordinary shaving.

Epilation. This process removes the entire hair, including the part below the surface of the skin). Advantages of epilation include smooth skin that lasts for much longer than shaving or chemical depilation and may even be permanent. It also may be painless, depending on the method used. Disadvantages are that it can be painful if plucking or threading. If using a device, electricity or batteries are needed. It can also be much more expensive and time-consuming than other methods.

Given that there are many products on the market that promise to deliver smooth, hair-free skin, how can you decide which one to try first? Here are some factors to consider as you choose the hair removal strategy that's right for you:

  • Effectiveness. Does it actually work? Check out what other customers have said about their experience: how much hair is removed with each use and how long it takes to grow back.
  • Cost. It's worth spending a little extra if it means you only have to take care of unwanted hair once in a while, or if using an epilatory device eliminates any skin irritation you experience with shaving or chemical hair removal methods. Be sure to determine if there are any future expenses, like battery replacement or new applicator heads.
  • Refund Policy. What happens if the product doesn't get rid of hair like you were hoping, or you have a bad reaction? Can you get your money back?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best hair removal products available today. We hope this information helps you get rid of your unwanted hair, leaving your skin smooth and hair-free for a long time!
