EXTREME HALLOWEEN NETWORK

Extreme Halloween Network is a family-owned business that has been servicing customers online for over 10 years. That kind of market longevity is to be applauded.

Unfortunately, the Extreme Halloween Network website looks like it was created 10 years ago. In a Halloween-theme, they make widespread use of blacks, yellows, and reds. These color combinations make the site difficult to read and find what you're looking for. From an organization standpoint, the site looks like a hodgepodge of offerings. The costumes are organized by categories, much like the other sites in our review. However, there are categories listed down the left side, and other categories featured in the middle of the page, but they aren't the same ones. So where do you look to find the costume that you want? You have to hunt through the various categories, fighting the bright colors, until you find what you're after. They do provide a search bar, but that is halfway down the website.

If you can navigate to the categories, you'll find an ample selection. Costumes are grouped by Adult, Child, Teen, Baby, and Plus sizes. Within these categories they have a variety of subcategories; for example under Adult they have 19 groupings including funny, couples, and sexy. They also have an impressive assortment of costume accessory categories; there are several categories of wigs and 26 groupings of masks.

Costume prices were consistently among the lowest we found in our review; it's obvious that Extreme Halloween Network cares about bringing quality merchandise to their customers at affordable prices. They also offer same-day shipping for orders received before 2pm est.

Extreme Halloween Network accepts returns on most items if they are made within 5 days of delivery. Returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee. Returns are not accepted for orders placed between October 15th and November 1st.

Extreme Halloween Network provides 15 answers to frequently asked questions under their Customer Service area. Many of these answers contain links to other sections of their website with more detailed information. They also supply a toll-free number if you can't find the answers you're looking for.

One of the unique features of Extreme Halloween Network is their links to other costume websites. If you're looking for Easter Bunny costumes, western wear, wigs, luau costumes, Mardi Gras costumes, Santa suits, or costumes for cats and dogs, you can find links to them here.

If you can withstand the frustrating colors, confusing organization, and general lack of professionalism, Extreme Halloween Network has a good selection of costumes and low prices. Their website is need of an overhaul to make it more user-friendly.

COSTUMES 4 LESS

Costumes4Less has an impressive selection of Halloween costumes, along with a selection of party supplies, wedding supplies, shoes, and - oddly enough - lingerie. At the time of our review, they carried more than 9,000 costume items ranging from infant to adult, across a wide variety of brands and themes. Prices start at just over $8 and go all the way up to nearly $1,500.

One of the easiest ways to find what you're looking for is to use Costume4Less' Costume Finder, located on their main Halloween Costume page. You can choose to filter their inventory by age range, gender, price, category, or theme. There's also a handy scrolling section beneath the Costume Finder that shows popular costume themes; we did think that some of them were a little outdated (e.g. Powerpuff Girls and Alice Through the Looking Glass).

We thought it was amusing to see a "Wheel of Fortune" pop-up when we visited the site: spin the wheel to get a discount ranging from 1% to 5% on your purchase. Be aware that you'll have to enter your email after you spin, and that the coupon is only valid for 24 hours. (For what it's worth, we spun and got a 5% discount.) You'll want that discount - Costumes4Less' prices were almost always higher than what we found on competitor websites.

Shipping is free on orders of $65 and higher, with a delivery timeframe of up to 8 business days. Expect to pay $7.95 in shipping costs for the first item, $4.95 for the second item, and $3.95 for the third item if your order is less than $65.

One confusing aspect of Costumes4Less' shipping policies is that you have to pay attention to which warehouse your items would be shipped from. When you enter your zip code on the Shipping information section (under the customer service link at the top of the page), you get a table with nearly two dozen warehouses and your expected delivery dates. If you're ordering multiple costume items, it's up to you to figure out if you'll get your items when you need them if they're coming from different locations. That's a layer of hassle that many customers won't like.

Given that the site proudly announces that Costumes4Less has been "online since 2003", we were surprised to see that they have no grade or accreditation with the Better Business Bureau. As we began to read what customers had to say about their experience with this retailer, it became apparent that people are generally not so thrilled with Costumes4Less. The words they most often use are "cheap", "poor quality", and "rip-off" - definitely not what you want to hear when deciding where to get your Halloween costume.

Many customers specifically disliked Costumes4Less' approach to returns: expect a 5% restocking fee and no refund on any shipping charges. If you want an exchange, however, you can do so for free - but with so many shoppers saying that the costumes or accessories they received were poorly made, fell apart when they got them, or were just "off" in general, this exchange policy doesn't seem like it'll do you much good.

For all of these reasons, Costumes4Less failed to impress with respect to Halloween costume shopping. We suggest you take a look at a more reputable retailer for your purchase.
