Where can you get the best health insurance? Healthcare costs are on the rise and constantly changing. There are few things in life as important as your health, and when professional care is needed, you want to ensure you're getting the best treatment that won't break the bank. There are also few things as confusing as the ins and outs of insurance and medical treatment costs. Being informed about the differences in healthcare coverage options will help you avoid surprise bills after seeing a provider.

It could take a frustrating amount of time to call around to different insurance companies to compare rates and coverage. Unfortunately, some providers are very hard to reach by phone and make you jump through hoops to have your questions answered. Transparency and accessibility from your health insurance company is important so you know what you are paying for. Thankfully there are many online sources to help you compare these companies quickly.

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award HealthMarkets is the best one-stop-shop for insurance plans that we have found. As you narrow down the best health insurance plan for you and your family, insurance agents are standing by 24/7 to answer any questions you may have. You can either talk to a licensed representative online or find one of their 3,000 local agents to help you through the process. In addition to help from agents, there are a plethora of resources on the HealthMarkets website, like news articles on healthcare reform and articles diving into topics such as life insurance, Medicare, health insurance, wellness, and more.

When searching for a health insurance plan, HealthMarkets has options for individual and family plans, Medicare plans, and small business plans. The website is professional and user-friendly. It's easy to get a free quote within minutes. You will be asked to input your zip code, age, spouse's age (optional), number of children, and your annual household income. You are then taken to a page asking for your first and last name, phone number, and email address. You must acknowledge that you are authorizing HealthMarkets to send pre-recorded telemarketing calls, emails, and text messages with this information. However, they do provide you with a phone number to contact if you would like to be put on a do-not-call list.

Once you submit your information, you gain immediate access for free to a list of health insurance quotes to compare. These can be filtered by company, coverage level, plan type, per individual deductible, maximum out-of-pocket, and copay. Each company that meets your search criteria displays the coverage level, deductible, maximum out-of-pocket, copay, and your monthly cost. You can view the plan details for even more detailed information on any package that interests you. There is a detailed summary of benefits that can be reviewed, as well as the option to check if specific doctors are in-network and look at a list of covered drugs. You can then select the health insurance plan you want and apply directly from the HealthMarkets website. We were impressed by how much information was provided to help customers make informed decisions about which health insurance company they want to use.

Besides providing thorough, fast, and easy health insurance coverage comparisons, HealthMarkets' customers have positive things to say about their experience with them. They have helped millions of individuals find a health insurance plan and provide a great customer service experience. The Better Business Bureau gives HealthMarkets an A+ rating. Overall, we are very impressed with the service provided by HealthMarkets and suggest them as our number one option when searching for health insurance coverage.

QUOTE WHIZ

On the Quote Whiz health insurance page, there is very little to see or do. Your main option is to fill out a health profile that asks a series of questions needed to match you with quotes. You are asked to provide your birthday, height, weight, tobacco use, insurance situation, if you've been denied coverage, if you are an expectant parent, whether you are on social security or disability, and if you have any pre-existing conditions.

To finalize the health profile, you must provide your full name, address, email, and phone number. A check box with fine print underneath your personal information lets you know you are authorizing Quote Whiz to send telemarketing calls and text messages to you. If you want to receive quotes without providing consent, your only option is to call a phone number provided and speak with a representative.

After submitting your personal information, you are directed to a site that should provide insurance quotes for you to review. Instead of viewing insurance quotes, we received a message saying they could not accept our data at this time. We then could scroll through a list of other companies to contact who may be able to help provide us quotes. Some of these sites included Trumpcare and Obamacare, which weren't very useful to us.

Outside of the health profile, there are two sections of links that provide you with more information. One is a "Health Insurance Articles" link with 15 articles ranging from a healthcare reform topic to news about health insurance for smokers. The other link is "Health Insurance FAQ" with 9 articles about things like why you need health insurance, what determines a premium, the differences between group and individual insurance, and more. Each article is quite short, usually about a paragraph or two. Some links we clicked on even resulted in no information at all, but rather just allowed you to click on a "Find the Best Rates Now" button.

Overall, we were disappointed with the Quote Whiz site because it could not deliver the service it was built for. They request information on your part, but provide hardly anything in return. We suggest using one of our higher-rated services for health insurance quote comparisons and not wasting your time here.

Understanding the differences between health insurance coverage options is also useful for when your needs change. If you have a change in employment, location, or overall physical health, you may end up needing a different kind of insurance. Being able to compare quotes easily online will save you a lot of work and give you peace of mind about making this big change.

Before diving into the world of health insurance selection services, we suggest you take the following things into consideration:

  • Convenience. Do you have to make a phone call to an agent every time you have a question? Ideally you are able to obtain insurance quotes online and skip the hassle of making phone calls all day.
  • Accessibility. When you need to speak to an agent, you want to get a human on the phone without having to talk to a series of robots first. If you have an urgent question, it will also be important for you to be able to speak to someone without waiting on hold forever.
  • Transparency. Do you know exactly what providers are covered through each health insurance company? Do you know how much they will pay vs. how much you will pay? What happens after you meet your deductible? Make sure you are able to find out all the little details about a health insurance company so that you aren't feeling lost or overwhelmed about your treatment options.
