HOCKEY MONKEY

Hockey Monkey is part of a larger company, Monkey Sports, which operates different web sites selling online sports equipment. Besides hockey, they have sites selling both lacrosse and baseball equipment. They also operate several big box retail stores in California, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Hockey Monkey sells by far the largest variety of hockey equipment and accessories of the sites we reviewed. They have a very large selection of hockey sticks, hockey skates, hockey gloves, hockey helmets, and every other type of hockey equipment and hockey clothing needed in the sport of hockey. You would be hard-pressed to think of something you would need relating to hockey and not find it for sale on their website.

The Hockey Monkey website is very easy to use, with clear navigational points. It's colorful and pleasing to the eye. Their prices on hockey equipment were the lowest of the sites reviewed. They run a variety of sales specials, including free shipping on some sale items and a lot of nice clearance items. Hockey Monkey gets very high marks for price, selection and customer service.

Hockey Monkey offers a complete satisfaction guarantee return policy. If for any reason you're not completely satisfied with the hockey equipment you've purchased, you can return it for a full refund anytime within 150 days of that purchase. This is a very generous, customer-friendly policy that we wish other online retailers would adopt.

All-in-all, Hockey Monkey stands head and shoulders above the rest. With their huge selection of hockey equipment, generous return policy, and helpful customer service, Hockey Monkey sets the standard among hockey stores. They earn our highest rating.

GOALIE MONKEY

Goalie Monkey is more or less a sister web site to Hockey Monkey, which has also been reviewed here. They are part of the Sports Monkey Company based in Corona, California which operates several online websites that sell equipment, clothing, gear and accessories for specific sports, including baseball and lacrosse.

Goalie Monkey is similar in nearly every way to Hockey Monkey except they specialize in the position of goaltender. Hockey goalies, unlike other sports with goaltenders, require their own special type of equipment. The fact that Monkey Sports created and has dedicated an entire web site to one position is indicative of the specialized nature of this position.

The web site is very attractive, user-friendly and simple to navigate. Their selection is very large and their prices are an average of 10-15 percent lower then the other sites reviewed. They offer sales specials and have a tab listing many types of merchandise being sold at clearance prices.

The customer service staff at Goalie Monkey is also excellent. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. While this is always important in retail sales, it is especially so for hockey goalies because of the specialized nature of the position and the equipment used which usually must fit the player in a specific way. Research of other consumer reviews also gives extremely high marks to Goalie Monkey in all criteria.

Goalie Monkey offers a full satisfaction guaranteed return policy. A full refund, minus a 10 percent restocking fee, is given if the item is returned with 150 days of purchase. If you return the item within 14 days, the restocking fee is waived.

Goalie Monkey earns a high ranking for the selection and price of hockey goalie equipment. In summary, if you need anything related to the goalie position, make the Goalie Monkey, your first stop.

HOCKEY SHOT

Hockey Shot, based in St. Louis, Missouri, exclusively sells a massive variety of training, practice aids and equipment for the sport of hockey. They do not sell any regular hockey equipment such as sticks, gloves, pads and helmets as do the other sites reviewed here. So if you are looking for this type of equipment you need to look elsewhere. However, if you are in the market for training aids, this is your destination.

This site is especially useful for coaches of all age groups and skill levels. In fact, it is amazing the amount and variety of training aids they sell. Just a cursory browse through the site is very eye opening. The site is neatly organized with a nice vertical menu down the left-hand side of the page. It is organized under skill set headings such as shooting, passing, stick handling, skating, training, coaching and several others. Under those headings are specific skill and product headings. They also sell video training DVD's and books.

Their return policy is somewhat restrictive but reasonable. All items must be returned with 30 days of the original shipping date and you are assessed a 15 percent of the purchase price restocking fee. (Most other sites that charge a restocking fee only charge 10 percent). Additionally, you have to call their customer service department to obtain an RMA number and download a PDF document from their website and complete it to send along with the return.

All in all, if you are a coach or player and you are seeking any type of training equipment to improve your own or your team's skills in any area of the game, Hockey Shot is the place to shop.

ONLINE SPORTS

Online Sports, as the name implies, sells a large variety of sporting goods and memorabilia via an online web site for many different sports. Hockey can be found along the left-side menu along with 41 other sports and topics on the home page under the heading, "Ice/Roller Hockey." Once on the hockey page you will find 19 blue hyperlinks for different products.

The overall appearance of the website is very plain and frankly not attractive. It takes several mouse clicks to find what you are looking for and once you do, the pictures of the product, whether a hockey stick, gloves, helmet or other equipment, is small and hard to see. They do offer a nice variety and selection of products and their prices are somewhat comparable to the other sites reviewed, although in some common products they trended somewhat higher. However, it is just too hard to move around their website.

The return policy at Online Sports is fairly flexible. They offer a full refund if the merchandise is returned with 90 days of the purchase date. They also offer free shipping on many items. Additionally, they have a "Best Deal Guarantee" where if you find a better price on an identical in-stock item from a competitor they promise to meet or beat that price.

Online Sports did win our approval as a result of the difficulty in using their website, especially the poor photos and graphics. We recommend you save yourself frustration and shop from a higher ranked company.

Hockey Equipment

Good quality hockey skates, hockey sticks, hockey helmets, and hockey pads are the most common hockey equipment needs of most hockey players. Finding good hockey equipment at a fair price, however, can be a challenge.

Locally you can usually find only a very limited selection of hockey equipment. Specialty hockey stores carry a small mount of brand selection, and can have huge price tags to finance the cost of their hockey storefront.

Informed hockey players have found that online hockey equipment stores provide a huge selection of quality hockey equipment, at competitive prices, across a large selection of hockey brands. This gives you the opportunity to get exactly what you need, at the best price available.

You can do this all while shopping from the comfort of your home, without having to drive to different hockey stores searching for the right hockey equipment.

Hockey equipment stores are not all alike. Before making your next hockey equipment purchase, you should consider the following:

  • Selection. Does the hockey company provide a wide range of hockey brands in the hockey equipment you're looking for?
  • Cost. How do the prices compare to other hockey stores? Where can you get the best value for your money?
  • Return Policy. If you're not satisfied with the hockey equipment once it arrives, can you receive your money back?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best hockey equipment stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the best hockey equipment to meet your needs!
