Adventures in Homebrewing

Visit Site

Adventures in Homebrewing is a veteran & family owned company that originated in Michigan in 1999, and has been providing home beer brewers with all their brewing needs ever since. What began as a passion project for two brothers in a basement, has expanded to the "Costco" of home brewing companies. They are reputable, and have been noted for excellent customer service during the many years of their operation.

13 different brew kits

With Adventures in Homebrewing, customers can choose between 13 different brew kits, each increasing in cost and difficulty level depending on the experience of the brewer. It is worth noting that all brew kits make between 5-6 gallons of beer - even the beginning homebrew kit. Unless you are feeling particularly daring, we recommend Adventures in Home Brewing for brewers who might already have some experience in getting down with the brew, and feel confident and capable to take on more.

Best Home Brew Beer Supplies

What can you expect?

Each brewing kit contains:

  • 6.5 Gallon "Ale Pail" Primary Fermenter with Drilled & Grommeted Lid
  • 6.5 Gallon "Ale Pail" Bottling Bucket with Bottling Spigot
  • Easy Clean No-Rinse Cleanser
  • Airlock
  • Auto Siphon
  • Bottling Set-up
  • Instruction Manual
  • Hydrometer and Test Jar
  • Bottle Brush
  • Twin Lever Capper
  • Liquid Crystal Thermometer
  • Can add a recipe kit (5 options) and dry yeast
  • Recipe kit
  • Dry Yeast

Higher in price

Adventures in Homebrewing kits are higher in price than some competitors, but keep in mind that customers are brewing way more beer with AHB than most of the companies reviewed on our list. Aside from the brewing kits themselves, Adventures in Homebrewing also sells far more loose brewing equipment than any other competitor on our list - so for those who already have good brewing knowledge and experience, you are able to purchase whatever equipment you'd like for your brewing pleasure. Not feeling thirsty? Adventures in Homebrewing also sells yogurt, cheese, and vinegar making kits too.

Solid choice

Adventures in Homebrewing are noted for their quality customer service, providing an easy-to-use website, free shipping on all brewing kits, and accepted returns on orders within 30 days of delivery. They are a great option to consider, particularly for those with previous brewing experience. We think customers would also appreciate a smaller-batch option for novice brewers, and this would allow AHB the chance to build up loyalty from brewers at the start. Still, Adventures in Homebrewing is a good option to consider for your brewing needs.

Brew & Wine Supply

Brew & Wine Supply is a last resort option. They claim to "stock only the good stuff" that is worth selling; however, their company goal is difficult to even decipher on the website.

72 beer ingredient lists, but no equipment

While they do sell 72 beer ingredient kits, none come with equipment, meaning that customers have to already have equipment, or know which equipment to purchase. This could be extremely intimidating for novice brewers, who now have to thumb through several tabs of brewing equipment with little guidance.

Best Home Brew Beer Supplies

Frustrating shopping experience

The Brew & Wine Supply website is difficult to navigate, and not appealing to the eye; and their operating hours are pretty limited for customers. They do sell their beer and wine ingredient kits at a competitive price, so they meet the basic standard of selling what they claim to sell. Free shipping is provided on orders $50+, and some international shipping may be available as well. Brew & Wine Supply also sells an array of coffee, tea, soda, sausage, jerky, and cheese.

Room for improvement

While Brew & Wine Supplies is cost appealing, it comes at a huge loss of quality compared to our other ranked companies. They have a dismal D- rating on the Better Business Bureau, and could put in some effort to increase their professionalism and appeal to customers. We recommend looking elsewhere for your brewing needs.

Continued from above

Originating in the Neolithic period in Mesopotamia (say that 3 times fast after 3 beers!), beer developed as a thicker drink and was dominated in production by women. With the advent of new tools allowed by the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, beer was finally able to be mass produced and provided for the everyday man everywhere. Throughout history beer has been has been beloved, prohibited, praised, and enjoyed.

With the ability to try something new, perfect a craft, or give the gift that keeps on giving, home brewing equipment and recipe kits provide beer lovers, of all kinds, the ability to unite with one sip of a golden ale.

You may feel a little nervous starting out - and that's okay! There are plenty of companies out there with simple starter-kits that have boiled the brew process down to the basics. Maybe you have some experience, and are ready to upgrade to a more individualized brewing experience. Perhaps you already know you enjoy the crisp and refreshing brews of a pale summer ale, or the chocolatey and coffee notes of a deep stout, and you're looking to put your own spin on it. No matter what your particular position may be, we believe you'll find a company that can satisfy your particular brewing desires.

Basic store-bought brands won't ever be the same after enjoying a cold beer following your dedication and hard work. Many of the home brewing supply companies we've reviewed will offer equipment to match your skill level, and recipes to match your taste buds. All you have to do is pick the brew that best suits you!

With such high demand, and a broad and expansive marketplace to choose from, it's no wonder home brewing continues to rise in popularity. However, the brewing supply companies themselves are likely to vary in style, flexibility, focus, and price point. It's important to research what brew supply features are most important to you:

  • Price. What is the cost of supplies? Do you have to pay an additional cost for the recipe itself? Is there a shipping cost? Are there any discounts available?
  • Brew Skill Level. How complex or simple would you like your brewing equipment to be? Often more simplistic brew kits are easy to follow, but difficult to customize. What is your previous experience with brewing? How much beer are you hoping to make?
  • Customer Service. How reputable is the company? Do they have a return policy? Are they well-known for their treatment of customers?
  • Selection. Do they also sell hard cider brewing equipment? Wine making equipment? Do they offer food add-ons or mixes, so you can enjoy those along with your well-earned beverage? has reviewed and ranked the best Home Brewing Supply Companies available today. We hope these reviews help you find the right home brewing supplies to suit your needs!
