Modern technology even allows customers to use laptops, tablets, and smartphones to control many systems remotely: whether on vacation, at work, or at school, users can make sure that their unoccupied residence is safe and secure, lock and unlock doors, and even change the thermostat so that the home is at the desired temperature by the time everyone returns home.

Wireless home security systems are particularly popular among renters, whose landlords may not provide any form of electronic security on the premises. These wireless systems are simple to install and configure and don't require tenants to get permission from their landlords before putting them into use.

It is important to realize that Kansans can use good decision-making to supplement the protection offered by their home security systems. When going on vacation, for instance, they should make sure not to announce their intentions on social media channels, thus informing a wide network of people that the home will be unoccupied for a period of time.

Having a good relationship with neighbors is further protection while away during the day or on vacation, as people become familiar with what is normal activity and what may be suspicious. Good neighbors can also rely on one another to bring in the mail and newspapers in each other's absence. Also, common sense would say that all windows and doors should be both closed and locked when leaving home for any length of time, and valuable items and documents can be well-protected by an in-home safe.

Between reputable home security companies' services and wise choices, Kansans can better protect themselves from property crime.
