Home Security in Montana

Montana MapMontanans may be shocked to learn that, in a typical year, they are above the national average for risk of being the victim of property crimes; the chances of their experiencing burglary or other property crime are 1 in 39. What can residents of Montana do to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their belongings?

Many approaches are easy and inexpensive to implement. Motion detectors on bright exterior lights can effectively deter potential criminals, as they would rather enter homes undetected. Also, landscaping should be kept away from windows and doors, thus eliminating a possible hiding place. Some Montanans need to be reminded to close and lock windows and doors when leaving home; there are additional security measures that can help to make homes more difficult to enter, such as sliding glass door brackets and wooden dowels in window tracks, and heavy-duty strike plates and deadbolts to reinforce the security of entry doors.

Nonetheless, one of the most effective ways to protect a residence is a home security system. These systems usually include around-the-clock monitoring; door and window sensors; and audible alarms and strobe lights that get the attention of neighbors and occupants if there is a break-in. Several home security companies in Montana offer packages at affordable prices that include remote-control capabilities: a laptop, iPhone, or other device can be used turn lights off and on, change a thermostat setting, shut a garage door that was left open inadvertently, or even arm the system. Montana residents who are on the road for business or pleasure will appreciate being able to check on the status of their homes at any time of day, from anywhere they have an Internet connection.

For Montanans who are trying to avoid becoming a statistic in terms of property crime, they can choose from many home security companies who will help them not only choose a system to meet their needs, but also give them advice on other steps they can take to improve the safety and security of their homes.
