Home Security in Tennessee

Tennessee MapWith the likelihood of becoming a victim of property crime at 1 in every 31 residents, homeowners and renters in Tennessee are looking for ways to better protect themselves from burglary and home invasion.

The first steps are simple and inexpensive. Doors should have a solid core and heavy-duty deadbolts and strike plates, making it more difficult for an intruder to break open a door by force or by sliding a credit card between the latch and the frame. Windows on horizontal tracks should be reinforced with a wooden dowel in those tracks, to prevent the window being slid open. The least expensive method of burglary prevention, and one of the most overlooked, is to ensure that all doors and windows are both closed and locked before leaving home; a high percentage of burglaries happen when Tennessee residents give criminals an easy entry to their homes. Even home safes have dropped in price, and they can provide a safe place to store important documents, money, jewelry, and other valuables; safes not be left standing freely but rather installed into floors or shelving so that they can't be carried off.

However, having an electronic home security system installed provides the most thorough way to protect Tennessee families and belongings. Today's home security systems give customers around-the-clock protection and monitoring of door and window alarms, smoke detectors, and other system components and can alert authorities to a problem before the homeowners are even aware. Even renters are able to take advantage of the protection offered by home security systems, whether or not such systems are offered by property owners: wireless systems are easy-to-install and don't require a connection to existing wiring, giving tenants the ability to use such systems without obtaining landlord consent beforehand.

Tennessee residents can choose from a number of reputable home security companies who will help them select an affordable package that best meets their needs.
