Identity Theft in Idaho

Idaho MapIf you live in Idaho, you are fortunately at a relatively low risk for identity theft, as your state ranks 12th lowest in the nation for that type of crime. However, if you are one of the more than 750 people in a typical year who experience that violation of your privacy, you know that the effects can be devastating. Identity theft can result in low credit scores, the inability to secure loans for home and automobile purchases, or even more serious consequences such as false imprisonment.

To better protect yourself against identity theft, you may want to consider the services of an Identity Protection company. They offer Idaho customers 24-hour monitoring of all provided personal information, acting immediately when any suspicious activity is detected with respect to social security numbers, driver's license numbers, bank accounts, or other identifying information. They offer their clients greater peace of mind, knowing that any fraudulent activity is likely to be noticed and stopped quickly, rather than being discovered days, weeks, or even months after the fact, and after already having wreaked havoc on their credit score.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also recommends that Idahoans take several simple steps to protect against identity theft. First, keep your personal information safe offline: lock financial records and documents in a safe place (e.g. a safe or a safe deposit box at your bank), keep your purse or wallet in a safe place at work, and even destroy the labels on your prescription bottles before you discard them. Also be sure to protect your information online: encrypt your data (look for a lock symbol on the status bar of your browser), keep your passwords private and make sure they are not easy to guess (i.e. your children's names are not a good idea), and don't overshare on social media.

Identity Theft Protection services and being wise with your personal information can help decrease the likelihood that you will become a victim of identity theft crime in Idaho.
