Best Jewelry Stores

What's the best Jewelry Store? Every year, almost 40 million people shop online for jewelry - and with good reason! Why stand in line for over an hour during a peak season like Valentine's Day or Mother's Day, hoping that there might be something she'd like, when you can shop any time of day (or night) and get the world's best selection while sitting in your living room?

Today's best online jewelry stores make it almost unthinkable to shop at a local store. The lack of overhead with online jewelry means that they can bring you prices as much as 50% lower than what you'd find elsewhere. When you add in free shipping, extended return periods, and the same certifications and guarantees you get from a local jeweler, and it's easy to see why it makes sense to buy jewelry from an online store.

BLUE NILE

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award As Forbes magazine's "Favorite Online Jeweler", it should come as no surprise that Blue Nile also continues to come in first place as the best jewelry store on the internet - particularly for shoppers looking for engagement rings, diamonds in general, and fine jewelry overall. Blue Nile has an unmatched reputation for quality, attention to detail, best-in-industry pricing, and an exceptional level of customer service to nearly two million customers since its start in 1999.

Compared with other jewelry stores - both online jewelry stores and traditional brick-and-mortar jewelers - Blue Nile's selection is mind-blowing. In their one Seattle-area warehouse, they carry as much inventory as you'd find in almost 200 individual stores combined. And, within that same location, world-class jewelers and gemologists also craft customer-designed pieces; you can even see some of the most recently-created jewelry featured on Blue Nile's main page.

Shopping Blue Nile's website couldn't be any easier. You can click directly to the pages that feature Diamonds, Engagement Rings, Wedding Rings and related gifts, Jewelry, or Gifts through the links at the top of the page. Within each of those categories, you'll also find dropdowns that include diamond shapes, types of jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, and so forth), and more specific examples of what Blue Nile has to offer. You can also have some fun with the Build Your Own Ring feature, where you have the option to start with a diamond or with a setting.

Across more than a dozen jewelry stores we surveyed, Blue Nile consistently had the lowest prices while still maintaining very high standards of quality:

  • Diamonds: every loose diamond comes with a grading report from the GIA, an independent diamond grading lab that is well-known for consistency and strict grading standards.
  • Diamond Jewelry: all diamonds set in Blue Nile pieces must be colorless to near colorless (D-I color grade) and have exceptional clarity (FL-I1 grade).
  • Pearl Jewelry: although there are no industry-standard grading scales for pearls, Blue Nile makes sure that each one is of excellent quality.
  • Platinum Jewelry: all platinum used by Blue Nile is 95% pure.

Blue Nile offers free shipping, free returns within 30 days of purchase, and a guarantee that they'll match the price of any comparable diamond you may find at another store.

Blue Nile also excels with respect to customer education about jewelry. You can easily learn about the 4 Cs of diamonds, how to choose a diamond, even how the stone's shape affects its price. You'll find those articles both in the dropdown boxes at the top of the page as well as on the site's homepage. Or, just click on the handy Education tab towards the upper right corner.

Not sure if your order went through? Have a middle-of-the-night question about what type of diamond would be best for your bride-to-be? Blue Nile may be the only jewelry store of this caliber to offer 24/7/365 live customer service. You can access live chat or their toll-free number at the top left corner of the site.

Blue Nile sets the bar very high, not just as the largest seller of engagement rings in America but across all types of fine jewelry. Along with their world-class selection of diamonds, and pricing that invariably beats the competition, Blue Nile continues to earn our highest rating as the best jewelry store.

Helzberg Diamonds

HELZBERG DIAMONDS

100+ years. That's how long Helzberg Diamonds has been in the jewelry business, with the reputation to match as an accredited, A+ merchant with the Better Business Bureau. As you're probably aware, Helzberg has numerous retail locations throughout the United States - but for the widest selection, you'll want to visit their online storefront rather than heading to the mall.

That selection is very broad, ranging from traditional engagement and wedding options to earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and much more. Helzberg also carries one of the widest inventories of today's most desired brands, such as watches by Movado and Tissot, EFFY diamonds, and even Disney Fine Jewelry. And, if you're looking for a deal, be sure to check out the Clearance tab at the top of the page.

Once you narrow down what type of jewelry you want, you'll be able to quickly narrow down the options according to price, metal, stone shape or type, or any other applicable criteria on the left side of the results. But, if you're the kind of shopper who just wants to get something tried, true, and trending, most categories have a "Top 25" section so that you can see what many other shoppers have liked. Or, look at the average customer rating on the items that catch your eye; because Helzberg is one of the larger jewelry stores in the nation, you'll likely find many more reviews on individual pieces than you might see in a more boutique-level business.

As the name suggests, Helzberg does specialize in diamonds. Choosing an engagement ring can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, from shopping the Top 25 to designing your own one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality piece. Helzberg has over 600 engagement rings to browse, ranging in price from $500 to $20,000, or click on the Create Your Own link to start by choosing the ideal diamond, gemstone, or setting. Be patient: Helzberg has over 30,000 certified diamonds, thousands of settings, 30 different colored gemstones that can be combined for your one perfect ring.

When you sign up for the Helzberg email list, you'll get a coupon code for a savings of $25 off your first purchase of $99.99 or more. For additional savings, keep your eyes open as you browse the site; on the day we shopped, there was a promotional code at the top of the page for a savings of $100 off $399.99; that code alternated with a "buy one, get one free" promotion as well. (This last one applied to ‘select styles only" no two-for-one engagement rings here!)

Additional discounts are available to anyone who is active duty or retired military, or a registered dependent of an active/retired member of the military. Be sure to call the toll-free number before you make your purchase, and you'll get a code for a 10% discount (but it can't be combined with any other promotion; it's also not valid on loose diamonds or custom gemstone jewelry).

Helzberg is one of only a few higher-end jewelry stores that doesn't offer free shipping on every order: you'll have to spend at least $149.99 for that perk. Otherwise, expect to spend $9.95 for a delivery from 5-7 business days from the time your order ships. Or, if you happen to have a brick-and-mortar location close enough to drive, you may be able to select the free "Pick Up In-Store" option on some items.

On the other hand, Helzberg's return policy is more generous than many of their competitors': you have 60 days to return and/or exchange your purchase, rather than the standard 30 offered by most stores. This policy is shortened to 30 days for watches, which must be unworn and in like-new condition.

Helzberg Diamonds takes the stress out of shopping for jewelry by giving customers the best possible selection at just the click of a mouse - with hundreds of retail locations for easy returns or questions if you should need it. Their selection, reputation, and pricing make them a top-rated jewelry store. Helzberg earns one of our highest rankings.

Super Jeweler

SUPER JEWELER

Visit Site

When you first visit the Super Jeweler site, you might be overwhelmed by the layout. You'll see flashing boxes, scrolling tickers, and jewelry shown with three different prices (list, Super Jeweler price, special or deal price). Don't click away or you'll miss some of the web's best-priced jewelry.

Super Jeweler is the only retailer we found with free shipping to every continent. Within the US, orders under $479 ship via DHL Smart Mail, up to $5000 goes by USPS Priority, and orders over $5000 get free express next-day delivery. Want extra savings? Keep an eye on the site; when we visited, there was a coupon code advertising a 10% discount on any order.

Super Jeweler's everyday prices are almost always lower than or the same as the most competitive jewelry stores online. And, the online shopping experience is better than most. When you select the category you want, you can easily sort through your options visually, and/or narrow down your results by metal, karats, ring size availability, price, gemstone, clarity, and much more. You'll definitely want to use those sorting options; in rings alone, Super Jeweler has more than 5,800 to choose from!

The only jewelry category where Super Jeweler doesn't keep pace with the competition is in watches and other accessory-type items. Super Jeweler only carries rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

Shoppers will appreciate Super Jeweler's availability: not only do they have agents available from 7am-7pm (Eastern) Monday through Friday and from 9a-6p on Saturdays, but their online live chat is accessible 24/7 - for those middle-of-the night "I forgot my anniversary is next week" panic attacks, perhaps.

And, customers who are using Super Jeweler for fine jewelry purchases are happy to find out that their items are protected by a Limited Lifetime Guarantee, which covers all products with diamonds and/or gemstones. This guarantee covers any side stone lost during the lifetime of either the purchaser or recipient, and any center gemstone or diamond lost in the first year of ownership. That's a great perk not offered by most jewelry stores.

Super Jeweler also exceeds expectations with their return policy. Their competitors usually accept returns within 30 days of receipt; Super Jeweler allows returns within 60 days of the shipment date as long as the items are in original condition.

How does Super Jeweler perform in actual customer reviews? Not surprisingly, the scrolling ticker-style reviews all showed 5-stars and glowing comments. When we looked at third-party review sites, though, we found a few less-than-perfect reviews. However, Super Jeweler had an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars in nearly 13,000 reviews within the last 12 months. Super Jeweler does get bonus points for having an "A+" rating with the BBB to go along with their other customer feedback.

We found lots of good reasons to shop at Super Jeweler and think you will too.

JARED

"Did he go to Jared?" That's what the commercials ask. Maybe the better question is, should you? If you like shopping online at a jewelry store that is backed by numerous retail locations, has a parent company (Signet Jewelers Limited) with an A+ rating at the Better Business Bureau, and you want one of the widest selections of jewelry on the market, the answer is probably "yes, you should!"

Jared - "The Galleria of Jewelry" - has one of the widest range of jewelry items available online, from popular brands like Pandora and Vera Wang, to exclusive "only at Jared" items you won't see at other stores.

If you're shopping for a ring to pop the big question, we definitely suggest that you take a look at Jared's engagement guide. One particularly helpful section reminds you that knowing your intended's style is the key element to choosing the perfect ring - and they've got a guide to help you do just that. Jared has nearly 1,000 engagement rings to choose from, ranging in price from $479.99 to $20,000, and you can easily sort through your options according to your budget range, ring style, stone shape, metal type, and more - just click on the appropriate checkboxes on the left side of the page.

And, as we shopped for an engagement ring, we got a pop-up offering a 15% discount on our purchase if we entered our email address. On one of those higher-end designs, that could be a significant savings!

Alternately, you have three options for creating a one-of-a-kind engagement ring: Build Your Own, Design-a-Ring, and Custom Design. While they may sound the same, Jared uses each one slightly differently to help you come up with the perfect ring for the perfect proposal. The Design-a-Ring tool even lets you try your creation virtually using a mobile device and your hand!

Other categories were equally broad. Watches? Nearly 80. Earrings? Over 1,900 pairs. Bracelets? Just under 1,500. You'd have a hard time finding something on another site that Jared doesn't carry as well.

And, for shoppers on a budget, Jared has a hand "Sale" tab at the top of the page, including a few options for previously-owned, high-end watches and other jewelry pieces.

We were surprised that Jared didn't offer free shipping on all orders, like many higher-ranked jewelry stores tend to. You can get free shipping via 2nd Business Day Air if you would like to pick up your purchase at a Jared store, or if you spend at least $50. Otherwise, expect to spend at least $9.95 for shipping via UPS Ground.

Jared's return policy is also industry-standard: 30 days after purchase. But, Jared doesn't seem to require that you get a Return Merchandise Authorization first, so just follow the instructions on your packing slip if you should need to send your jewelry back.

Only one area surfaced where Jared was behind the competition: quality and pricing of diamonds. We found a number of diamond experts who compared what Jared offers (both in-store and online) with other retailers, including several in our review. Unfortunately, across the board, the stones sold by Jared tended to be of lower quality but at higher prices. This seemed to be the case for many online jewelry stores who also have the high overhead of brick-and-mortar locations and was not unique to Jared alone. If you do choose Jared for your diamond purchase, we suggest that you also have the stone appraised by the jeweler of your choice, just to make sure that you've gotten the value you've paid for.

But, on the whole, the Jared shopping experience is solid: their broad selection gives every customer many choices, no matter what type of jewelry they're seeking, and a strong brand reputation with numerous local stores makes it easy to make returns, ask questions, or get customized guidance during the buying process. Jared is a good option among jewelry stores online.

Reeds Jewelers

REEDS JEWELERS

Visit Site

When you shop for jewelry, buying from an established business can lend a sense of familiarity and peace of mind to your purchase. Reeds Jewelers was founded in 1946 in North Carolina and is still a family-run business that seeks "to make every customer feel like family" whether they shop at one of their retail locations in 13 states or through their online storefront.

Reeds has an excellent selection of jewelry across a broad variety of styles, designers and brands. You'll find an ample inventory of rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches across every end of the price spectrum. In the Rings department alone, you can buy a $36,000 Forevermark diamond solitaire measuring 3ct, an Alex and Ani ring for under $20, or over 2,000 other ring designs.

The collections sold by this jewelry store intrigued us too. Alternative Metals, ASPCA Tender Voices, Disney, and TV& Movies were categories we didn't find with many other retailers. We also liked Reeds' selection of less-traditional jewelry pieces and accessories, like gifts for children, cufflinks and keychains, and even home accents.

On the other hand, Reeds may come up a little short if you're specifically looking for diamonds. Comparing their inventory with competitors', Reeds' stones tend to be lower quality for higher prices.

If you'd like to save $25 on a purchase of $150+, look for the pop-up offering that discount for signing up for Reeds' email newsletter; it says, "join the Reeds Jewelers family", but don't worry. You're only signing up for emails, not for an account! We found several other discount offers by clicking on the Customer Care link and then on the Promotions subheading: $50 off $250+ and $100 off $700+. Finally, Reeds will save you extra money with free shipping on every order with no minimum purchase.

Reeds' return policy is standard among most reputable jewelry stores: 30 days from the delivery date and in unused condition. Because they do have brick-and-mortar locations, many of their items can be returned to a local store if you happen to live nearby.

We were very pleased to see that Reeds' reviews as an online retailer were strong: not every jewelry store can maintain a positive retail and web presence, but this one seems to be doing it right. Although there were a few customer complaints, Reeds' customer service representatives took the time to respond to each one in a pleasant and helpful manner.

For all of these reasons, we recommend Reeds as a jewelry store that is worth your consideration for your next purchase.

Szul

SZUL

Visit Site

Szul is an online-only jewelry store with offices located in the heart of the Diamond District in New York City. This allows them to offer lower prices compared with traditional brick-and-mortar stores while still getting high-quality gemstones, rings, bracelets, and other jewelry for their customers.

This retailer has a decent selection ranging from earrings, necklaces and bracelets to engagement rings, wedding sets, and anniversary rings. Their inventory comes up a little short when it comes to men; there were no watches, cufflinks, or even bracelets/necklaces geared towards that market, only gold wedding bands and diamond rings.

If you are in search of the perfect engagement ring, Szul can help. You can start by browsing through nearly 1,000 designs - or, if you want something truly unique, you can create your own by choosing the exact diamond, ring setting and style. Szul has an inventory of thousands of GIA- and EGL-certified diamonds. Use the streamlined search tool to select the ideal diamond by shape, price range, size, even color/clarity/cut grades. Alternately, you can start by choosing the setting - yellow gold, white gold, or platinum, and classic, side stone or bridal set style - and then select a diamond to match.

Not looking for a wedding ring? No problem - Szul also offers traditional jewelry like gold hoop earrings and pearl pendants. Use the drop-down options at the top of the page to find the category you're thinking of, and then sort the available choices using the filtering tools on the side of the page. Overall, we found Szul's pricing to be competitive with other online jewelry stores'.

Would you like to save money? (Who wouldn't!) We got a pop-up offering a 10% discount if we entered our email address; this discount did not apply to any purchases of Certified Loose Diamonds. Szul also stays affordable by offering free ground shipping on every purchase, along with free gift packaging.

If, for any reason, you are unhappy with your Szul purchase, you can return your item within 30 days of purchase; be aware that unless you obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization number and write it on your return label, you may be subject to a restocking fee. Certified Loose Diamonds have to be returned within 15 days of delivery and with the original grading certificate as well; otherwise, you'll be on the hook for a certification replacement fee of up to $500.

Szul customers are usually happy with what they purchase and with the overall shopping experience. And, an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau shows that this jewelry store is doing an excellent job of meeting customer expectations and resolving any issues. But, we did find several reviews that complained that the items received weren't accurately represented by the photos on the Szul website, that packaging was sometimes subpar, and that some items lost stones within a few months of being worn. Considering that Szul's wear-and-tear repair guarantee only extends 60 days past the purchase date, that could be a problem for some shoppers.

One other slight issue we encountered that was also an issue mentioned in customer reviews came up during payment. When we created our new customer account, rather than signing in using our PayPal account, it seemed that we no longer had the option to pay using PayPal. We had to use a credit card instead. Because PayPal often offers incentives for paying using their service, those might be lost if you don't use your PayPal information to sign up for your Szul account.

Overall, however, Szul has a good reputation, an impressive supply of diamonds and ring settings, and enough other types of jewelry to keep the average shopper happy.

Jewelry

JEWELRY

Visit Site

Owned by Warren Buffett's The Richline Group and proudly declaring itself as "the largest jewelry manufacturer in the world", Jewelry has been offering "best of web pricing" on thousands of items for more than 15 years.

Unlike the majority of the jewelry stores we've shopped, Jewelry takes a very low-key approach to sales. When you first visit the site, you'll only see a few featured jewelry items to pique your curiosity, not row after row of images trying to get you to click. Already know what you're looking for? You'll probably need to click on the somewhat vaguely-named heading of Jewelry; most other jewelry stores break that heading out into categories. Why not this one? Because Jewelry has a unique focus on designers and collections.

Some of the renowned designers whose work is featured on Jewelry are:

  • Van Kempen
  • Sajen
  • Cristina Sabatini
  • Honora
  • Crysalis
  • Zoccai 925
  • Kabana
  • American West

Jewelry also offers a Collections page; you may find something whimsical like Star Wars or sparkly like Crystaluxe. You may enjoy browsing the New Arrivals and Deals headings, depending on whether you'd like to see what's trending or what's on sale.

For the typical shopper, it's the Jewelry page that gets the most attention. You can select specific categories from the drop-down, such as necklaces, rings, and earrings, or specific metal types like gold or silver. Shopping by price range is also available - especially helpful if you're shopping on a budget and don't know quite what you want to get that special someone. If you're looking for something on the spendier side, you can click on the "$500+" category under the Jewelry heading. When we shopped at this store, the most expensive item they carried was a 4 ½ Ct diamond bracelet for $2,381, though the original price was shown as almost $12,000!

Also, unlike many online jewelry stores, this retailer doesn't have a huge focus on engagement and wedding rings. They do offer them, but you'll have to do a little more clicking to get there. (Hint: click on Jewelry, then on Rings when you get the dropdown. You'll then need to hunt down the tiny "Filter By" towards the right side of the page. From there, you can click on wedding/anniversary or engagement, whichever you need.)

Jewelry keeps pace with the competition by offering free shipping on all orders, and with a 30-day return policy as long as the jewelry is in original, unused condition with all packaging and tags.

Unsurprisingly, Jewelry's customer feedback is also so low-key as to be almost unnoticeable. There were no testimonials on the website, practically no reviews anywhere else online, and a solid, reputable "A" grade with the Better Business Bureau. Maybe Jewelry just doesn't like to brag?

At the end of the day, though, being backed by such a large conglomerate as Berkshire Hathaway is nothing to easily dismiss, especially with a great reputation with the BBB. We think that Jewelry is a good choice for shoppers who want something unique and perhaps a little colorful, though not necessarily the best for couples waiting to say "I do" because of their limited focus on engagement and wedding rings and sets.

Kay Jewelers

KAY JEWELERS

Visit Site

"Every kiss begins with K(ay)". We've all heard the famous tagline, especially around any holiday that typically includes romantic gifts. Kay Jewelers is part of the Signet brand family, which also includes Jared, Zales, and several other well-known jewelry store brands. While Kay is probably best recognized for its retail locations in malls throughout the U.S., they offer their ample selection online for easy, no-lines shopping.

In the past, Kay's online selection was somewhat limited. But, they've done an excellent job of expanding their inventory, making an impressive array of products available to jewelry shoppers:

  • Engagement/Wedding Rings
  • Rings
  • Necklaces
  • Bracelets
  • Earrings
  • Charms
  • Watches
  • Gifts
  • Personalized
  • Collections
  • Clearance

As you browse each of those categories, you'll find the dropdown options to help you narrow down your search. Kay's selection is massive; just in the Earrings category alone, they had almost 2,000 options to choose from. Fortunately, the site is easy to navigate and even easier to sort through all those options; we were able to quickly filter our results by price, customer reviews, or even by designer or collection to see just those pieces of jewelry that met our criteria.

We love Kay's Lifetime Diamond & Color Gemstone guarantee: as long as you have your piece inspected by an authorized Kay representative every 6 months, they'll replace any diamond, emerald, ruby or sapphire that is chipped, broken, or lost during normal wear. And, you can get a free professional cleaning and inspection at a local Kay store as many times as you wish.

Kay Jewelers' return policy is industry-standard: 30 days. Their shipping prices are slightly less competitive with the highest-ranked jewelry stores we reviewed: you'll only get it for free if you spend more than $50, but most purchases from Kay are likely to be at least that amount.

The only jewelry category where Kay Jewelers might not measure up to expectations is when it comes to diamonds. Many diamond experts assert that the stones sold by Kay's tend to be overpriced when compared with competitor stones of the same quality. Also, there were concerns a few years ago as some customers alleged that when they brought their diamonds in for a cleaning or appraisal, they were replaced with lower-value stones.

But, we found no indication with the Better Business Bureau that the issue still needed to be resolved, and Kay's parent company Signet enjoys an A+ rating with the BBB.

Kay Jewelers will probably impress you with their extensive inventory across many different types of jewelry, and having the ability to get free cleanings and inspections at local stores might be a perk you could enjoy for years to come. Our only recommendation is that if you choose Kay for a purchase involving diamonds, especially high-end stones, you get an independent appraisal within the 30-day return period - just to ensure that there are no unpleasant surprises down the road.

JEWELRY TELEVISION

Whether you're looking for costume pieces or a high-quality diamond, you're likely to find it at Jewelry Television. For almost 25 years, JTV has been on the air, selling jewelry to eager customers around the clock. And yes, when you visit their website, you will see a scrolling ticker of their most recently-aired rings, watches, earrings, and more.

But, you can also shop JTV's user-friendly website to easily find what you're looking for, even if you didn't see it on their broadcast. Most items will be found in the drop-down under the Jewelry heading at the top of the page. Once you've narrowed down the category you want, use the left-hand options to narrow down your search by price, gemstone, metal type, and much more.

We were pleasantly surprised by JTV's selection. We expected the site to have nothing but inexpensive imitation gemstones, but we were able to find higher-end options. For example, there were 8 bridal sets with genuine diamonds (.50 ctw to 1.00 ctw); we also found a number of loose diamonds and other genuine stones under the Gemstones heading at the top of the site.

Prices at Jewelry Television are competitive with other stores. Most items ship for free or for a flat fee of $2.99, and each product is clearly marked with the shipping cost. Keep an eye out for extra savings: when we used the JTV site, we got a pop-up offer of a $10 discount on an order of $49+ if we signed up for their email newsletter.

JTV has a reasonable return policy: if you are not completely satisfied, you can return your jewelry in original condition within 30 days of delivery for an exchange or return. At the retailer's discretion, returns may be accepted within 31-90 days after delivery while being subject to a 25% restocking fee. We found several customer reviews that described the return process as easy.

Customers have great things to say about the shopping experience and the quality of the jewelry they purchased through JTV. Over more than 18,000 reviews, this jewelry store has an average of 4.7 out of 5 stars; this reputation is backed by an "A+" rating as an accredited merchant with the Better Business Bureau.

Jewelry Television, despite the slightly less-than-glamorous name, is a good choice for a variety of jewelry styles and price points. And, their customer service is reputable and responsive, should you have any reason to make a return.

True Facet

TRUE FACET

Visit Site

Considering True Facet for your jewelry purchase? Right from the start, you're going to have an experience unlike any other jewelry store: True Facet is the only merchant in our review that offers pre-owned jewelry (either listed or on consignment), as well as a boutique for brand-new items directly from partner brands. This means that this jewelry store is strictly online; you won't find a showroom or other retail location, as they serve primarily as the broker between you and the individual seller and/or manufacturer.

Does the thought of buying used jewelry make you nervous? True Facet sets your mind at ease with an authenticity promise: the sellers send each item to True Facet, whose experts examine it and any accompanying documentation to make sure it's authentic. If you're not satisfied when you get it, you can return it and get a refund.

Of course, because the pre-owned items are coming from individuals, one customer complaint is that this jewelry store's inventory fluctuates. If you see something you love but take a day or two to think it over, it's possible that it'll be gone when you go back to the site. Naturally, this doesn't apply to the boutique jewelry items that are sold directly from the manufacturer.

When you create a True Facet account or subscribe to their email newsletter, you can get a credit of $50 towards your first purchase of $200+. True Facet also saves you money by offering free FedEx and UPS shipping within the US.

On the downside, this merchant's return policy is very restrictive: you only have 7 business days from the time you received your jewelry, but the good news is that True Facet covers the return shipping costs.

Does True Facet deliver? It depends on who you ask. If you look at their Google ratings on the website, it would seem that the answer is "yes": lots of 5-star reviews with no comments or complaints. But when you read the negative comments there or on the Better Business Bureau listing - where, disappointingly, True Facet has a less-than-inspiring "C+" grade - you'll find customers who received big-ticket items that proved not to be authentic, who had issues with their shipping process, and who had a hard time getting a satisfactory response from the business.

Perhaps True Facet is experiencing growing pains, only being in business for four years. In the world of Jewelry Stores, they're just starting out. And, the idea of being able to get a good price on an expensive piece of jewelry by buying from its previous owner has promise. But, True Facet will need to demonstrate some improvements in their process and in their customer service to improve in our rankings.

Netaya

NETAYA

Visit Site

Since 1999, Netaya has been offering rings, earrings, and bracelets for eager jewelry-shoppers around the world. You'll find their site to be elegant and crisp.

The selection at Netaya isn't as broad as some of the jewelry stores we shopped. For example, if you're looking for jewelry specifically for men, you first have to visit the "Collections" heading to get to the "Mens Shop" - and you'll only find 19 choices there, including a few rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Looking for bridal rings? Netaya carries four.

Shopping for certain items was frustrating. When we browsed the diamond stud earring selection, we had to decide if we wanted Value, Classic, or Premium quality, based on the diamonds' color and clarity. But in order to see what earrings were available in those tiers, we could only scroll one-by-one through a pair at a time - instead of the more natural presentation of being able to see many different options at once. It also made it impossible to know how many type of diamond studs were available.

Look around for any extra discounts that might be available; when we shopped this jewelry store, there was a banner at the bottom of the page offering a 25% savings on any order. And, joining the Netaya email list will get you a one-time 20% discount on an order, in case there's no current promotion when you shop the site. Also, shipping is free on every order: premium economy on orders under $250, and second-day air for orders of $250+.

Is Netaya the right place to buy your next piece of jewelry? Some customers would enthusiastically say "yes!" We found some reviews from shoppers who have used this jewelry store over many years and have been completely satisfied with the items they've received - maybe not the "hundreds of thousands of positive reviews" that the site claims to have gotten, but a handful. We also were encouraged by their A+ rating with the BBB.

However, the most recent reviews tell a different story. The majority of those are negative; common complaints are "disappointed with the jewelry", "didn't look anything like the picture", and "not what was advertised". Worse yet, the most-heard criticisms of Netaya relate to their customer service. Many customers experienced rude responses from company representatives - if they could actually get someone to answer the phone. Others said they got an automated voicemail message every time they called, over the course of several days.

Netaya has a 30-day return policy; unfortunately, you'll need to get a Return Authorization Number before you ship your item back (at your cost, incidentally).

This jewelry store's excellent rating with the BBB is worth taking into consideration, but the recent less-than-stellar experiences customers have had with Netaya's customer service department could make for a not-so-sparkly shopping experience. If you find something you like, and it fits your budget, be ready to assert yourself should the delivery or product quality not meet your expectations.

Diamonds International

DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL

Visit Site

Diamonds International carries watches, bracelets, diamond rings, necklaces, and much more. For more than 20 years, this New York company has been prominently featured by cruise ships, offering travelers a unique selection of jewelry at "affordable prices". Most of the items found at Diamonds International's 125 retail locations can be purchased through their website as well.

The Diamonds International site is easy to use, with the traditional search features and drop-down boxes at the top of the screen, with available filters on the side of the page to help you narrow down the results by price, item style, or gemstone.

As we shopped the Diamonds International site, we were surprised that their selection wasn't as broad as many other jewelry stores'. For example, there were no simple diamond stud earrings, and the wedding selection - engagement rings, bridal sets, engagement ring settings, wedding bands - had less than 160 total options. We also found that Diamonds International's prices were less than competitive with other retailers for diamonds of the same cut, size, and clarity.

Diamonds International does offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, but some customers report having difficulties getting the retailer to honor it. Unfortunately, as we dug deeper into customers' experiences with Diamonds International, we discovered that their rating with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our review was an unsatisfactory "D+".

The reason for that rating? According to the BBB, there is a pattern of complaints from customers - specifically those who purchased while on vacation - indicating that they were sold jewelry that appraised at much lower values with an independent jeweler, that diamonds fell out after a few wears, and that they couldn't reach a Diamonds International representative to make a claim on that 30-day guarantee. It's difficult to say if online shoppers would have that same experience, but the pattern shown with retail locations made it worth mentioning.

We appreciate that the BBB indicates that Diamonds International is taking steps to work on these issues - and that's the main reason we didn't give this retailer a lower rating. We hope to see Diamonds International make significant improvements that are reflected in customer reviews in the future.

Palm Beach Jewelry

PALM BEACH JEWELRY

Visit Site

Palm Beach Jewelry has an impressive selection of costume jewelry, also known as "fashion jewelry" - in other words, no precious gemstones like genuine diamonds or emeralds. If you're looking for men's and women's jewelry, such as rings, earrings, bracelets, and so on, you'll find numerous options. You can also find perfume and cologne for a well-rounded gift.

When we visited the site, we got a pop-up offering a savings of 20% if we signed up for the Palm Beach Jewelry email newsletter. We could also opt in for emails from Seta Jewelry - one of the other jewelry stores owned by the same parent company as Palm Beach. And, there was an easy-to-spot promotion for discounts of up to 70% off site-wide and free shipping on orders over $50 with the given coupon code.

We liked the overall range of jewelry and fragrance offered by Palm Beach, and we were encouraged to see that they have a product guarantee covering purchases for 90 days. And, with an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, we expected to find happy customers. This wasn't the case.

When we looked at what other buyers had to say, it was almost universally negative. The most common complaints were "bad quality", "unhelpful customer service representatives", and "couldn't get a refund". One review also said that 14K gold earrings were ordered; they broke after 3 months, and when the customer took them to a jeweler, she was told that the earrings were actually only "gold filled".

If you're looking for heirloom-quality items, you won't find it at Palm Beach Jewelry. You also may not find great-quality costume jewelry either, if previous customers' experiences are any indicator. Your best bet is to shop at a jewelry store with a better reputation.

Jeulia

JEULIA

Visit Site

When you first visit the Jeulia online store, you will probably be intrigued by the different types and styles of jewelry that they sell. Stackable bracelets, Pandora-style charms, and couple's rings are just a few examples of the attractive pieces offered by this retailer.

You may also be drawn in by Jeulia's promotions. At the time of our review, there were several discount offers at the top of the page (such as $30 off $180+ or $10 off $100+), and shipping is always free on every order.

But, a well-done website with photos of pretty pendants, elegant earrings, and charming charms means little when a company doesn't back what they sell. Here's where Jeulia's problems begin.

First, even though Jeulia used to have offices in California, they now operate from one location - in Hong Kong. Some customers said that their orders took weeks to deliver, and the tracking information provided by the seller was actually invalid.

We also would have liked to be reassured by Jeulia's one-year warranty and 30-day returns policies. But, when we tried to call the toll-free number on the Jeulia site, we weren't able to get a live representative; all of our menu selections took us to a recorded message. Given that you can only return your items if you can get in contact with a company representative - and that you'll be responsible for return shipping costs to Hong Kong if you do want a refund - this policy might not do you any good.

Finally, all of the gemstones on the Jeulia site are manufactured in a laboratory. The company has changed much of its wording on the site; they don't call the stones "diamonds" but now say that they are a "diamond white" color. That's more transparent than before.

Unfortunately, the biggest negative for Jeulia is their rating with the Better Business Bureau: a failing grade of "F". It is rare for a business to have that low of a grade, but Jeulia does. Why? According to the BBB, Jeulia was asked to respond to numerous customer complaints - not receiving purchases, not being able to get a response regarding orders or refunds - as well as to defend their site's advertising of lowest prices and money-back guarantee. Jeulia never responded to the BBB.

As the lowest-ranked jewelry store in our review, Jeulia is more likely to disappoint that delight. We recommend that you consider a jeweler with a much better reputation for your next purchase.

Continued from above

Of course, not every jewelry store is the same. Some specialize in "fashion" or "costume" jewelry; if you're looking for an inexpensive piece just to add some sparkle to a fun evening, or maybe an imitation item that won't break your heart if it gets lost, this type of jewelry might be perfect. Those stores are less likely to sell luxury, high-priced jewelry with precious metals and gemstones, however - so you may need to select a store that specializes in heirloom-quality craftsmanship and materials.

As you begin your search for the ideal online jewelry store, what should you keep in mind? Here are several criteria that can help you make your decision:

  • Selection. What does the store carry? Is it a limited range of rings, necklaces and earrings, or do they have options for men and children too?
  • Prices. How does the jewelry store measure up to the competition? Do they offer free shipping, pop-up discount offers, or any other promotions?
  • Quality. What do customers say about the jewelry they've purchased? Does it last, or have stones fallen out after a few wears? Are items marked as "diamond" authentic, or are they synthetic stones?
  • Return Policy. If you don't like the necklace, ring, or watch after you've received it, can it be returned? Will you have to pay a restocking fee?
  • Reputation. Are customers generally happy with their experience, both with the jewelry they received and with the customer service department if help was needed? Is the company easy to reach if there's a problem? Does the store have a rating with the BBB?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best jewelry stores available today. Whether you're shopping for an engagement ring, a necklace for your significant other, or just a new bit of sparkle to add to your collection, we hope these reviews will help you find the right piece of jewelry at the right price!

What You Should Look For When Buying a Diamond

A lot of people have this question. Buying a diamond is a commitment, so it's understandable that you'd want to educate yourself thoroughly before taking the plunge. Even so, this goes beyond picking the right jewelry store or knowing what kind of setting you'd like. What you should look for when buying a diamond directly relates to the four C's.

What Are the Four C's?

The four C's stands for carat, color, clarity, and cut. These are the main principles on which you should base your diamond purchasing decision. These attributes and their grading scales were developed by the Gemological Institute of America.

  • Carat
The carat of a diamond is another term for weight. As an example, a 1-carat diamond weighs 200 milligrams. The weight of diamond you select depends on your budget and your preferences. A single large stone will cost more than several small ones. Still, the small ones could be of excellent quality.
  • Color
The color of a diamond rates its color from white to yellow or brown. The whiter the diamond, the more valuable and the more beautiful. The grading system ranges from D (for white--very rare) to Z (brown). The closer to the letter "D" the color is graded, the more valuable the diamond will be.
  • Clarity
The clarity of a diamond refers to how flawless it is. Flaws include pits, dips, cracks, scratches, and air bubbles. The grading system here ranges from F to I3. F stands for flawless, the rarest of diamonds. VVS stands for very, very slightly included. VS stands for very slightly included. S stands for slightly included. And finally, I stands for included. A diamond in the VVS-S range will be very attractive to the naked eye.
  • Cut
The cut of a diamond refers to how it was cut by a jeweler. This is related to its shape, but does not refer directly to it. How a diamond is cut will effect how much light it reflects. The more precisely and symmetrically a diamond is cut, the more light it will reflect and the more shine and sparkle it will have. The highest cut grade is "Ideal".

Other Factors
When determining what you should look for when buying a diamond, of course you need to pay attention to the four C's. Still, you also need to think about the shape of diamond you would want. They come in several styles with Round Brilliant being the most common. Other shapes include Princess, Emerald, and Oval.

Also consider where you're buying the diamond from. Not just any jewelry store will do. They are all unique and it's very easy to get ripped off if you don't know what you're looking for. A jewelry store should be GIA certified and it should have a good reputation with the BBB. Remember to look into these things because diamonds are expensive. Do your due diligence, just as you would with any other major purchase.
