The ability to upload and save a resume to a site has even made it so that recruiters can find you, rather than waiting for you to apply for the position.

If you are looking for management, engineering, or C-suite level positions, Ladders is a good place to start. It does not cater to lower-level jobs and workers, so that automatically narrows down options. All positions listed pay around $100K (some a little less, some a lot more). Each job listing has an estimated salary range provided by Ladders in the description. However, there are mixed reviews about the accuracy of their information.

You can narrow down positions in a certain state, then choose your role and specialty. When scrolling through job openings, some companies remain anonymous, but provide the city of operation. Others are more specific and give a comprehensive company background. All listings provide how many years of experience are needed to apply for the role. Some allow less than 5 years of experience, while others expect up to 15 years.

An account is needed to apply to any given position. There are options for a premium membership lasting 1 - 12 months. The cost ranges from $9.99/month to $29.99/month. Some advantages of paying for the premium membership are higher placements on recruiter lists, better job matching, and unlimited access to jobs that are not posted anywhere else. Paying for a membership and unlocking availability to all job postings signals to recruiters that candidates are serious about their job search. If you choose not to pay for the premium account, you can continue with the basic membership for free and gain limited access.

Something to consider is that many users complain that by paying for a premium membership they are bombarded with emails, given too broad of job list categories, find it hard to cancel their membership, and that the pay scale for the listed jobs is usually inaccurate. It has also been pointed out that some of the job postings are for positions that recruiters aren't necessarily planning to fill right away or the job listings are outdated.

For executive-level job seekers, Ladders seems like a good place to start. They expect candidates to take their search seriously, and in return provide high-end job listings. Just be cautious of inaccurate information. Nexxt aims to help job seekers move onto their "nexxt" career step. By allowing candidates to create a portfolio, read career advice, and use resume writing tools, they position job seekers to have a better chance of appealing to employers.

The site organizes postings by "focuses". You can narrow down options by career, local, diversity, or global focus. It's worth noting that the diversity focus allows job seekers to search specifically for veteran jobs, LGBTQ jobs, Hispanic jobs, jobs for women, jobs for retired seniors, etc. All of the drop-down options under the focuses will navigate you to an entirely different website specializing in your selection.

When comparing listings across job sites, we quickly noticed many job openings on other search engines that could not be found through Nexxt. The search criteria also does not stay specific to keywords and often brings up similar job titles to what you are looking for mingled with your specific search. Many of these jobs are also in cities located an hour or so away from the location searched and were posted months ago.

The user interface of Nexxt is nothing fancy. In fact, it is a bit dull and makes job searching less fun that it already is to begin with. All job postings through Nexxt end up linking to third-party sites for the application process, so each one tends to look a bit different. It is not required that you create an account with Nexxt to submit applications, which is nice for users who want to protect their privacy and avoid email alerts.

For users who want to create a free account, an email address is required and gives you access to build out your portfolio. With this saved to your account, Nexxt can help you attract recruiters and employers who are scouting to fill their open positions. For $24.99/month, you have the option of upgrading to a premium account - making you a featured applicant for employers searching the database. You also gain access to over 200,000 jobs that are posted to Twitter. We suggest trying your luck with the free version before paying for the premium account to see how necessary it is.

All in all, Nexxt is a good site for job seekers wanting to dip their toes into the job search and gain some additional advice along the way. Nexxt did not receive our highest ranking because the breadth of job listings does not hold up to other job sites we have reviewed. It also does not present information as professionally as some other search engine options.
