Lamps not only bring greater illumination to an office, living room, or bedroom, but they can also be a unique piece in your modern-day decor. From small desk lamps ideal for college students to ornate floor lamps used to make a bold statement, thereís a wide variety to choose from when looking for that additional lighting in a room.

However, if youíre looking for something specific, stores specializing in lamps are not often found. Customers are usually limited to the lackluster options found at their local hardware store or big-box retailer. Fortunately, with just a click of a mouse, shoppers can find thousands of lamps online - from functional to fancy to fabulous.

If you're looking for detail and innovation in your next lamp purchase, you'll want to check out Louie Lighting. Owner and Lighting Designer Arie Louie founded the store in 1993, which carries table and floor lamps from two dozen different manufacturers, including brands such as Artemide, Dimond, and Kenroy Home.

Although the online selection is already impressive, with over 1000 lamps from which to choose, you should contact the store directly if you are searching for a specific product or manufacturer. Because their selection is so broad, Louie Lighting doesn't display all of their available products on the website; we were impressed that they even offer to check their inventory or reach out to a manufacturer directly to try and fulfil their customers' wishes.

Customer service is easily available on weekdays during normal business hours (Arizona time zone) via email, live chat, and a toll-free number. The customer service representative with whom we spoke was very friendly and helpful.

Shipping is free on orders over $50 within the continental United States, which is relatively standard among online lamp retailers.

One benefit offered by Louie Lighting is the lack of a restocking fee on most returns on products selling for less than $2000. Some products do have a restocking fee that the manufacturer itself requires; those lamps will have this clearly explained in the product description.

Overall, Louie Lighting hopes that customers are delighted with their lamp purchase; but, if not, the return process is hassle-free, with a 30-day return period and 100% refund, minus the cost of shipping.

Louie Lighting maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, backed by numerous compliments on their website from happy customers. We think that you will similarly enjoy the experience shopping for your next lamp at Louie Lighting!

Bowery Lighting Company

BOWERY LIGHTING COMPANY

Visit Site

Bowery Lighting Company has been in business for more than 70 years, with a retail location in New York as well as an easy-to-use website. Customers shopping for lamps will find more than 2,000 different options, from basic reading lights to custom Tiffany accent and floor lamps.

The website is very easy to use. Shoppers can either narrow down the choices by lamp category, such as floor lamps or torchieres, or they can browse through all available lamps. Either route the customer chooses, the results can be sorted by price, number of lights in the lamp, finish, shade width/length, and many other features.

Pricing on the site is very competitive. In addition to a 110% price match guarantee (which must be requested prior to placing an order and will be issued in the form of store credit), many items we researched were priced at or well below their competitors by as much as 20%.

Bowery Lighting Company's returns policy is less customer-friendly than their competitors, however. There is a detailed list of exclusions and procedures that must be followed in order to qualify for a refund; some of those specifics include requirements that items be returned within 20 days of delivery, that orders must be under $2000, and more. Even if items are received damaged, customer service must be notified within five business days. We read reviews from several angry customers who had issues with returning items, both damaged and not.

On the other hand, we were pleased to see that their customer service department is very actively engaged in responding to negative reviews, doing their utmost to make it right when possible and explaining to the customer when a return is not allowed. Although some of the reviews expressed dissatisfaction with how Bowery Lighting handled the interaction, the responses we saw were polite, appropriate, and referred customers back to the company's posted policies when necessary. Other shoppers gave rave reviews to the personalized attention they received from representatives of Bowery Lighting Company; even over the phone, they were able to get guidance to help them choose the right lamp or other lighting product for their needs and to receive detailed updates for any delays in shipping.

Finally, shipping costs are a mixed bag. Orders over $49 ship for free, which includes most of the lamps in Bowery Lighting Company's inventory; but, you'll be looking at a flat rate fee of $15 if your order is less than $49. If you live in Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico, you actually have to provide your own shipping method or shipping account number for your order to be delivered.

Because Bowery Lighting Company strives to provide the best possible customer services and makes their representatives readily available via their toll-free number, we recommend that customers considering a lamp purchase give them a call to make sure that items are in stock and ask any additional questions they may have.

Continued from above

Online retailers of lamps often have prices that easily meet or beat what can be found in local brick-and-mortar stores, because they donít have the same overhead costs of most retail stores. Finding your next lamp online can save you time and money while bringing you the exact product you want, instead of settling for whatever may be available nearby.

What should you look for when buying lamps online? As you consider the various retailers on the market, keep the following in mind:

  • Selection. Does the store give you many different styles, brands, and price points to choose from?
  • Pricing. Is the retailer competitive with other stores? What is the typical cost of shipping?
  • Return Policy. If you need to return your lamp for some reason, will you be able to do so? Does the store charge a restocking fee?
  • Customer Service. How easily can you connect with a representative if you have questions before or after your order? Does the retailer have a good reputation for customer service with previous customers?
