Lamps not only bring greater illumination to an office, living room, or bedroom, but they can also be a unique piece in your modern-day decor. From small desk lamps ideal for college students to ornate floor lamps used to make a bold statement, thereís a wide variety to choose from when looking for that additional lighting in a room.

However, if youíre looking for something specific, stores specializing in lamps are not often found. Customers are usually limited to the lackluster options found at their local hardware store or big-box retailer. Fortunately, with just a click of a mouse, shoppers can find thousands of lamps online - from functional to fancy to fabulous.

LOUIE LIGHTING

If you're looking for detail and innovation in your next lamp purchase, you'll want to check out Louie Lighting. Owner and Lighting Designer Arie Louie founded the store in 1993, which carries table and floor lamps from two dozen different manufacturers, including brands such as Artemide, Dimond, and Kenroy Home.

Although the online selection is already impressive, with over 1000 lamps from which to choose, you should contact the store directly if you are searching for a specific product or manufacturer. Because their selection is so broad, Louie Lighting doesn't display all of their available products on the website; we were impressed that they even offer to check their inventory or reach out to a manufacturer directly to try and fulfil their customers' wishes.

Customer service is easily available on weekdays during normal business hours (Arizona time zone) via email, live chat, and a toll-free number. The customer service representative with whom we spoke was very friendly and helpful.

Shipping is free on orders over $50 within the continental United States, which is relatively standard among online lamp retailers.

One benefit offered by Louie Lighting is the lack of a restocking fee on most returns on products selling for less than $2000. Some products do have a restocking fee that the manufacturer itself requires; those lamps will have this clearly explained in the product description.

Overall, Louie Lighting hopes that customers are delighted with their lamp purchase; but, if not, the return process is hassle-free, with a 30-day return period and 100% refund, minus the cost of shipping.

Louie Lighting maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, backed by numerous compliments on their website from happy customers. We think that you will similarly enjoy the experience shopping for your next lamp at Louie Lighting!

Elite Fixtures

ELITE FIXTURES

Visit Site

Elite Fixtures offers nearly 50 brands of lamps, along with other home items such as light fixtures, furniture, and decor. Each time we visited the site, there was a popup discount offer, which varied from 10% off to $10 off any order. This would definitely be attractive to many customers.

The website makes it easy to search through the more than 4,000 lamps in their inventory. Customers can enter a product name or other keyword into the search box at the top of the page, or they can choose to filter by one of the four categories (table lamps, floor lamps, desk lamps, or torchiere), height, finish, price, and style, among others. Elite Fixtures was one of the only retailers in our review that included "Light Direction" in their filters: 360, ambient, directional, down, and so forth.

Another advantage of buying your next lamp from Elite Fixtures is the lack of restocking fees - some competitors charge as much as 40% when making a return. Elite allows returns within 30 days of delivery, and shipping costs are deducted from the refund.

Shipping is free for orders of $39 and above within the US. We noticed that the return policy on the website was contradictory - in one place indicating free shipping for orders at that level, and a few sentences later saying that there was a flat fee for orders under $100. The customer service representative with whom we spoke answered the phone promptly, thanked us for finding the error, and clarified that the shipping fees for under $100 only applied to Canadian customers. We also noticed that the live chat feature was active and popped up to offer help as we browsed the site, showing that Elite Fixtures is dedicated to being available for their customers.

This dedication is shown in the large number of positive customer reviews we found, describing how someone from Elite Fixtures went the extra mile to track down a discontinued item, made sure that a shipment arrived on time, or helped select the perfect lamp for a customer's need.

The only drawback we could find to ordering from Elite Fixtures was pricing. While many of the lamps they carry are priced the same as their competitors, several that we comparison shopped were priced as much as 30% higher than other retailers. Unlike many of the companies in our review, Elite Fixtures does not have a price match guarantee. On the other hand, some customer reviews indicate that Elite Fixtures was willing to work with individual customers on pricing, so we suggest that shoppers use the toll-free number or live chat to see if it's possible to get a discount on an item priced lower elsewhere.

Continued from above

Online retailers of lamps often have prices that easily meet or beat what can be found in local brick-and-mortar stores, because they donít have the same overhead costs of most retail stores. Finding your next lamp online can save you time and money while bringing you the exact product you want, instead of settling for whatever may be available nearby.

What should you look for when buying lamps online? As you consider the various retailers on the market, keep the following in mind:

  • Selection. Does the store give you many different styles, brands, and price points to choose from?
  • Pricing. Is the retailer competitive with other stores? What is the typical cost of shipping?
  • Return Policy. If you need to return your lamp for some reason, will you be able to do so? Does the store charge a restocking fee?
  • Customer Service. How easily can you connect with a representative if you have questions before or after your order? Does the retailer have a good reputation for customer service with previous customers?
