With such a variety of lighting options, it's nice that yLighting employs certified planners and designers to lend a hand with your lighting choice. yLighting's customer service team is available to assist 7 days a week via email, phone, or online chat. There are many customer review sites to look at, and, while finding mixed reviews for yLighting on sites with only a couple of reviews, we found much better overall reviews - higher than 90% satisfaction - on sites with a higher volume of reviews submitted.

They have a loyalty and referral program to encourage your return business and word-of-mouth, and with 144 brands of lighting to choose from, there is certainly something that will capture your interest. Many of their available brands, such as Feiss and Elk, have a 100-150% low price guarantee if you should find the same item available elsewhere for less.
They also offer free shipping on orders over $49, and many products have a one-week (or less!) delivery guarantee; if your delivery is late, 1 Stop Lighting returns a portion of your purchase cost. 1 Stop Lighting has customer service representatives ready to help you for up to fifteen hours a day via live chat or a toll-free number, compared with many other companies who are only available for a standard 8-hour business day.
Customers should note that 1 Stop Lighting has a 30-day return policy, and that they do charge a 20% restocking fee for all non-defective returns of specific manufacturers' products. That list is readily available on their website.
What prevents us from giving 1 Stop Lighting a higher rating was the inconsistency of prices on their website. For example, when searching for a Hunter ceiling fan (Model 59039), the price shown in the search results was $210.53; when we clicked on the item itself, however, the product screen showed a price of $198.95, and that price was $10 higher than other retailers'.
1 Stop Lighting could easily move to a higher rating once those site glitches are resolved, because of their excellent loyalty program and on-time delivery guarantees.
Wayfair has become very well-known in the home goods market; with its slogan of "a zillion things home" you would be right to expect that they are likely to carry just about anything you could dream of wanting for your house, lighting and much more.
Their search feature is very robust; items can be filtered by price and brand, among other criteria, and your results can be sorted by customer ratings, recommendation likelihood, or, once again, by price. Wayfair offers a much smaller selection of lighting brands at only seven total. However, their prices are competitive when comparing items across retailers.
Wayfair really hopes to gain your business with a wide variety of customer-pleasing features: free shipping on orders over $49 and a flat fee of $4.99 on all other orders, free shopping advice from renovation experts at their toll-free number, two-day delivery on nearly a half-million items in stock, 3% of your purchase price back in their automatic (free) rewards program, and a 30-day return policy through their self-service return center.
While all of these advantages make Wayfair very attractive, we can only give them a three-star rating because of the high number of customer complaints. While they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau for their resolution of such complaints filed, many consumer reviews on the BBB site describe dissatisfaction with Wayfair's product quality, slow or inaccurate delivery, and negative interactions with customer service representatives. More than 50% of customers surveyed by the BBB would not recommend Wayfair.
However, we know that it is rare for consumers to contact the BBB when they are completely satisfied and we know that Wayfair has a huge customer base, which can skew such review rates. So we give Wayfair a three-star rating for its highly competitive pricing and low shipping costs, with the recommendation that customers be proactive with any discrepancies in product quality or customer service issues.
Lighting for You falls in the middle of our reviewed lighting retailers, with a rating of three stars. Their product offerings are fairly limited; at the time of this review, they only offered lights (for example, no ceiling fans), and even in that category there were few items on the lower end of the price scale. Many product categories had no items listed at all, such as kids/themed chandeliers.
We did find a variety of products available in the higher-end products such as Swarovski chandeliers, and those were competitively priced against other sellers' listings. For example, a Swarovski Strass chandelier was priced at just over $4000, and, surprisingly, was $10 less than the same fixture offered by a major retailer.
Lighting for You does not have a very useful search feature; filtering results in a product category only allows you to sort by the first letter or number in the product name, not by price or any other relevant criteria. Shipping tends to be more expensive that most other lighting companies that we surveyed, with free shipping for orders over $100. Lighting for You also has a stricter return policy - 14 days compared with 30 at most retailers - and does charge a 20-40% restocking fee on returns. Customers are also expected to pay for the cost of shipping both ways when merchandise is returned.
We were also surprised to note that Lighting for You does not have a toll-free customer service number, nor does it offer a direct contact email for customer questions.
Because Lighting for You proved to be competitively priced in the higher-end market, we give it a three-star rating; this could be improved with better search capabilities and lower charges for restocking and shipping.
Even with a name like eFaucets (that might make you think of bathroom and kitchen sinks!), you'll find a surprising number of light fixtures and other lighting products for sale at this online retailer. From chandeliers to wall sconces and more, there are more than 40,000 items to choose from in a variety of styles, colors, and price points.
The website makes it simple to find the light fixture you need. If you already have an idea of what you're looking for, you can enter it into the traditional search box at the top of the page. Otherwise, you can choose a category of lighting, such as Outdoor Lighting, Pendant Lighting, Flush Mount Lights, and so forth; results can then be narrowed down according to brand, color, finish, price range, length, and more.
We found prices at eFaucets to be extremely competitive with other retailers. For instance, on a basic two-light bathroom sconce by Moen, eFaucets' price was $107.01, which matched several other retailers' listed price and beat several others.
eFaucets also has a price match guarantee, but shoppers may not realize that it only applies if requested prior to making a purchase. If you find the item priced lower at a competitor's website, you have to contact eFaucets' customer service department to request a price match and then you have to wait until you get their response. If you need a light fixture right away for a home improvement project or for a job, you may not have the time to wait for that price match to come through. Also, even though eFaucets claims to have a "Low Price Guarantee!", their disclaimer says that they don't actually guarantee that they have "the 'lowest price' online or offline", leaving us confused.
Customers complained about numerous issues with making returns to eFaucets. They do allow returns on items within 30 days of delivery, but customers should plan on paying restocking fees - starting at 15% and going up from there - which depend on the brand of the item being returned. When following those policies, shoppers have still had a hard time returning products, even when the fault appears to be from eFaucets shipping the wrong items.
Although the site says that they offer some of the "lowest shipping prices" on the market, we found that requiring orders to be at least $99 to get free shipping was not competitive with other retailers; many of eFaucet's competitors offer free shipping for much smaller orders. The site also does not provide a shipping quote for those smaller orders. Also, many customers experienced frustration with orders that were charged to their credit cards even though the items were actually out of stock, and that were frequently shipped late (by weeks or even months).
On the other hand, eFaucets does offer promotions and discounts that can make it more affordable to buy light fixtures; although described as a "two-day only sale", each time we visited eFaucets over several weeks, we found an offer for free shipping and a 5% discount on most orders.
Due to the numerous problems we found with eFaucet's policies and customer satisfaction, we give them 2.5 stars. Shoppers looking for a top-notch buying experience may want to look for light fixtures at one of the more highly-rated retailers in our review.
If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind, custom lighting product, Lamps Clinic may be the retailer for you. In business since 1993, Lamps Clinic operates out of its showroom location in San Marino, CA. Their claim to fame is the ability to create unique lighting for virtually any occasion; one special creation was a table lamp fashioned from a wedding champagne bottle.
Their overall product selection is sparse; they currently carry only 20 brands of lighting, and familiar manufacturers are not included in their inventory. If you are searching for a particular item, make sure to put your search string in quotation marks; we found that on a search of ceiling fan (without quotes), the first three-to-four pages didn't return a single ceiling fan even though Lamps Clinic did have them available.
Shipping costs may also be high: there are no posted shipping cost policies posted on the site, and while many mid-range items are listed as having free shipping, we found that the cost of ground shipping for a $15.99 light bulb was a staggering $15!
Lamps Clinic has a somewhat limited return period of 14 days, and they may charge a restocking fee of 10-20% on any merchandise returned. Be aware that if you are trying to contact Lamps Clinic's customer service, their toll-free number appears to be routed to an automated/computerized answering service that then routes you to the store itself.
While we are intrigued by Lamps Clinic's custom products, its overall lack of selection and potentially high shipping costs earn it a 2.5 star rating overall.
Elite Fixtures offers 93 brands of light fixtures, along with other home items such as water coolers, furniture, and decor. At the time of our review, their site had a "$10 off any order" pop-up on the main page, which would be attractive to many new customers.
Their website is easy to use, and their search function is useful and allows you to sort your results by a number of criteria on the left-hand side of the page (brand, price, and so forth).
Elite Fixtures stands out from most other online lighting retailers with no restocking fee on returns (compared with fees of up to 40% charged by competitors!) in a 30-day period. However, the shipping policy and fees posted on Elite Fixtures' website were contradictory.
In one place, they state that shipping is free on orders over $39 that are all going to one address; in another location, it states that any order under $100 is charged a flat shipping and handling fee. What was more disconcerting was that when we called their toll-free customer service number to request clarification, both of our calls were disconnected on their end, with a pre-recorded "Goodbye" message prior to the calls' termination.
Because of this, we can only give Elite Fixtures a two-star rating, though it would easily improve with better connection to their customer service department and clarification of their shipping fees.
Elite Home Style is an online retailer specializing in home decor. We were unable to find many products related to lighting; familiar brands like Hunter were not available, the chandelier page had zero items listed, and many of the pages that did have products were missing images. There were only 12 pendant fixtures and 18 table lamps, most without images. Wall sconces fared best, with 35 total products, and all with images.
We found it difficult to search for items by brand or feature on the main lighting page; there didn't appear to be a search box there, only product categories with images.
Elite Home Style does offer free shipping on orders of at least $100 within the lower 48 United States. They also do not charge sales tax on any orders outside of New Jersey.
Their 14-day return period is shorter than many other retailers who offer a 30-day timeframe, and where Elite Home Style really falls short in comparison with the rest of the market is with their restocking fee: a whopping 35% charged on all returns.
Because of their hefty restocking fees, very limited product selection, and inefficient search capabilities, we can only give Elite Home Style a 1.5-star rating.
