3 stars
Simply Lobsters

Two 2 lb live lobsters - $129

Simply Lobsters earns 3 stars an online seller of lobsters, seafood, shellfish and steaks. In addition to live lobsters, Simply Lobsters offers a variety of lobster options including culled lobsters, lobster meat, lobster tails, lobster rolls, steamer clams, gulf shrimp, snow crab claw and more.

Customers will be pleased with the variety offered on Simply Lobsters. They will also be pleased with the prices. Simply Lobsters offers live lobster for less than half the price of their competitors. Furthermore, to make their prices even more appealing, Simply Lobsters offers monthly specials on several of their menu items. Offering more than 20 packages on its monthly specials, ranging from dinner for one to party packages. At Simply Lobsters, you also have the option of ordering lobster in bulk. This is a great option for a special event, party or corporate event.

Though Simply Lobsters offers a variety of lobster, seafood and steak packages, none of their packages are complete dinners. You can order a few different items such as seafood pies, but you cannot order a lobster dinner complete with side dishes, appetizers and desserts. In fact, Simply Lobster has no side dishes, appetizer or desserts offered a la carte either. These are not necessary to make your dinner complete, but they are nice extras.

While Simply Lobster offers competitive discount prices, they offer no discount or free shipping options on any orders. When ordering 1 lobster, your shipping price is double the cost of the lobster. Shipping and packaging costs for Next Day Air start at $34.99. They ship their products via Federal Express to all fifty states.

Simply Lobster also offers larger packages for special events, parties and corporate events. Orders over $2,000 are handled by a sales representative who works with you personally. This is a great benefit if you're planning a large event or are planning a large corporate giving program.

Simply Lobsters provides a wonderful selection of lobster choices but misses the mark on shipping costs and side dishes. While lobster prices are reasonable at this company, the shipping charges eliminate any savings potential.

Fine Lobster

Two 1lb live lobsters - $57.59 to $63.99

Fine Lobster offers a selection of lobster and other seafood options which may be ordered online and delivered to your door. Live lobsters are available in 1 - 5 pound size in packages of 2, 4 or 6.

Fine Lobster sends the lobster overnight in a styrofoam cooler so it's fresh upon arrival. They advise that the live lobster be cooked the day it is received. All of their live lobster orders come with lobster crackers, bibs, clarified butter and wet naps.

Fine Lobster also offers a variety of other entree items for order and delivery. Among the seafood items Fine Lobster offers there are Canadian Lobster Tails, Caribbean Spiney Lobster Tails, West Australian Tails, Gulf Shrimp, Louisiana Crawfish and Alaskan King Crab.

The prices are slightly lower than some of the other companies reviewed. You can also sign up for Find Lobster's newsletter and receive notification of sales, promotions and coupons. They also offer free shipping on all orders over $100 and a money back guarantee if you're not satisfied with your order. However, live lobsters must be sent next day and prices range around $50 per delivery. For orders over $100, the overnight cost was still $55.00. Note that to receive a refund you have to return the contents of the package you ordered.

While Fine Lobster has lower prices than similar companies, they have a few areas in which they fall short of their competitors. First, in comparison to others, they have a limited menu selection. Fine Lobster has a fair number of lobster and seafood entree items, but they do not offer a menu selection that includes entire meals nor does their menu include many a la carte items such as appetizers, desserts and chowders.

Their menu is primarily limited to entree items. Second, Fine Lobster sometimes requires a 48 hour notice before they can fill an order for shipment. When you're ordering food items that are shipped overnight live, so you can enjoy them the next day, it seems wrong to have to wait 48 hours before they are even shipped. Lastly, Live Lobster offers gift certificates for sale but does not offer gift packages or corporate gift packages as other similar companies do.

We give Fine Lobster a below average rating due to menu constraints, overnight shipping costs and potential shipping delays.
