Automatic Fall Detection coverage is also available for an extra $9.95/month.
  • GPS Alert System: starting at $29.95/month plus a one-time GPS device fee of $49, this system uses a lightweight, portable call button with a built-in speaker, which can go for up to 72 hours on a single charge. This system uses GPS and AT&T's cellular network to locate the user in real-time and provide assistance wherever they are. If needed, Auto Fall Detection is an additional $9.95/month. If you'd like to allow a caregiver or other trusted person to track the wearer's location through an online tracking portal, or to set up geofencing for SMS/email notifications if the wearer leaves a given area, you can add Caregiver Tracking for $4.95/month. Bay Alarm Medical also recommends this system for use with children who take the bus or walk home from school alone, giving them 24/7 push-button assistance in case of any emergency.
  • In-Home + GPS Bundle: save 20% ($39.95/month) when you combine the two packages. You'll get everything in the In-Home and GPS packages; you will still need to pay additional fees if you need cellular service in the home, or if you want the Caregiver Tracking and/or Auto Fall Detection upgrades.
  • In-Car Medical Alert: for $29.95 and a one-time device fee of $49, this plan offers GPS tracking, crash response, driving status updates, and medical help at the push of a button. The device, known as "splitsecnd", uses the same 12v plug you'd use for a USB charger (what you may think of as the cigarette lighter area), so it can be used in any vehicle. The app provided with the plan allows for real-time tracking, trip information and routes, and includes driver profiles that allow first responders to have medical information available before they arrive on the scene. This plan is an alternative to built-in services like OnStar, and can be used to provide teen drivers, as well as elderly ones, with extra protection while on the road.

For the services that include wearable help buttons, these devices have a range of 1000 feet, which covers most living areas - including the front and back yards. You may also want to consider accessories for your system, such as a lockbox to provide emergency responders with access to a key (so that there's no damage to your home during a forced entry) or a wireless wall button in high-risk fall areas.

All of the pricing is contract-free, and other than the one-time fees listed, you won't pay anything for your equipment. You can save extra money by choosing a quarterly or 6-month payment plan, and discounts may be available if you're a member of USAA or another partner organization. Finally, be sure to check for current promotions; at the time of our review, there was a seasonal sale with significant savings over their regular prices.v

  • In-Home Alert: starting at $19.95/month, this system uses a landline to connect users to their 24/7 monitoring center. The waterproof, wearable pendant-style panic button has a 600-foot range from the base station. If you'd like a system that automatically detects falls, you can choose the system that includes that feature for $30.95/month. The ResponseLINK site doesn't specify whether that system uses a landline, but the equipment photos look exactly like the In-Home system - so it's probably safe to assume you'll need a landline.
  • Mobile Alert: starting at $30.95/month, this system uses a device that looks something like an old-style pager and uses GPS location through the T-Mobile cellular network to provide help wherever the person goes.

We weren't thrilled to see that the ResponseLINK site proudly proclaims an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, because the BBB site showed a lower grade of just "A". Most of the complaints there centered around their sister site, Alert1, which offers several equipment/service plans not available through ResponseLINK.

One frequent area of complaint is billing. You can save money by paying for your medical alert service annually or semi-annually, but buyer beware: we found many customers complaining that they were not able to get a refund for unused months if they had to cancel the service (e.g. if the user passed away or entered hospice care). You can only get ResponseLINK's "30 day risk-free money-back guarantee" on service plans paid in advance, not monthly billing, but for many customers that just means a big fight with customer service to actually get their prepaid money back.

Seniors and their caregivers need the best technology combined with excellent customer service and hassle-free billing. ResponseLINK's medical alert systems fall very short in all three of those criteria. We strongly suggest you choose a more customer-friendly service provider.
