Who has the best Mobility Scooters? For those with difficulties getting around at home or in public, mobility scooters are the most popular way of helping them stay active and engaged in life. From simplifying shopping trips to making it possible to get safely from one room to another, mobility scooters make it possible to stay independent even when users are managing difficult health conditions that affect their mobility.

When deciding which mobility scooter is right for you or for a loved one, the first consideration is what it will be used for. For example, the type of scooter you'd buy for someone who will use it primarily indoors is vastly different from what would be necessary for long trips outside. Another factor to consider is weight and portability: will you need to be able to lift it into a van or other vehicle for transport?

All Electric Scooters

ALL ELECTRIC SCOOTERS Visit Site

Cost:

From $649 to $3,999

As you can tell from the name, All Electric Scooters focuses on mobility scooters and their related accessories, like ramps, lifts, and trailers. In business for nearly two decades, this NC-based retailer carries scooters manufactured by AmeriGlide, Golden, and Pride.

The site is not the most polished in the industry; we spotted some broken links and images, and the navigation isn't the smoothest. You'll need to have an idea of what type of scooter you want in order to start browsing your options: Travel, 3-Wheel, 4-Wheel, or Heavy Duty.

Once you've selected the scooter type, you'll get a list of the available models in that category. Although there's no way to sort them by price or features, you can click the checkbox next to the models that interest you and then select the Compare button at the top. That will allow you to compare them side-by-side in terms of their specifications.

After you add a mobility scooter to your cart, you can select the options you want: everything from color to seat width/depth/type.

You'll notice that many of the mobility scooters have a button that says, "Get a special offer for this item." If you want to get a discount, you'll have to enter your email address for a code to apply to your order.

On some of their products, All Electric also offers a 200% Lowest Price Guarantee. This applies to adult mobility scooters, vehicle lifts, and scooter accessories, either within 10 days of your purchase or prior to placing an order.

You'll also get free shipping and free batteries on all mobility scooters. That could be a significant savings compared with some of the competition.

This retailer might seem familiar, if you've browsed the others in our review: All Electric Scooters is a sister brand of US Medical Supplies, owned by the same parent company. This means that both businesses share a "B" rating with the Better Business Bureau. You might not think a "B" grade is bad, but when it comes to the BBB it typically means that there have been unresolved issues.

What are some of those problems? We found quite a few complaints that talked about extremely late delivery (over a month after ordering), defective products, and concerns with installation/assembly of larger items like scooters and wheelchair lifts. What was more troubling was the tone of All Electric Scooters' customer service representatives: defensive, curt, and even dismissive. We're not sure why they claim to have "top-rated customer support" when what we've seen is anything but.

That negativity matters, because most of their mobility scooters have an in-home warranty. Can you trust them to service your scooter in your home if they're so unfriendly to their customers?

All Electric has some perks that are attractive, like the 200% Price Match and free shipping on all scooters, but they come up short when it comes to treating their customers well after the purchase.

US Medical Supplies

US MEDICAL SUPPLIES Visit Site

Cost:

From $829 to $5,799

US Medical Supplies has been in business since 2004 and is headquartered in Raleigh, NC. This store offers a good range of mobility scooters:

  • Styles: 3- and 4-wheel styles, including travel and heavy-duty models
  • Brands: AmeriGlide, Golden, Pride, and EWheels

The easiest way to sort through the options is to use the Scooter Wizard on the right side of the page. You can specify what kind of suspension your mobility scooter should have, the user weight capacity, and some of the desired features (e.g. captain's chair, lights, flat-free tires). Alternately, if you already know what style of scooter you need, you can click on that category right on the main page.

We like how each product has a tab for Available Options, next to the Product Description and Product Specs. Do you want a scooter that's Candy Apple Red or Viper Blue? How about an extra-wide seat? You'll be able to select those here, and you'll see which options are included for no extra charge vs. those that will cost you extra.

In order to get the best price on your scooter, you'll have to contact US Medical Supplies: you'll see "Special Offer" buttons throughout the site, inviting you to provide your email address or call their toll-free number to find out what you'll pay. That seems like an unnecessary hoop to jump through.

US Medical Supplies gives you free shipping (in the lower 48 states) on all scooter orders. They also offer a Low-Price Guarantee: if another vendor has the same item at a lower price, they'll either match the price when you order, or they'll refund 110% of the price difference within 10 days of your purchase. Unfortunately, this perk may not apply to your scooter; according to their Guarantee page, you'll have to look for an image of a woman holding a "Low Price Guarantee" sign to know if your item is eligible, and most of the scooters we saw didn't have that.

If you've looked at the other stores in our review, you might think that this retailer looks familiar: US Medical Supplies is owned and operated by the same parent company as All Electric Scooters. Both stores share a BBB rating of an unimpressive "B" - in school, a "B" grade is pretty good, but in the business world it indicates that there have been issues worth noting.

In reading through the customer reviews and complaints at the BBB, we weren't impressed with the way US Medical Supplies' representatives responded: often with a tone that was argumentative and definitely not "the customer is always right". Those complaints frequently mentioned very late delivery (more than a month after placing an order), faulty products, and poor assembly/installation of large-ticket items.

That lackluster approach to customer service matters, especially since US Medical Supplies' mobility scooters typically come with a free 1-year in-home parts and labor service contract. What good does that perk do if the service itself is poor?

This retailer's return policy on mobility scooters is vague at best. Their policy states that you'll pay a $50 cancellation fee if you cancel your order before it ships, but it doesn't say specifically what happens if you receive your scooter and want to return it. The most closely-related product they sell is a power wheelchair; the return policy for those, for any reason other than defects or damages, gives you 10 days to decide, a $100 outbound freight charge, and a 15% restocking fee.

While we like the selection and site functionality that US Medical Supplies offers, we're less than impressed with their customer service, vague policies, and the requirement to contact them for the lowest prices. We think you'll probably have a better overall experience with a mobility scooter retailer that has a stronger reputation.

And, of course, you'll need to keep in mind the needs of the person who will be using the mobility scooter; factors like size, ability to use one or both hands, and other personal characteristics can impact which scooters are a good match.

Because so many of the industry's top retailers of mobility scooters have online stores, you can easily find the right one without even leaving home. For people with challenges getting around, this is a huge plus. As you consider which store to use for your scooter investment, here are several factors to bear in mind:

  • Price. What will you spend to buy your scooter from this retailer? Will you pay for shipping/delivery? Are there any discounts available that can make your purchase more affordable?
  • Selection. How many scooters does the company carry? Are they all available, or are there models that are regularly out of stock? Do they have a variety of styles and features to choose from?
  • Policies. Does the retailer offer a satisfaction guarantee, return policy, or warranty coverage? If you get a warranty, will you have to bring the scooter to a repair facility for service, or can they send someone to you?
  • Reputation. What do customers have to say about their experience with the business? Is it rated and/or accredited by the BBB?
  • TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Mobility Scooter stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the right mobility scooter to maintain your active, healthy lifestyle!
