Who has the best Mobility Scooters? For those with difficulties getting around at home or in public, mobility scooters are the most popular way of helping them stay active and engaged in life. From simplifying shopping trips to making it possible to get safely from one room to another, mobility scooters make it possible to stay independent even when users are managing difficult health conditions that affect their mobility.

When deciding which mobility scooter is right for you or for a loved one, the first consideration is what it will be used for. For example, the type of scooter you'd buy for someone who will use it primarily indoors is vastly different from what would be necessary for long trips outside. Another factor to consider is weight and portability: will you need to be able to lift it into a van or other vehicle for transport?

CWI Medical

CWI MEDICAL Visit Site

Cost:

From $699 to $3,949

Over the past few years, CWI Medical has more than doubled their selection of mobility scooters. While their selection still consists of a single brand, Drive Medical, they now carry 16 different styles ranging from 3-wheel transportable models to heavy-duty 4-wheel options.

They've also improved their website functionality. Before, there was no way to sort through the scooters they sell. Now, you can look on the left side of the page and sort by 3-wheeled, 4-wheeled, or heavy duty. You can also sort your results - or all of the available models - by price; that feature is accessible on the right side, above the list of products that match your criteria.

When you find a mobility scooter that interests you, be sure to scroll down for all of the information related to the product. There's a description of features, a tab for more technical specifications such as scooter weight and maximum user weight, and so on. A few of the scooters carried by CWI Medical also have verified customer reviews, which can give you an even better picture of how they work in real life.

Shipping costs are average. On all orders over $599, the fee is calculated at order checkout; on an order of the lowest-priced mobility scooter, you'd pay $62.91 for delivery via FedEx Ground.

You may be able to save money with a discount offer; when we visited the CWI site, we got a pop-up giving us $5 off with a coupon code. CWI Medical also has a customer rewards program; once you register for an account, you'll automatically earn 2% back on every $10 you spend. That might make it worth it to buy your mobility scooter first, and then place a second order for any accessories you need (or vice-versa).

Unfortunately, this store's return policy has not changed. Power Scooters are still non-returnable if you've assembled them. You are only eligible for a refund within 30 days if your scooter is unassembled, and you'll be charged a 15% restocking fee if the box has been opened. There was no mention of any warranty coverage.

CWI Medical has a good reputation, with an "A+ rating and accreditation by the Better Business Bureau. Shoppers are also happy with the overall experience of buying from this store.

We're happy to see all of the improvements that this retailer has made: expanded inventory, easier-to-use site for shopping, and product reviews to help guide customers in choosing the right mobility scooter. But, with such a limited return policy and a selection with only one brand of scooter, CWI Medical still doesn't compete with the highest-ranked stores in the industry.

Mobility Ready

Cost:

From $569 to $4,349

Mobility Ready is a small, third-party retailer of mobility scooters, power wheelchairs, lift chairs, and accessories. Their selection includes a wide range of brands, from familiar names like Shoprider and Pride to smaller manufacturers like RMB and Green Bike USA.

Although you can sort through their inventory by price, name, and date added, the easiest way to start is by choosing what type of mobility scooter you need. Using the links on the left side of the page, you can go directly to 3- or 4-wheel models, styles that fold, or heavy-duty mobility scooters.

When you've selected a scooter, you'll see at a glance what customization options are available - from colors, to throttle side, even any free extras like cup holders. Shipping is free within the continental US, and most scooters have an expected delivery timeframe of 3-10 business days.

Because Mobility Ready ships scooters directly from the manufacturer, there are limits to what you can expect once you've received your order. Here are some of the more interesting ones:

  • "Shipping damage is a common thing with all shipping carriers. We will not issue refunds if boxes are refused because of box damage."
  • "We do not issue refunds for cosmetic blemishes from shipping. We will ship out replacement parts and paint. Replacement parks orders typically take between 1-3 weeks to fulfill."
  • Mobility Ready doesn't offer its own satisfaction guarantee. Instead they rely on the "Norton Shopping Guarantee" - where you'd have to make a claim to Norton within 30 days of the date you purchased your mobility scooter.
  • All warranties are strictly those offered by the manufacturer, so you'll need to read each brand's terms and conditions to know what coverage you'll get. This also applies to returns; despite advertising the "Best Return Policy" as a reason for shopping with them, Mobility Ready doesn't actually offer anything exceptional.

At the time of our review, we didn't find a listing for Mobility Ready with the Better Business Bureau. Customer comments around the web were similarly hard to find: just handful on the retailer's website itself and a handful of others in various places. Most of those were positive, but with a purchase as large as a mobility scooter, most customers want to know that a store has a strong reputation for customer service before and after the order is delivered.

For that reason, along with the limits we described above, Mobility Ready does not earn a top ranking among scooter stores. We hope to see more from them in the future, but for the time being, we can only give them two stars.

And, of course, you'll need to keep in mind the needs of the person who will be using the mobility scooter; factors like size, ability to use one or both hands, and other personal characteristics can impact which scooters are a good match.

Because so many of the industry's top retailers of mobility scooters have online stores, you can easily find the right one without even leaving home. For people with challenges getting around, this is a huge plus. As you consider which store to use for your scooter investment, here are several factors to bear in mind:

  • Price. What will you spend to buy your scooter from this retailer? Will you pay for shipping/delivery? Are there any discounts available that can make your purchase more affordable?
  • Selection. How many scooters does the company carry? Are they all available, or are there models that are regularly out of stock? Do they have a variety of styles and features to choose from?
  • Policies. Does the retailer offer a satisfaction guarantee, return policy, or warranty coverage? If you get a warranty, will you have to bring the scooter to a repair facility for service, or can they send someone to you?
  • Reputation. What do customers have to say about their experience with the business? Is it rated and/or accredited by the BBB?
  • TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Mobility Scooter stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the right mobility scooter to maintain your active, healthy lifestyle!
