Pricing at Luxury Perfume is slightly higher than many of its competitors. For example, the 4 oz. Polo by Ralph Lauren eau de toilette is sold for $63.90, while at least two other retailers sell it for less than $60. We also noticed a number of products that were listed as sold out.
The website itself is somewhat clunky. When looking at it on a smaller screen, the search bar covers up the logo, for instance. Also, products can only be sorted alphabetically by brand or searched for directly; there is no feature to narrow down options by price, hot trends/brands, and so forth.
The return policy at Luxury Perfume is reasonable: unopened items can be returned within 30 days of receipt for a full refund, and open/used products can be returned for a refund with a 20% restocking fee charged.
Shipping is free for all orders over $59 within the 48 contiguous United States. Luxury Perfume is one of the few retailers we found that does offer worldwide shipping as well; prices vary depending on the order's destination and the number of products in the package.
A few aspects of Luxury Perfume's site had us scratching our heads. We were excited to see that they are one of only three retailers in our review to offer a membership loyalty program - but other than the "Membership Loyalty" box in the middle of the home page (that didn't go anywhere when we clicked on it), we could find no further information.
Also, at the bottom of the home page, there is a rotating series of photos and testimonials; we thought that some of the individuals pictured looked familiar. We were not impressed to discover that the images were taken from online articles at Forbes and other places, and then attributed to different customer names (for example, the photo for "Brian Peterson" actually came from a story on Tomas Laurinavicius, the founder of a magazine for design entrepreneurs). This raises questions about the authenticity of the site itself.
On the other hand, while some customers have expressed concerns over product packaging (having received bottles that were leaky or even broken) and fragrances that don't smell like the original they were expecting, other reviews rave about receiving excellent customer service. This is particularly true when a fragrance went out of stock between the time of the order and the expected ship date; many shoppers said that Luxury Perfume went the extra mile to either refund the order and provide a discount for a future order, or even to send the product in a larger size for no extra cost.
Overall, Luxury Perfume seems to want to please its customers, but the results may be somewhat hit or miss.
Perfume Worldwide has very competitive pricing within the Perfume market. When we searched for a basic, popular men's cologne - the 4 oz. Polo by Ralph Lauren eau de toilette - we found that their price of $60.99 was only slightly higher than the lowest-priced retailers and well below the list price of $74.99. Shipping costs are also reasonable; while not posted anywhere obvious on the site, we found that no matter what we put into the cart, our shipping stayed at a flat $5.99 for ground shipping within the US.
Shoppers can find what they're looking for without much hassle. There's a basic keyword search box at the top of the page, with a navigation bar that includes drop-down menus for Fragrances, Gift Sets, Bath & Body products, Hair Care, Skin Care, Cosmetics, Candles, Accessories, and New Arrivals. There are additional drop-down menus that allow the products to be selected by Designer, Category, and desired Price Range. The look of the site is not as polished as some of the others we reviewed, but it gets the job done.
Perfume Worldwide does offer a "try before you buy" program, with fragrance samples sold for the low price of $2.99, including shipping. At the time of our review, however, there were no eligible sample fragrances available.
If a customer wants to make a return, this retailer's policy requires that items be completely unused and intact (including the cellophane wrapping that typically comes with a perfume or cologne box), and the return must be within 20 days of the order's shipping date. Perfume Worldwide does issue a 20% restocking fee when the reason for the return is due to customer error. We did find several customer reviews where an order was incorrect on the company's side (such as, one shopper ordered one bottle but was sent three), but the customer was still charged a restocking fee.
Along those lines, many customers report receiving products that were damaged in shipment, such as leaky or broken bottles, and not getting a helpful response from Perfume Worldwide's customer service department. Also, more than one shopper claimed that the fragrances they received did not smell the same as the original, raising the issue of whether or not the products sold on the site are authentic.
On the positive side, Perfume Worldwide has a respectable A- rating with the Better Business Bureau, indicating that at least some of their customer issues were resolved in a manner that was appropriate and professional.
Overall, Perfume Worldwide's low prices are a definite plus, but the issues we found (such as returns and poor packaging, among others) make them a less competitive retailer among the sellers we reviewed.
To help you find the Best Perfume Stores, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of Luxury Perfume and PErfume Worldwide.
Most perfume and cologne is purchased at big name department stores. Like all products sold in these stores, a healthy premium is added to all the perfumes sold in order to offset the costs of operating such a large store. Outside of the expensive mark-up you also have to deal with the driving, parking lots, long lines and the lack of help that exists in department stores today. Instead, many savvy shoppers have discovered an alternative to the traditional high priced, inconvenient approach - shopping for perfume online.
Every year, more people are buying their perfume and cologne from online perfume stores. These stores allow you to purchase your favorite perfume or cologne in the convenience of your home and at a discounted price. Depending on the state you reside in, you will probably be able to avoid sales tax. Many stores even offer free shipping, depending on the amount of your total purchase.
When looking for an online perfume store you'll want to consider a few factors before making a purchase. Some of these include:
