THE PERFUME SPOT

Upon first visiting the site, The Perfume Spot looks like an outdated web store design. Navigation to find what you're looking for is a bit clumsy, and they don't offer nearly the range of search options provided by the other sites in our review.

On the plus side, The Perfume Spot does offer authentic, brand-name perfumes and colognes. They also provide a selection of Bath & Body products and Hair Care items as well. Many of these products are indeed offered at discounts from what you could find at traditional retail stores. They have served over 2 million customers, and have earned awards for outstanding customer service. They also offer a 30-day money back guarantee for any unused items that you receive.

However, The Perfume Spot comes up short when compared with other online discount perfume stores in some important areas. First, they provide only a minimum of search facilities to help you find your desired perfume. While they offer an alphabetical list of the fragrances they sell, missing are some of the convenient options we've seen elsewhere, such as search by price, by top sellers, and by gift sets.

Also, while The Perfume Spot offers free shipping, we were disappointed to discover that it only takes effect on purchases of $79 or more.

While The Perfume Spot offers quality products at discounted prices, their lack of search options and high free shipping requirement drops them in our ratings.

PERFUMES NY

Despite the name, Perfumes NY is based in Miami and has been in business since 2005. According to their "About Us" page, they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, but we were unable to verify that information ourselves.

Many aspects of Perfumes NY's website left us with questions. First, when comparing a basic cologne - Polo by Ralph Lauren eau de toilette in the 4 oz. size - we found that their price was actually above list: $80.80 vs. $80.00. This was much higher than other retailers' average price of about $60. A large number of the products listed on the site had no images, and were shown as "image coming soon". Given that the image on the side of the site was advertising the "Summer 2015 Cosmetics Collection" in 2016, we probably wouldn't hold our breath on those images being added!

We also tried giving a call to both of the customer service numbers listed on the site. We got a Google voice answering service, and no one picked up the call. Looking a little deeper, we found that the number was also listed as the customer service for a web development business, and the company address came up as a residential location in South Florida. In all likelihood, Perfumes NY does not carry its own inventory but rather works as a drop shipper (operating as a middleman between warehouses and customers). That's not necessarily a negative thing, but customers should be aware of this fact if they're expecting a traditional perfume retailer.

We also were confused by the rotating deals bar at the top of the page. On the day of our review, it said "Today! SITEWIDE Sale 20% OFF All Products: No", making us wonder if there was actually a sale or not. It was also advertising a "Happy Wednesday Sale", even though our review was completed on a different day of the week.

Shipping costs were equally conflicting. On the sidebar of the site, it says that shipping is free for orders over $59, but in the small text near the bottom of the page, it says "We deliver all of our products to our clients which will beof [typo] absolutely free shipping."

Finally, we were not able to find any customer reviews - positive or negative - anywhere.

We're left feeling like Perfumes NY is a mystery, and not necessarily one that we'd like to solve. We give them low marks and suggest that you take a look at one of the more established perfume retailers in our review.

Perfume Stores

To help you find the Best Perfume Stores, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of The Perfume Spot and Perfumes NY.

Most perfume and cologne is purchased at big name department stores. Like all products sold in these stores, a healthy premium is added to all the perfumes sold in order to offset the costs of operating such a large store. Outside of the expensive mark-up you also have to deal with the driving, parking lots, long lines and the lack of help that exists in department stores today. Instead, many savvy shoppers have discovered an alternative to the traditional high priced, inconvenient approach - shopping for perfume online.

Every year, more people are buying their perfume and cologne from online perfume stores. These stores allow you to purchase your favorite perfume or cologne in the convenience of your home and at a discounted price. Depending on the state you reside in, you will probably be able to avoid sales tax. Many stores even offer free shipping, depending on the amount of your total purchase.

When looking for an online perfume store you'll want to consider a few factors before making a purchase. Some of these include:

  • Selection. Does the perfume store offer a wide selection of perfume and cologne?
  • Shipping. Does the perfume store charge a reasonable fee for sending you your purchase?
  • Return Policy. What if you're not satisfied with your perfume or cologne once it arrives? Can you return it for a full refund?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best perfume stores available today. We hope this information helps you make your next perfume purchase!
