Pet Insurance in Arkansas

Arkansas MapDid you know that Arkansas is first in the nation when it comes to owning dogs? 47.9% of Arkansas households count Rover as a part of the family. The state is seventh in America when looking at overall pet ownership, with 62.4% of households owning any kind of pet. If you are one of the many people who have a four-legged friend, you know firsthand the joy that comes from having an animal companion.

However, you may also be well aware of the costs that accompany pet ownership; from the basic supplies such as dog food and cat toys, to the more extreme expenses that come from illness or injuries, you know that it can be expensive to keep your furry friends healthy. From benign skin masses to cancer, procedures can range in price from $200 to amounts in excess of $8,000. Unfortunately, you might have even had to choose between an extraordinarily expensive medical procedure and putting your pet to sleep.

Pet insurance is one way to avoid such difficult decisions. While you should be aware that pet insurance works differently from health insurance for people, it can help defray some of the costs incurred when animals need treatment. If you are shopping for a pet insurance plan, make sure to compare deductibles, annual expense limits, and out-of-pocket costs to find the plan that best meets your needs. Some policies may also exclude certain breeds (e.g. pit bulls, Lhasa Apsos, Rottweilers) or offer only limited coverage; pre-existing or hereditary conditions may also not be covered. Make sure to research any exclusions in plans you are considering.
