Pet Insurance in Michigan

Michigan MapPet insurance is helping many companion animals to get the treatments they need to save their lives. Advances in veterinary medicine are making it possible for pets to have surgery or other care that would have been impossible just a few years earlier. Pet owners often want to do everything they can to keep their furry friends around as long as possible, and they are grateful for new ways to extend their pets' lives. However, such treatments do come at a price, and pet insurance can make it possible for pet owners to help their four-legged family members without having to go into debt to do so.

Such coverage is similar to health care policies held by people in that there are usually deductibles, monthly premiums, and sometimes a network of veterinarians and clinics that must be used in order to have costs covered. Pet insurance does have some significant differences from human coverage: plans covering pets are allowed to exclude pre-existing and congenital conditions from the list of what they cover, certain breeds may only receive limited coverage (such breeds may include chow chows, Rottweilers, and pit bulls), and even elderly pets can be denied coverage.

But, pet insurance can generally help owners protect their pets in the event of a major illness or injury, even though policies tend to cover a percentage of costs incurred rather than the entire bill. While that may not seem to offer much of an advantage, when some procedures can cost more than $1000 (e.g. torn cartilage in a dog, $2666; cancer of the liver in a dog, $8540; cancer of the mouth in a cat, $1100), having a large portion of the costs covered by a pet insurance policy can mean the difference between having a pet receive treatment and choosing to have it put to sleep.
