Pet Insurance in Nebraska

Nebraska MapA recent survey showed that more than 50% of all Nebraska households have at least one pet. Dog and cat owners alike can benefit from pet insurance policies offered in Nebraska to help pay for expensive treatments and procedures at the veterinarian's office. While such surgeries and other care can often save a beloved pet's life, they do often come at a hefty price. For instance, cancer of the spleen is one of the top 10 conditions that require surgery; the average cost to perform this surgery on a dog is $1,874.85. Removing a malignant skin mass in a cat - the sixth most common surgically-remedied condition for felines - can result in a bill of more than $1,500.

As Nebraskans shop for pet insurance, they should first consider whether they would prefer to pay higher premiums now or higher veterinarian bills later. Naturally, people can pay for routine care - spaying and neutering, vaccinations, annual check-ups and tests, and so forth - out of pocket on a regular basis and save pet insurance for more catastrophic conditions; on the other hand, some pet owners prefer the peace of mind that comes from knowing that no matter what may happen at the veterinarian's office, a significant portion will be paid by the pet insurance policy.

With either approach, pet insurance may not cover pre-existing conditions, elderly pets, or certain congenital defects; in addition, owners of Rottweilers, chow chows, and Lhasa Apsos, among other breeds, may find that the only coverage available to them is limited in scope. It is important to carefully review the terms of any policy considered to make sure it most effectively meets the needs of the pet and its owner.
