Pet Insurance in Washington

Washington MapWashington State is sixth in the nation when it comes to pet ownership: 62.7% of all households claim at least one Rover or Fluffy as part of the family. Pet owners know very well that having a furry friend can bring love, companionship, and even improved health; well-known studies have demonstrated that owners of pets tend to enjoy better health than those who do not.

Loving pet owners place a great deal of importance on keeping their feline and canine companions as healthy as possible, and progress in modern veterinary medicine is making it more likely than ever that pets will live long lives. However, these advances come at a cost; where in the past a condition like cancer might have meant putting a beloved pet to sleep to ease its suffering, now cancer is one of the most common ailments to be treated successfully with surgery, often with resulting veterinary bills that total in the hundreds if not the thousands. For example, one of the ten most reported surgeries in dogs is for the eradication of liver cancer, and an average bill is more than $8,500.

Fortunately, many Washington animal lovers are benefitting from pet insurance, which can defray the costs of most veterinary expenses that pet owners can incur. These plans offer affordable coverage for a wide variety of conditions; monthly premiums and annual deductibles do vary depending on the breadth of the policy. Pet lovers searching for suitable plans should notice whether or not the plans they consider will cover pre-existing conditions, as pet insurance providers are not mandated to provide such coverage. Additionally, owners of elderly pets or a few specific dog breeds such as chow chows or pit bulls may find that they are unable to obtain any coverage at all, so it is worthwhile to carefully research pet insurance policies to make sure that pets' needs will truly be met by any plan selected.
