Best Photo Books

Where is the best place to create and buy photo books? Photo books are a great way to compile memories in a more tangible way than storing all your pictures online or in boxes. They make for great anniversary gifts, birthday presents, or even just yearly projects to keep on your coffee table for easy browsing.

It is also not uncommon for photo books to be made with wedding photos and/or engagement photos for guests to sign at wedding receptions. Needless to say, photo books are something most of us will be making at some point in our lifetime.

Vista Print

VISTA PRINT

Vistaprint is a custom photo printing company that was founded to help small businesses with their marketing materials. Now individuals or businesses can use their services for photo books, cards, clothing and bags, wall art, gifts, signs, labels, invitations, and more. We found Vistaprint's photo book selection to be simple and, unfortunately, lacking any themed layouts to help customers with creating their products. If you want to make a photo book here, you'll have to create it from a blank slate.

PICABOO

Picaboo is a simple photo book designing website. Their platform is easy to use, so even inexperienced photo book creators will be able make something here without much hassle. If you're looking for fancy page decor and a variety of themes to choose from so you don't have to do much customization, Picaboo doesn't quite measure up to some of their competitors. You won't find many modern themes or additions for photo books here.

Nations Photo Lab

NATIONS PHOTO LAB

Nations Photo Lab offers hundreds of customizable photo products. Since they do not focus specifically on photo books, they aren't as robust as some of our higher-rated sites. Photo books here are more basic and require more creative effort on the part of the customer. Few pre-created themes are available for customers to choose from and by uploading a lot of pictures, photo books here can become expensive.

Snapfish

SNAPFISH

Snapfish provides customers with an online custom photo book creation process. In addition, they sell individual prints, canvas prints, home decor, photo gifts, and cards. All of their products can be customized. Snapfish seems to have everything going for themů except for customer satisfaction and a positive rating from the Better Business Bureau. Complaints of website glitches, blurry prints, and bad customer service put them at the bottom of our list for photo book websites.

Continued from above

It used to be that in order to make a photo book, you would print hundreds of photos, purchase binders, stickers, fancy paper, and buy the tools to cut out fun edges for borders. Then it might take hours to glue pages together and hand write a description for each page. This scrapbooking method, although fun for some, was extremely time consuming and resulted in thick books that take up a lot of space. With online photo books, customers can quickly upload their photos and arrange everything in an appealing and functional way.

The other great thing about online photo books is they are easily customizable and can be made to suit many people's styles. They can be as simple as a photo dump of just pictures, or made to look like a scrapbook page with fancy borders, stickers, and text. If you are making a photo book of your beach vacation, some websites let you pick photo book themes so that you can add seashell stickers, "sandy" looking pages, and palm tree frames to the pictures. Whatever the theme, you can get really creative when making your photo book.

When searching for photo books, consider the following things to ensure you get the best deal and online shopping experience:

  • Cost. How does the cost of the photo book line up against competitors? Are you paying per page? Or for the entire book regardless of size? Make sure to check on this before starting the creation process.
  • Customization. Some photo book sites let you choose from a variety of sizes to fit your needs. Also consider if you want a softcover vs. hardcover book. Are there plenty of fonts, colors, borders, stickers, and photo arrangement options?
  • Functionality. You want to make sure that it is easy to use all the features necessary to create your photo book. If the website makes it confusing to jump around and use all the tools to create your book, it will take a long time and likely result in frustration. Find a sleek website that makes photo book creation both fun and easy.

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best photo books available today. We hope these reviews help you find the best website to create a memorable photo book that you are happy with.

Why Have Photo Books Become So Popular?

The simple answer to that question lies outside of the photo book itself: Digital photography and a computer.

The days of coming back from a European vacation with a hundred rolls of exposed film and no way of knowing if you got a good photograph of anything is over. After spending many dollars on developing the film, it was normal to fill several traditional photo albums with shots of dubious quality, a time consuming and expensive activity. Few people, aside from yourself, want to see a dozen shots of the Eiffel Tower from different angles. But they will be happy to look at one great photo of the icon on the Seine, especially if it was taken by you. If it is context with other spectacular photos of the City of Light, well, what's not to like?

Digital cameras allow you to click away until you get the image you want. If you know how to use the digital camera, then loading the photographs into your computer is probably easy for you, as well. The final step, creating a photo book, using the best of your best photographs, rather than oodles of ordinary ones, is a simple effort for anyone.

Therein lies the reason for photo books' rising popularity. The books, created from your skill, your eye for composition and your flair for storytelling, provide a way for you, and others, to truly enjoy the event you have experienced. And with the help of photo book companies, you can do it without too great an effort nor too great an expense.

Photo books are a perfect memento for a wealth of occasions, especially since you can determine exactly how many photo book copies you need for yourself and to share.

It goes without saying, the bride and groom will treasure their wedding photo album, but the parents of the couple, would no doubt enjoy a photo book of the event, perhaps with more candid, family shots included than would be in the formal arrangements. A photo book of Mom and Dad's Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary party, with Grandma and Grandad taking a turn on the dance floor, would probably be a best seller if it were available to the whole clan, and with a photo book, it can be.

Photo book services allow a digital photographer to easily manipulate, crop and resize images. They also provide easy access to a wide range of other variables, from backgrounds to photo placement and fonts for captions.

Photo book cover options include spiral bound, soft covers, hard backs, leather bound and dust jackets. Photo books can be created in several different sizes, from 4x6 inches to portfolio sized perfect for display on the coffee table. Choices include photo books which either have page curl and those with lay flat features.

The result is a totally customizable photo book of personal memories.
