Cost:

Starting from $99.99

Home Depot may not be a Playhouse specialty store, but you'll still be impressed with their selection of more than 40 models.

Are you looking for an elevated wooden playhouse with a sandbox underneath? Check out the Outdoor Living Today Sunflower model. Priced at $4277.90, this Playhouse is at the high end of Home Depot's available choices. We really appreciate how detailed the information is in the Product Overview, and we encourage you to read it carefully to find out the dimensions, assembly instructions, and any other pointers. For example, on this model, you find out that you should expect assembly time of 2 days, and that your Playhouse comes unstained so that you can create your own look.

At the other end of the budget range, Home Depot offers the PalPlay House of Fun Playhouse for just under $100. Not only is it affordable, but this playhouse also comes with free delivery or free ship-to-store for local pickup.

And, there's a nice range of Playhouses in between those two options. Most of them are the wooden house style, some with cute options like attached picnic tables or little window boxes for flowers. Most of the Playhouses have helpful customer reviews; don't forget to scroll down to the bottom of the model that interests you, to see what people have to say once they've assembled and used the Playhouse they bought.

On average, Home Depot's prices are competitive. We found a few of their Playhouses priced more affordably on another big-box home improvement retailer's website, but overall Home Depot came in at approximately the same price.

Buying your Playhouse from a big-name retailer like Home Depot has some advantages. First, their 90-day return policy (assuming you haven't opened your Playhouse) means that you can take your purchase back to any local store, saving you the return shipping costs you'd be charged by an online-only store. Also, Home Depot often offers convenient in-home installation options right on the product page, instead of referring you to a third-party company that may or may not take on the project of assembling your cottage or cabin.

Home Depot provides an attractive array of Playhouses, from simple and plastic to sturdy, wooden models made to last a long time. Priced well and with ample information to make the right purchase, these Playhouses will be a great addition to your children's fun, especially when backed by the reputation of a big name like Home Depot.

Cost:

Starting from $349

Headquartered in Virginia, Posh Tots has the ultimate selection of high-end Playhouses for parents (and grandparents) who want their children to have detailed castles, mansions, and villas that look like pint-sized versions of the real thing. In business for over a decade, Posh Tots has been the darling of celebrity families and others around the world, and the company remains committed to top-notch craftsmanship and quality in every Playhouse they offer.

Let's put it out there right away: you won't find a cheap plastic Playhouse on Posh Tots. On the lowest end of the price spectrum, you'll find several options for $349:

  • Beach Home Playhouse
  • Butterfly Garden Play Tent
  • Fairy Cottage Play Tent
  • Gingerbread Cottage Play Tent
  • Toy Shop Play Tent

Each of these models is 100% canvas, probably better suited for indoor play than for outside use. Be sure to look at the "We Also Suggest" section for cute suggestions for accessories and other items that match, like a floor quilt or bean bag.

On the other end of the price range, you'll find gigantic models that you might see at a public playground. Some of the options include:

  • Tumble Outpost: for the price of a small home ($122, 730), you get a swinging bridge, lookout tower, double rock climbing wall, clubhouse and more.
  • Red Beard's Revenge Pirate Ship: if $52,000 sounds like a reasonable price for playing pirate, this could be the perfect Playhouse for you. Captain's quarters with room for 3, upper and lower decks and a crow's nest are just a few of the features that make this model a delight.

There are also several models that require you to call for pricing, like the Princess Ballerina Castle Bed and the Custom Home Replica Playhouse.

During our most recent visit to the site, we got a discount offer in the live chat box that popped up. The coupon codes gave us a discount of 15% off a purchase of at least $750, or 20% off $2,000+.

Unfortunately, since the last time we evaluated Posh Tots, we've found several factors that caused their ranking to drop. First, the site itself isn't secure. When we reached out to the company via live chat (and got a very quick response, to their credit), we were told that it was being fixed. But, would you want to enter your credit card information to purchase the $24,900 Dream Tree Loft Playhouse if you weren't sure your information would be safe?

Then, we discovered that the company's BBB listing was being updated. That might not mean anything, but we didn't feel secure knowing that something needed to be changed there that could have a negative impact.

Most importantly, however, we found a significant number of customer complaints about Posh Tot's customer service. Orders consisting of thousands of dollars went undelivered, with no updates or explanations. The complaints seemed to revolve around higher-end, large items - just like Playhouses.

For all of these reasons, Posh Tots doesn't earn our highest recommendation for your next Playhouse. If you're looking for a top-notch, designer-quality structure for your children, you'll find several other options in our review that are backed by companies with a strong reputation for customer service.

Continued from above

When choosing the right Playhouse for your favorite children, you want to be sure that you're getting a product that meets your needs. Keep a careful eye on the brand's reputation, the quality of the materials used, and any options for professional assembly when appropriate.

From budget to features, there really are endless options for Playhouses. How can you tell if a retailer is the best choice for your purchase? Here are several factors to guide your shopping decision:

  • Quality. Are the materials for the playhouse as sturdy as you would expect for the price. For example, no one would expect a cardboard Playhouse to hold up in the rain, but a Victorian mansion-style Playhouse should be well-constructed (and probably waterproof!).
  • Reputation. What do other customers have to say about the retailer and its Playhouses? Are there reviews of each available model on the site? Is the company rated by the Better Business Bureau?
  • Cost. When compared with similar styles of Playhouses, is the business competitively priced? Whether you're spending $200 or $20,000 for your Playhouse, you want it to be at the best possible price.
  • Return Policy. If something isn't quite right, can you return your Playhouse? Are there return shipping costs to consider? Is there a satisfaction guarantee in place?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Playhouses available today. We hope this information helps you find the perfect equipment for your children's best backyard adventures!
