Which online service offers the best prenuptial agreements? We know what you're thinking: if you're really in love, a prenup isn't necessary. Right? While we wish we could agree with you, the numbers don't lie: with more than 50% of marriages ending in divorce, and many of those under hostile conditions, it's no wonder that so many people take legal measures to protect themselves...just in case.

And, while some people mistakenly think that a prenuptial agreement is only required when one or both people have a high net worth - think Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, or Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (who even wrote a song that highlighted the need of a prenup!) - that's just not the case.

Cost:

$78.95 for the Prenuptial Agreement

$84/year for Standard Plan (single version of each document)

$499/year for Professional Plan (unlimited versions of each document)

FREE 7-day trial ($38.95/month after)

Legal Nature is one of the newer online services offering low-cost "legal products for everyone". During their 9+ years in business, the company has garnered an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau: a good sign that your document needs, including prenuptial agreements, will be handled well with this service.

Preview a sample prenup

If you'd like to get an idea of what Legal Nature's prenuptial agreement includes, simply click on the Preview button. It won't be specific to your situation, since it's just a generic sample, but it'll give you a good overview before you enter any of your personal details.

Help guide

You might also appreciate the useful information found in Legal Nature's Help Guide, whether you actually use their prenuptial agreement services or not. If you need to better understand separate and shared property, how to execute your agreement, or if a prenup is binding, you'll find that here.

Good explanations

Let's say you're ready to get started. The process is similar to most online legal services: select your state and then answer the usual questions: where you live, whether or not there are any prior marriages and/or children, and so on. We really liked how, on the more complicated questions, the explanation was already given right there - we didn't have to click on a help button or go to another part of the site to get clarification. For example, under Shared Property, it gave circumstances under which you'd have each spouse's income treated as separate property or as joint marital property.

Best Prenup Agreements

Handy running checklist

It was also helpful to have a running checklist on the side of the page, to know at a glance how much of the document had already been completed. Pro tip: if there's a page that you're not ready to fill out, such as assets or liabilities, you can click "next" without having to fill it in. Just remember to go back to that page if it's an essential part of your prenup!

3 pricing plans

After you've filled in all of your information, you'll need to choose a pricing plan. Here are your options:

  • Just the prenuptial agreement: $78.95. No subscription is required for this option. You'll get unlimited edits to the document for 10 years, so if your situation changes (such as your net worth changes drastically or you want to set new terms), you'll be able to do so at no extra charge.
  • Annual plan: $84/year. If you think you'll have a need for other legal documents, like a will or a separation agreement (oops!), this offers the greatest value at less than $2 more than the cost of the single prenup document.
  • Free 7-day trial: If you want to try everything Legal Nature offers, you can do that for a week. If you don't cancel after that first week, your account will switch to a month-to-month membership at $38.95/month.

Plan discrepancy

One discrepancy we noticed: on the main Pricing page for Legal Nature, it said that the $84/year plan only allowed for a single version of each document you create. But, on the pricing page that you get at the end of your document's creation, it said that the $84/year plan lets you "create, edit and store unlimited versions of all documents". That's worth asking Legal Nature about, if you anticipate using their service for legal forms in addition to your prenup.

Cancel at any time

Either way, subscriptions can be cancelled at any time - via phone, email, or your account dashboard - and Legal Nature offers a 30-day money-back guarantee of your most recent payment.

Keeping customer happy

And, looking at the more than 3,000 independently-verified customer reviews linked on the Legal Nature site, it soon becomes clear that this company keeps people happy. On average, 85% of their clients give them a rating of 4 or 5 stars.

Terrific option

Legal Nature is a terrific option for your prenuptial agreement. The process is easy to understand, and the company's pricing plans give you ample options for a one-off document or access to a wide variety of documents for numerous legal situations. This is one of our favorite services for people looking to put together a prenup online.

Cost:

Package cost varies by state

Average price - about $50 for digital download, $68 for print copy

US Legal Forms offers document packages for a variety of legal situations. The company has been in business for over 20 years.

Document packages

This service specializes in packages of documents specific to the state you live in. The price may vary depending on where you live and how complicated the documents need to be to address any legal issues particular to that state. Once you've selected your state of residence, you'll be taken to the package that applies to you.

What you get

What do you get when buying a document package from US Legal Forms? Again, the specifics depend on where you live, but generally speaking you can expect to get documents that include something similar to this:

  • Prenuptial Agreement without Financial Statements
  • Amendment to Prenuptial or Premarital Agreement
  • Financial Statements only in Connection with Prenuptial Premarital Agreement
  • Revocation of Premarital or Prenuptial Agreement

Limited preview

In the tabs shown on the package page, you can see a free preview of the premarital agreement forms for your state - but only the first few introductory pages. It wasn't enough to see even one page of what would actually be filled in during the process of drafting a prenuptial agreement. We would have liked to see much more information.

Doesn't come cheap

And, these packages don't come cheap. As an example, in one state we researched you'll pay $50.96 for an instant download, or $67.96 for US Legal Forms to mail you a paper copy. The company offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Hard to justify

While we appreciate the good reputation held by this company - including an "A+" grade at the BBB and many positive customer comments - the prenuptial agreement services they offer just can't hold a candle to what you'll find with our higher-ranked providers. It's hard to see why anyone would spend $50+ to download a book and some forms, when other services let customers enter all of their details online and even print out a finalized prenuptial agreement - for free. For these reasons, US Legal Forms winds up towards the bottom of our rankings.

Continued from above

Having a prenuptial agreement can offer peace of mind and security when there are children from previous marriages involved, business assets, or even large amounts of debt incurred prior to the wedding (like student loans). Even though it's not the most romantic of topics, having a calm discussion of the "what ifs" can actually strengthen your relationship.

Fortunately, while drafting a prenuptial agreement is practically a necessity, spending a lot of money on an attorney is not. There are a number of reputable, easy-to-use services online that walk users through all of the applicable questions to draft a legal prenup in any state of residence. Why spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars when the whole process can easily cost less than $80 from start to finish?

Of course, not every site that offers to help you draft a prenup will give you the same level of service. How can you tell which one is the best option for you? Here are several criteria to keep in mind as you select the provider for your prenuptial agreement:

  • Online Form or Download/Print. The easiest, most efficient way to get your document completed is with a website that offers a fillable form. However, some services will sell you a book, either a paper copy or digital, and you'll have to read through and understand all the material.
  • Ease of Use. Assuming you go with an online service, how straightforward is it to enter your specific details. If you wind up with questions along the way, how quickly can you get answers? How easily can you go back and make edits if needed - and for how long will you have online access to your document?
  • Price. What will you spend to get a completed prenuptial agreement? Will you have to pay for a subscription plan that you may not need?
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about their experience with the service? Are company representatives helpful or do they make life difficult if you have a problem, a billing dispute, or a refund request? Has the provider been rated by the BBB?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best prenuptial agreement providers available today. We hope this information helps you determine the right service to get your prenup in place - just in time for your (hopefully) happily ever after.
