What are the best scar creams? Whether it be from falling off your bike as a kid, burning yourself in the kitchen, getting in a car accident, or having surgery, there are endless ways we all end up with scars. If your scar came as a result of a really cool story, maybe you'll even want to wear it as a badge of honor. However, this is rarely the case and most of the time we want smooth skin that looks unblemished.

Scars are the result of our body healing wounds. Even though they aren't very pretty, scars are the aftermath of the amazing way our body heals itself. When the dermis (deep layer of skin) is damaged, the body produces new collagen fibers to mend the damage and close the skin back up. This area of healing will look a bit different than the original surrounding skin, thus resulting in an obvious scar.

Cost:

$59.95/bottle with bulk discounts

Dermefface FX7 was developed as part of the Skinception line by Dr. Dave David, a Board Certified Gynecologist of over 32 years. Dr. David has appeared in Time magazine as a leading aesthetic surgeon, served as a medical news analyst on NECN, made appearances on NBC, The Food Network, CNN, and Fox, and has been a guest on many talk shows. Dr. David formulated the Skinception line to help patients who aren't good candidates for surgery, lasers, or injectables.

67 day return policy

The makers of Dermefface FX7 claim the cream reduces the appearance of scars within just 4 weeks of use. Best results come in 3-4 months for minor surface scars while deep surgery or injury scars may take at least 6 months. A 67-day, no questions asked return policy is in place for customers who feel they are not getting any results from the product.

7 active ingredients, but what are they?

Using "scar-fade technology" Dermefface FX7 uses 7 clinically proven active ingredients, 10 potent antioxidants, and 5 super moisturizers to work on every layer of the skin to diminish blemishes. As far as what these specific ingredients are, unfortunately we aren't sure since the website does not list them. We wish they were more transparent about what is in the Dermefface FX7 cream. The idea is that those mysterious ingredients fast-track healing, push scarred cells to the surface to be sloughed away, and increase the production of normal cells to replace the scarred cells.

Little customer feedback

Based on the little customer feedback out there, it appears that Dermefface FX7 works best for small, fresh scars rather than ones that have been affecting one's skin for months or even years. For those who choose to order, Dermefface FX7 can be purchased in a one-month ($59.95), three-month ($129.95), or six-month ($199.95) supply. Bonus gifts are included depending on the amount of Dermefface FX7 purchased. Bonus gifts are a loofah exfoliator, health source $25 gift card, and/or microderm facial exfoliator. Purchases over $150 ship free.

Good potential

Overall, it seems like Dermefface FX7 is a science-based scar cream that has good potential. It would be nice if there was more customer feedback on the product to see what people experience when using it. They list that they have 50 reviews rating them 4 out of 5 stars on the website, but the actual reviews are nowhere to be found to ensure legitimacy. Dermefface FX7 is not only hard to find feedback for, but also a bit pricier than some of their competitors. They aren't necessarily a bad choice for buying scar cream, but they definitely aren't our first.

Cost:

$59.95 with bulk discounts

Lucent Skin is one of many skin care products made by Revitol. It was formulated to help customers get rid of unsightly scars at an affordable price. Revitol claims that Lucent Skin is clinically proven and made with natural ingredients, but they do not list the ingredients anywhere on the website. What is listed on the page for Lucent Skin is a sales pitch and some filtered reviews.

High claims

Revitol basically claims that Lucent Skin works to remove all types of scars. Whether they are old or new, on oily or dry skin, an acne scar or the result of a surgical incision, supposedly Lucent Skin can erase them all. Since only four filtered reviews are shown on the website, we don't really know if all the claims about Lucent Skin's magic ability to erase scars is true.

Expensive!

What we do know is that Lucent Skin is pricey. For one bottle, customers will pay $59.95. This is only a trial offer, meaning the purchase of one bottle signs you up for an auto ship program where you'll be sent another container every 30 days and charged $59.95 each time. Unless customers cancel by calling customer service, they will keep being charged and shipped new Lucent Skin products. What is even more ridiculous is that Revitol does not even tell customers the size of the Lucent Skin cream. The picture online makes the container appear to be about 1 fl. Oz, but unless you purchase it, there is no way to know for sure. Other options for buying Lucent Skin include a buy 2, get 1 free option for $119.90 or buy 3, get 3 free for $179.85. These last two packages do not sign customers up for the auto ship program.

90 day guarantee

A 90-day guarantee is in place that allows customers to get a full refund if they don't see "dramatic results" after using Lucent Skin. If it were up to us, we would avoid the hassle of having to send the product back by not buying it in the first place. Revitol has given us few reasons to trust their product by giving minimal information, expensive pricing, and an unappealing sales page. Your best bet is to stick with a higher-rated scar cream, rather than purchasing Lucent Skin.

Continued from above

Scars do begin to naturally heal over a few years and even lose some discoloration, but they never completely disappear. Depending on the size, color, and location of the scar, most people want to erase the obvious appearance of the healing skin as fast as possible. Luckily, there are many over-the-counter solutions to hide these scars faster than waiting years for them to slowly start to fade.

Before putting your money and optimism into a scar cream, we suggest you take the following things into consideration:

  • Cost. Just because a scar cream is priced high doesn't mean it works well. Sometimes, lower-priced products have just as much or more success than the marked-up ones. Consider how the cost of a given scar cream compares with its competitors.
  • Effectiveness. Many customers will give feedback about scar creams and even post before-and-after pictures to gauge success. If customer satisfaction is high overall, chances are you'll see some results from the scar cream you're considering.
  • Return Policy. Everyone's healing process will be different depending on the location, size, and scar tissue damage. If you purchase a cream that seems to have no effect, can you send it back?

To help you identify the best scar creams on the market today, TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked a variety of options to give you an idea of which choice might be the most effective for you. We hope this information helps you pick the right scar cream to reduce the appearance of your scars quickly and affordably!
