Recently, scar creams have been gaining in popularity. Whether you've had surgery, a deep cut, skin rash, acne or any other trauma to your skin, you've probably been left with an unattractive scar.

Scars are the result of our body's natural process of closing a wound - but that doesn't mean we want to live with the discolored and uneven skin that scars can leave behind. Today a number of over-the-counter scar creams exist that provide significant results with concealing those scars and help people feel confident again. Deciding which scar cream to buy can be confusing and frustrating, as many of them promise big results but don't always deliver.

Cost:

$23.49 - 0.7 oz supply

$29.49 - 1.76 oz supply

Mederma Scar Gel is a popular scar cream that many have heard of from TV advertisements. Developed for a wide range of scar types, Mederma helps improve the softness and appearance of both old and new wounds.

To use, evenly apply Mederma gel on the scar 3-4 times a day. For new scars, use is required for 8 weeks and old scars require 3-6 months of application. For best results use Mederma Gel as soon as your wound has healed. The translucent gel may be used on any skin type of any age.

Some users have experienced some minor sensitivity to Mederma's ingredients such as itching or swelling. However, Mederma has thousands of happy customers that give the product high ratings.

Mederma is well priced but remember that it requires 3 to 4 applications per day and will be used up faster. Should you not be satisfied a 30 day full money back return is available. A return authorization must be obtained by calling customer service for the refund to be accepted.

The affordability of Mederma Scar Gel along with strong recommendations makes it a good choice for those looking to improve the appearance of a scar. Beware that some customers experience slight discomfort from the products ingredients.

Leading Health makes a number of products designed to improve beauty, health, and life, and the Dermefface FX7 Skinception scar cream fits well with the brand. As with most of Leading Health's products, Dermefface FX7 is promoted by Dr. Dave David, a cosmetic surgeon frequently seen on news programs and talk shows.

Even more compelling are the before-and-after photos on the site, showing both a model injured in a car accident and an "average Joe" customer with facial scarring. The changes are impressive. Dermefface FX7 should be used consistently for at least 90 days in order to see results, longer for scars that are deeper.

Dermefface FX7 promises that it helps speed healing across all three layers of skin, promotes the regrowth of skin through increased production of collagen, and sloughs away scarred cells to allow them to be replaced by healthy, normal skin. Unfortunately, Leading Health doesn't provide more detailed information as to the ingredients of the scar cream; given the sensitive nature of skin, especially skin that has been damaged to the point of being scarred, we would have liked to see a detailed ingredients list. This would allow customers to avoid the product if any of its components have been problematic for them in the past.

Another issue that customers may encounter with Dermefface FX7 is with the money-back guarantee. As we have reviewed several of the products sold by Leading Health, we noticed that in order to take advantage of the 100% refund, customers have to make a larger initial purchase than a simple one-month supply. In the case of the scar cream, you would need to purchase a three-month supply - at a cost of $129.95 - or more in order to be eligible for a refund. Leading Health also specifies a very exact timeframe for returns: 97 days for the Dermefface FX7 product. Because of several customer reviews that described problems with getting Leading Health to honor the return policy (such as, that Leading Health claimed that the products weren't returned in time to be eligible, even though the customers knew the exact date the products were both delivered and returned), we strongly recommend that customers record the official tracking details with delivery confirmation and keep all paperwork handy.

This is especially important if Dermefface FX7 doesn't give you the results you're hoping for. Some customers saw significant improvements, particularly with acne scarring, but many felt that the product was ineffective on their larger scar tissue.

Because of the lack of product information and the "tricky" nature of the money-back guarantee, along with the lackluster results for many of its users, Dermefface FX7 earns below average marks.

  • Cost. How do the prices between scar creams compare? Are you getting a good value or being overcharged?
  • Return Policy. If you're not satisfied with the scar cream, will you be able to return it for your money back?
