What are the best scar creams? Whether it be from falling off your bike as a kid, burning yourself in the kitchen, getting in a car accident, or having surgery, there are endless ways we all end up with scars. If your scar came as a result of a really cool story, maybe you'll even want to wear it as a badge of honor. However, this is rarely the case and most of the time we want smooth skin that looks unblemished.

Scars are the result of our body healing wounds. Even though they aren't very pretty, scars are the aftermath of the amazing way our body heals itself. When the dermis (deep layer of skin) is damaged, the body produces new collagen fibers to mend the damage and close the skin back up. This area of healing will look a bit different than the original surrounding skin, thus resulting in an obvious scar.

Cost:

$29.99 for 1 fl. oz.

PuriDerma is an advanced scar cream formula marketed to not only lighten scars, but also to remove them. Since scars never actually go away 100%, the best you'll get out of this product is that your blemished skin will smooth over enough that the scar is no longer noticeable. PuriDerma works on all skin types including sensitive, dry, oily, and combination skin. An ingredient list can be found both on the container and website that contains herbal extracts such as dandelion, aloe leaf juice, matricaria flower extract, and root extract for safe and gentle results.

Clear expectations

PuriDerma scar removal cream comes in a 1 fl. Oz. container. It is recommended that the cream be applied every 4 hours for severe scars, morning and evening for moderate scars, and once a day for mild scars. The makers of PuriDerma suggest patch testing before using the cream to ensure that an allergic reaction or acne breakout will not occur. Once the product has been used for a while, skin will likely appear gray or brown. At this point, customers should stop using PuriDerma for 7-10 days, so the darkened, crusted skin falls off, leaving the scar light and shallow. The expected process of PuriDerma application and results is much more specific than most other scar creams, which gives credibility to the science behind it.

Competitive pricing

Each container of PuriDerm scar removal cream is $29.99. At the time of this review, there was a $4.00 off coupon, making the cost $25.99 instead. This is one of the most reasonably priced scar creams on the market. If customers find that PuriDerm yields no results for them, they have 30 days to return it for a refund.

Significant improvements

Over 800 customers have left reviews for PuriDerm with both descriptions of their results from the scar cream and photos for proof. The results are visibly impressive with significant improvements and customers are overall very happy with how well PuriDerm has smoothed out their skin. For a product with natural ingredients and hundreds of positive customer reviews, paying $29.99 is well worth the cost. We highly recommend trying out PuriDerm scar cream.

Cost:

$69.99 for a 2-month supply

ZENMED got its start in 1999 and believes in creating naturally-based skincare products that are cruelty-free and 100% doctor-formulated. Their one product focused on scarring, The Skin Eraser Kit, primarily targets scars and skin discoloration that result from acne, aging, and sun damage.

Chemical peel

This system uses a chemical peel-type approach to improving the skin's appearance, particularly on the face, along with a walnut shell-based scrub to exfoliate the skin. At a price point of $59.99 for a two-month supply, free shipping for orders over $50, and a 60-day satisfaction guarantee, customers can essentially try The Skin Eraser Kit risk-free.

Best Scar Creams

ZENMED's site is very easy to use, though we were puzzled by the section entitled "Recent comments from our Facebook wall" that only had posts from 2013 and earlier. Their actual Facebook site is up-to-date. We also were not able to find a Better Business Bureau rating for ZENMED.

Results vary

As with most scar creams and skin care products, results vary. Many customers express satisfaction with not only the results of The Skin Eraser Kit but also how long the products last, well beyond the two-month supply indicated by the manufacturer. Others, particularly with darker skin or who attempted to use The Skin Eraser to handle scars from injuries, didn't see the improvements in their skin tone and appearance that they were seeking.

Good for acne, sun damage, and aging

Because of the 60-day satisfaction guarantee, we can recommend ZENMED for customers specifically looking for an esthetician-style peel and scrub system to fight scarring resulting from acne, sun damage, and aging. For those who want to improve the appearance of other types of scars, however, we suggest that they consider one of our other highly-rated products that specifically target that type of skin damage.

Continued from above

Scars do begin to naturally heal over a few years and even lose some discoloration, but they never completely disappear. Depending on the size, color, and location of the scar, most people want to erase the obvious appearance of the healing skin as fast as possible. Luckily, there are many over-the-counter solutions to hide these scars faster than waiting years for them to slowly start to fade.

Before putting your money and optimism into a scar cream, we suggest you take the following things into consideration:

  • Cost. Just because a scar cream is priced high doesn't mean it works well. Sometimes, lower-priced products have just as much or more success than the marked-up ones. Consider how the cost of a given scar cream compares with its competitors.
  • Effectiveness. Many customers will give feedback about scar creams and even post before-and-after pictures to gauge success. If customer satisfaction is high overall, chances are you'll see some results from the scar cream you're considering.
  • Return Policy. Everyone's healing process will be different depending on the location, size, and scar tissue damage. If you purchase a cream that seems to have no effect, can you send it back?

To help you identify the best scar creams on the market today, TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked a variety of options to give you an idea of which choice might be the most effective for you. We hope this information helps you pick the right scar cream to reduce the appearance of your scars quickly and affordably!
