The Crab Place motto pretty much sums it up "Maryland Seafood Delivered from our dock to your door." Greg Cain started The Crab Place in 1997 in Crisfield, Maryland. As the business grew more family members and others joined the team. The company began by selling and shipping fresh Maryland crab caught daily by local watermen and now offers a comprehensive seafood delivery website.
Despite the name, The Crab Place provides a plethora of fresh seafood options including live lobster, oysters, fresh fish, shrimp, breaded seafood and several crab varieties. We really liked the look of the website , the ease of use, the clear attractive pictures and the easy search maneuverability.
If you're looking for a gift at The Crab Place they mainly offer gift cards but you are easily able to make any selection and the check out process allows you to include a gift message.
The Crab Place says they offer the guaranteed lowest price on the web, when we compared their prices to several competitors we found they were a little on the high end. However, if you join their yearly VIP club for $49.00 the shipping costs drop in half making your total cost lower priced than most.
In the event you aren't satisfied as a result of product spoilage or a high mortality rate on live crabs, upon the shipments arrival, The Crab Place will replace free of charge.
In the end we really enjoyed the website including the layout, professionalism, pictures, check out process and ease in finding the information we were looking for. If live crabs are what you are after The Crab Place should probably be your first choice. But, we felt that without the VIP membership the prices were a little steep.
Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes specializes in Crab Cakes and other prepared seafood appetizers, biscuits, soups, entrees and more. Their company is headquartered out of Baltimore Maryland. You will find limited uncooked seafood here and no live lobsters, fresh fish or shrimp. Most of the food is heat and serve and is geared well for those looking to entertain at home but without the skill and hassle necessary to make from scratch.
If you love crab cakes Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes has all sizes and varieties for appetizers and meals or somewhere in between. Ingredients in their specialty cakes includes premium jumbo lump crabmeat that is handpicked and a secret recipe of herbs, spices and more. Cakes are then flash frozen to preserve the taste and flavor. We found reviews of very happy crab cake customers along with those that were less impressed - the reviews were mixed overall.
If you're in the market for a seafood gift, Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes allows you to pick out any item and attach a gift message - they do not have a special line of items dedicated for gift giving. But, we liked the idea of sending a nice gift of prepared seafood to someone special.
Prices on much of the products was generally more expensive than raw seafood as it's prepared by a chef and ready for baking. In comparing the cost of crab cakes to other stores we found them generally in the mid range for pricing.
In the event you aren't happy with your purchase as a result of issues in transit, Chesapeake Bay Crab Company will replace your product or refund if the package arrives late, thawed, or damaged in any way.
Overall, we felt that Chesapeake Bay Crab Company was not the company for most looking for fresh seafood. With mixed reviews on the taste of their prepared food we left feeling like a higher ranked seafood provider was probably a better option for most.
