Whether it's been your lifelong dream to have a beautiful voice, or you want to impress your friends in the choir, or you think American Idol is in your future, your singing voice won't improve on it's own. Traditionally, the few people that could afford it would hire expensive voice coaches to improve their voice, pitch, and breathing. After hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars, they would usually emerge with a better singing voice.

Thankfully, other methods of learning how to sing are now available that are both flexible to your schedule and much more affordable. On the internet today you can find companies that will provide DVD's, CD's, downloaded instructions, or training videos that can be effective in teaching anyone to sing. In addition to being much less expensive than traditional voice coaches, these products let you practice and learn at any time of the day, at your own schedule and pace.

Cost:

From $36.75 to $84.25

Sing and See is a downloaded or CD formatted software program used to teach the beginner to advanced singer how to improve their voice through technology.

Developed by William Thorpe, an engineer and scientist, who spent several years working at the National Voice Centre and the School of Communication Sciences in the University of Sydney in Australia, doing research into how people sing - the physiology of their breathing, the acoustic patterns of vocal projection, and other aspects of singing performance. The tool uses computer software and your own microphone to measure your current performance and provides new skills to improve.

Priced inexpensively, Sing and See is a nice tool for those looking to improve their singing ability. However, you must have Windows or Mac OS X running on an Intel machine, internet access, a microphone with sound input, and speakers or headphones to use this program.

Sing and See comes with a 30 day 100% guarantee, a customer service phone number and an email address for your questions or concerns.

Overall, we liked the concept of the product and the ability to see the improvement of our singing visually. The product is fairly priced on the downloaded version and serves as a nice add on for those with some advanced singing knowledge.

Cost:

$97 one-time fee

Angela Kelman, lead singer for Award winning group Farmer's Daughter, is the creator of the 5 Point Singing System. Angela has used her 30 years of experience in the music industry to put together this singing lesson system. The system is reasonably priced at $97.

Included in the lesson package is a 116-page E-manual, video tutorials, and chapters on Studio Singing, Background Vocal Singing, Stage Performance Tips, Creating Emotional Moments and more. It is advertised for the beginner who just wants to sound good on karaoke night all the way to professional singer and music producer.

Unfortunately, the website is not organized well as we'd like to see. 5 Point Singing System provides one continuous long homepage that you have to scroll up and down to get to the information you are looking for. Also, if you have any questions, there is no number to call; the company only accepts email inquiries. However, a nice 60-day money back guarantee is offered where the customer may return the system within 60-days with no questions asked.

5 Point Singing System received a just above average rating in our review. While we like the credibility of an actual person with professional singing experience, we are a little hesitant with the amount of information provided for the actual lessons. We found that some of the higher ranked companies gave more information and provided better overall customer service.

However, not all singing lessons are the same. Before you purchase the first singing lesson package that you find, you need to consider some important aspects of singing lesson programs:

  • Quality. Who's selling the singing lessons and what will you receive? If you're expected to learn from downloaded instructions, but don't have convenient access to a computer, that's important to know.
  • Cost. How much will you have to pay for your singing lesson instructions? How does this cost compare other singing lesson providers?
  • Return policy. If you receive your downloaded instructions or DVD's in the mail and a problem exists will you get your money back?
