Cost:

From $150 to $499 per image

Getty Images is known for their high quality stock photos as well as video and music. With over 20 million images available the selection is significant. Getty's diverse file types cater to bigger budget web designers and marketing companies that need the highest quality photos and are able to pay for them.

Stock images may be searched using a several options to refine the effort. Input several key words and then narrow by royalty-free, all rights managed, and then collection. The Getty Images website even allows you to refine by orientation, color and black and white. Once the images appear, an abundant list of further refining options appear and allows the user to find exactly what they are looking for. The refining options are the most prevalent of any company reviewed. We did notice that celebrity photos were limited.

Getty is said to limit who they do business with. The word on the street is they don't want their pictures spread over the Internet from non professional companies. We didn't have any issues with our purchase but read several comments regarding access issues.

Getty's images start at $150 if you buy a pack of 10 (total price $1,500) to $499per image for larger sizes. This is definitely not a stock photo site for those on a strict budget. For the rights managed photos you will be asked a number of questions to determine the price of the photo. Limited usage can run hundreds of dollars even on a small picture.

Getty has great stock photos, many of which are considered of the highest artistic quality on the web. The search functionality was also second to none. However, you'll definitely pay the price for great pictures. Getty is geared for companies with big budgets and the highest quality needs.

However, not all stock photo companies are the same. When choosing a stock photo company to work with, you should consider a number of factors:

  • Selection. Having millions of stock photos available at one website improves the likelihood of finding the one you're looking for.
  • Price. Stock photo prices can vary greatly. Be aware of the average cost of each image before buying credits. Also, look for subscription and membership options if you need a large number of images.
  • Quality. Successful stock photography companies utilize high quality photos that will add value to your website and advertising. Look for companies that provide artistically high quality work to choose from.
