The main purpose of yoga is to bring the person performing it into a state of wholeness or completeness. It relaxes both the mind and body, slows breathing, and promotes a state of health. This is why yoga is so beneficial when it comes to relieving stress.

Granted, stress relief takes many forms and yoga is only one of them, but it can be one of the most effective ways to combat stress. When you perform the different postures of yoga the different systems of the body become balanced. Your mental activity slows and you experience a sense of peace from within. Not only does this experience momentarily remove you from the stress in your life, it also helps you build a natural response to stress if you make yoga a part of your daily life.

A healthy lifestyle is vital for stress relief. A balanced, healthy diet and adequate exercise are all needed to promote a stress-free life. Yoga helps meet this end through both physical and mental means.

Physical Benefits of Yoga

When you feel better physically, stress relief comes naturally. Your body is healthier and more readily able to respond and eliminate stressful situations. Yoga helps you increase your physical fitness by:

Without a release, this adrenaline can build up in your body and over the long term may cause health concerns.

Granted, yoga might not be the option that best fits into your lifestyle, but for many it has been the answer and that makes it worth your consideration. And you donít have to be in great physical shape to perform yoga. Many of the postures are simple enough for almost anyone to do and many of the postures can also be adapted to suit your physical needs. You can also perform yoga with a partner.
