If you plan on traversing rough mountain terrain on your next vacation, or want to prepare for a natural disaster, finding the right survival equipment can be a big challenge.

Earthquakes, tornadoes, ice storms, and hurricanes can leave you in the dark and cause you to leave your home, with nowhere to go. Or, you could be stuck at your residence with little or no access to food, water, and electricity. Similarly, roughing it in the mountains can be a lot of fun - but having the proper emergency supplies is key to preparing for any situation that could occur. It could be life or death.

Return Policy:

30-day, no-hassle policy

Emergency Essentials lives up to its name. Several five-star reviews posted to the site praise them for their "low-price guarantee", meaning if you find a lower price within 30-days of your purchase, they will match the price. We were very impressed by the reviews we found praising this site for its competitive pricing and excellent service.

The company specializes in emergency preparedness, offering peace of mind for anyone who wants to plan accordingly for any unexpected event. Here are the main items offered on this online store:

  • Food
  • Water and storage
  • Meal ready to eat (MRE)
  • Gear
  • Survival kits

By simply clicking on a category, a customer can find out all items available. For example, the site breaks down what kinds of MREs one can buy, such as entrees, snacks, and combo packs.

What sets Emergency Essentials apart from other sites are the helpful guides. For example, if you don't know how to build your food storage, you can download an emergency preparedness list which will help you learn. You can also watch videos explaining why it is important to build a healthy inventory of emergency supplies.

The site also provides other helpful tools. Customers can find information on the following topics:

  • Recipes
  • Essential survival lists
  • Shelf life
  • Customizing your supplies
  • Tips on how to shop
  • Tips on how to store items

Regarding customer service, you can contact them via email, phone, or chat. Group orders have a minimum order requirement, but automatically qualify for free shipping. Individual orders, however, do have to pay for shipping, and customers from Hawaii and Alaska may be charged additional fees.

Overall, Emergency Essentials is very easy to navigate, and has a sporty vibe with bright colors such as the orange you might see emergency workers wearing. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any information about this company with the Better Business Bureau, and we did find a few reviews from customers who were disappointed with their experience. However, survival enthusiasts will enjoy shopping on this site. Those new to emergency preparedness will also find this site helpful and informative.

Return Policy:

All returns must be approved through their return department and incur a 15% restocking fee.

The Wise Company offers an extensive inventory of quality survival gear. They also offer several educational resources such as blogs and videos to learn more about their products. According to the Better Business Bureau, they have been in business for seven years and at the time of this review, held an A- rating.

A general search for survival gear will take you to a page focusing on food bundles and emergency backpacks. The majority of these items were at least $99.00, so we recommend perusing the site carefully if you're looking for a specific item. You can narrow your search by clicking on the following categories:

  • Long-term food kits
  • Emergency food kits
  • Meat, fruits, vegetables
  • Camping goods
  • Current deals
  • Powdered items

The site seems geared toward bulk sales. For example, we found specials organized by time frame such as food storage for 12 months. This might be a great option for the shopper who has the funds, but not the time, to build up a food supply.

Regarding customer service, you can contact The Wise Company via phone, email, or chat during business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. New customers will appreciate this company's quality control efforts. For example, they list how their products are packaged and with what materials.

The site appropriately maintains a sporty, outdoor vibe. However, the site isn't well-organized. We had to do a search for both the return policy and customer service information (most sites list these categories on the bottom of the home page). Unless you're familiar with the company, be prepared to spend a lot of time looking for information.

Overall, we appreciate this company's transparency; we just wish it wasn't so hard to find what we were looking for. On the strength of their rating with the Better Business Bureau and frequent online specials, we give this online store average marks. We hope they will simplify the search process, especially for those new to emergency preparedness.

Trying to find affordable survival gear and emergency preparedness products in most local areas can be a frustrating experience. Thankfully there are online companies that provide a wide selection of survival products to save you time and money.

Before making your next purchase of survival gear, packaged food, or bottled water, consider the following:

  • Selection. Does the company offer a wide selection of survival gear and emergency preparedness products? Or will you have to shop various companies to find everything you need?
  • Shipping. Survival gear can be heavy. What does the survival company charge for shipping, and how does that compare to other providers?
  • Return policy. Does the survival gear company enable you to return products if you aren't satisfied? If so, does that involve a restocking fee?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best survival gear stores available today. We hope these reviews help you meet all of your emergency preparedness and survival gear needs!
