In the last decade, Swim Outlet has grown to be the largest online retailer in the US when it comes to swimming, beach fashion, and surf products. Based in California, this swimsuit retailer has over 100,000 products, ranging from designer swimwear labels to competitive swimsuits for team competitions, triathlons, and more.
We were impressed to see all of the major names in both fashion and competitive swimwear, from Speedo and TYR to Vix and Vitamin A. Most of the other retailers in our review tend to focus on one specialty - sexy bikinis or plus-size style, for example - and we love that Swim Outlet can save shoppers time by truly being a one-stop shop for the entire family.
While at first glance Swim Outlet's prices are often higher than their competitors', the "Price Match Guarantee" link immediately above the swimsuits' prices makes it fast and easy to connect with a representative via live chat and get the lower price. Furthermore, Swim Outlet's availability in a variety of sizes was better than the competition, which is helpful when you can't wait weeks for your tankini top to ship and the matching bottom is already available.
Swim Outlet has a generous return policy and shipping costs to match. New and unused swimsuits can be returned within 60 days of the shipment date, for a full refund, and all orders of $49 and more receive free shipping. Even better, customers with orders of $99 and up get free 1-2 day shipping; if your swimwear purchase doesn't quite reach that amount, Swim Outlet offers a wide variety of accessories, from goggles and pool toys to sandals and rash guard shirts that you can add to your cart. For smaller purchases, shipping is a flat $4.99.
Because of their incredible selection of in-stock inventory, customer-friendly shipping and price match guarantee, and a wide variety of swim accessories, Swim Outlet is a standout among online retailers of swimsuits. We give them our highest rating for swimwear shopping.
Created in 2005 by a group of moms who wanted swimwear for women that was fashionable as well as flattering, Hapari is committed to enhancing a woman's natural beauty no matter her shape.
Using the navigation at the top of the page, customers can easily find swimsuits according to style, from tankinis to one-piece suits and more. Pricing is reasonable, with most suits and many top/bottom combinations available for less than $100. At the time of our review, Hapari was offering a 20% discount on all orders.
Shipping costs are simple and relatively inexpensive: $4 to $7 for first-class shipping via USPS, with priority, overnight, and express options available for an additional fee. The site also has free shipping promotions on a regular basis.
Hapari's return policy is similar to most of its similarly-ranked competitors: unworn, unused, and unwashed swimsuits can be returned within 30 days of shipment. If a suit is deemed as defective after it has been worn, customers can get an online gift certificate up to the original price of the defective item (for example, 1-3 months after purchase = certificate for the full price, 3-6 months after purchase = 75% of the purchase price, 6-12 months = 50% of the purchase price). This does not apply to damage resulting from tanning oils, hot tubs, sand and/or dirt, or highly-chlorinated pools.
One aspect of Hapari's swimsuit selection that surprised us was a lack of availability in larger sizes. Although the company expresses a commitment to helping women of all shapes and sizes to find the right swimsuit, we were only able to find four styles of one-piece swimwear in sizes larger than XL. Larger women may fare better if shopping for bikinis and tankinis, if the selection increased in those styles.
On the other hand, Hapari goes to great lengths to help their customers find the right swimsuit for their shape. There's a handy Size & Fit Guide on the website, and if shoppers need further assistance they can call one of Hapari's Style consultants and get free, expert advice.
Because of Hapari's strong commitment to providing swimsuits for women of all shapes and their eagerness to give personalized help with finding the right fit, we give them a very high rating.
Swimsuits For All, often abbreviated as S4A, caters to women who wear swimwear in sizes 8 and up. Shoppers have many ways to find their perfect suit: either by using the top navigation to narrow down results according to the style of the swimwear, or by using the "Find Your Fit" section of the home page, which sorts the available apparel according to flared fit, relaxed fit, or form fit tops.
Pricing at S4A is very reasonable: with hundreds of one-pieces and separates in their collection, we didn't find anything over $100. Also, when we visited the site for our review, there was a pop-up for 40% off for customers who entered their email address, and a banner advertising savings of 30% more site wide for all shoppers.
S4A accepts returns within 60 days from the date the order was received, as long as the suit is in unworn, unwashed conditions and with the hygienic protection sticker still in place. Customers can use the prepaid label included with their purchase and receive free return shipping if they want store credit; otherwise, customers will need to pay the cost for returning the item to the company. While S4A advertises a "Fit Solutions Guarantee", it appears that this refers to their providing access to swimsuit consultants who can help ladies find the right fit for their figure, rather than providing any kind of satisfaction guarantee. As with some of the other retailers in our review, there doesn't seem to be any way to return a suit that doesn't perform up to the wearer's expectations (for example, it wears out easily after being exposed to chlorine, stretches out too quickly, and so on).
On a more positive note, S4A's site is full of images shared via social media that show actual customers out and about, proudly wearing their swimsuits; customers rave about the excellent fit and quality of the swimwear and aren't afraid to share their photos!
Although there are no suits for men or children, we give S4A high marks for making it easy for larger ladies to find swimsuits that are both fun and flattering, and that won't break the bank. Swimsuits for All earns high marks.
As a division of Swimwear Anywhere, Inc., Coco Reef focuses on "bra-sized swimwear" that particularly helps women who wear cup sizes of C and larger to get an ideal, comfortably-fitting swimsuit. Their selection includes traditional bikinis, tankinis, one-piece bathing suits, and cover-ups, along with several options in plus sizes 1X-3X.
The website makes it easy to see each swimsuit and swim separate from a variety of angles and in all of the available color/pattern varieties, simply by clicking on the image of the model. Shoppers can use the top navigation to start shopping by new arrivals, style collections, tops and bottoms, one-piece swimsuits, cover-ups, plus size, or outlet. The left-hand side of the screen then allows the results to be sorted according to band or cup size, color, style, and price range. Each suit also has a guide for sizing, helping customers ensure that the suit they order is the best possible fit.
Coco Reef accepts returns of unused, non-outlet swimsuits within 30 days of purchase; the customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping, and any shipping costs paid originally will not be refunded. This return policy offers no satisfaction guarantee if, after wearing, a swimsuit proves to be unsatisfactory (for example, it stretches out or breaks down too quickly due to chlorine exposure). Fortunately, there are hundreds of happy customers who give high marks to the quality and fit of the suits sold by Coco Reef.
In fact, the only negative comments we found with respect to Coco Reef's swimwear were based on the price. Although there were a small number of suits available for less than $100, the majority of the options were priced between $100-$200, especially for the more popular swim separates (such as bikini tops and bottoms). However, at the time of our review, there was a pop-up offering 10% off for joining Coco Reef's email list, 35% off site wide, and free shipping on all orders of $99 or more, making a purchase at Coco Reef much more affordable.
Shoppers should also be aware that Coco Reef carries no swimwear for men or children, and we also didn't see any women's swimwear that would be appropriate for more athletic purposes such as swimming laps or competing in a triathlon.
Overall, Coco Reef may be the ideal swimsuit shopping destination for women who traditionally have a hard time finding a good fit on top because of wearing a larger cup size and enjoy the latest in attractive swimwear.
New Jersey retailer Swimsuits Direct hopes to make swimsuit shopping fun. With a wide variety of swimwear for women, juniors, girls, and even babies, shoppers can find many different styles for their swimsuit needs. Available brands include Body Glove, Jessica Simpson, Lucky Brand, and Anne Cole.
Prices at Swimsuits Direct are competitive, and their "About Us" page says that they do match prices with other retailers (though no specifics were offered as to the process to do so). We got a pop-up offering 15% off our next order for entering our email address, which presumably would sign us up for their email list.
Searching for swimwear at Swimsuits Direct had a few quirks. For example, when searching for the popular Gottex Rio tankini to compare prices, the search returned more than 100 results, most of which only matched the word "Rio" and not the designer. Otherwise, the process was fairly simple: choose a category from the top such as women or girls, then select either the style of the suit or the brand name. It was also easy to see what each suit looked like from multiple angles. We were also glad to see a variety of swimsuits in those same brands in plus sizes up to 24W, making it more likely that shoppers of all shapes and sizes will find something that fits.
Swimsuits Direct carries a moderate collection of accessories, from cover-ups to Havaianas flip-flops.
Shipping at Swimsuits Direct is $5, regardless of the order total. Their return policy is more generous than some of the retailers in our review: unused swimwear can be returned within 60 days for a full refund.
Because of their customer-friendly shipping and returns policy, and their selection that includes swimwear for juniors, girls, and plus sizes, we give Swimsuits Direct good marks. That rating would easily improve with swimwear options for men, and maybe with the addition of a few lines of swim apparel for more athletic needs such as competitive swimming, but overall they're a solid choice among online swimsuit retailers.
Looking at the swimwear sold by Fit Swimsuit, it will come as no surprise that this online retailer is based out of Miami. From leopard print bikinis to one-piece styles with mesh cutouts, their style definitely leans towards "sexy" and "attention-getting". Surprisingly, Fit Swimsuit is one of only a few stores in our review that also offer cute, trendy swim shorts for men and boys.
Pricing at Fit Swimsuit ranges from $45 to $145. We also noticed a pop-up that offered a $20 discount, free shipping and a free "bandhead" when signing up for Fit Swimsuit's email list. We were somewhat puzzled by Fit Swimsuit's low price guarantee: the site explains that there is one, but doesn't describe the terms or the process for requesting a price match pre- or post-sale. However, we did see that Fit Swimsuit's prices were considerably lower than other retailers; for example, the Montoya Leopard bikini in rose was on sale for $75, while Fit Swimsuit's competitor site listed only the top for nearly double the cost!
Fit Swimsuit's returns policy falls short compared with most of the other retailers in our review: customers only have 7 days from delivery to return products, as opposed to two weeks or a month as their competitors offer. Additionally, there is a 15% restocking fee charged if items are being returned for a refund rather than exchanged for a new item.
Also, sizing at Fit Swimsuit is extremely limited: many of the styles we considered were available only in a small, a few in size medium, and none in larger sizes.
Finally, the usability of the site varies. On the one hand, it's simple to sort suits based on body type (for example, pear, strawberry, hourglass, and so on), as well as by price and availability, among other options, On the other hand, many of the swimsuits only provide a frontal view, leaving shoppers to wonder what the suit looks like in the back, and we noticed that some items' descriptions didn't match the product.
One plus is that Fit Swimsuit has positive reviews on its Facebook page, with users complimenting the on-point fashions available at this online retailer, and very up-to-date posts on the latest trends in summer swimwear. It appears that Fit Swimsuit is a newer addition to the online swimwear market and may be working out some of the kinks in their website. We give them 3 stars, and we look forward to seeing their improvements as they gain more experience as an online retailer of swimsuits.
South Beach is swim style personified. From Mommy-and-Me matching swimsuits to jeweled and embroidered designer labels, they've got something for everyone - including girls, boys, and men.
South Beach also has something for every budget: from $10 bikinis from last year's styles to $400+ couture swimwear you might see on the cover of a magazine. However, we were less impressed by South Beach's pricing when comparing with other retailers. On one item in a very popular swimsuit line, Vitamin A, we quickly found that while the direct-from-the-designer price was higher, at least four competitor sites had the same item for 15% less than South Beach's list price. On that same item in the Vitamin A line, we also noticed that in a size 10, the bottom was able to ship immediately while the top would take 2-4 weeks; again, South Beach's competitors had the complete bikini ready to ship.
South Beach does offer a price matching guarantee, and at the time of our review they were offering 40% off all of the current year's styles. Unfortunately, that discount also means that all sales are final, as their return policy states that any items purchased at that level of discount or higher are returnable for store credit or exchange only.
A positive feature of South Beach's swimsuit collection is that they are one of the few retailers in our review to offer swimwear for boys, girls, and men, including matching swimsuits for moms and daughters. We were pleased to see that the swimwear for little girls was also age-appropriate.
Also, South Beach offers a toll-free number for shoppers who would like the help of a swimsuit consultant to find the right fit for their shape and swimwear needs.
Customer reviews for South Beach Swimsuits run the gamut, from incredibly pleased to extremely dissatisfied. We'd love to see some newer reviews on the company's website, as the most recent dates back to 2014 (though more current reviews are available on other sites).
With retail locations in California and Hawaii, Swim Spot's online store features swimwear with a distinct West Coast feel. Brands you'll find at Swim Spot include Hurley, Juicy Couture, Ella Moss, Vix, and Beach Riot. The site is easy to navigate; shoppers can shop by category and filter by color, size, and price, among others. We love how customers can easily see the back view of every suit, just by hovering over the model's image - no click or zoom necessary.
Swim Spot's prices are competitive with other online swimsuit stores. At the time of our review, the home page featured a limited-time offer for 30% off all purchases; there was also an option to enter one's email address for a 15% discount when signing up for Swim Spot's "insiders" email list. Standard shipping is free on all orders over $50, which includes most swimwear in their collection.
Swim Spot's return policy is comparable to other reputable retailers in our review: unworn swimwear may be returned within 30 days of purchase. Return shipping is free if the customer is exchanging the item for another; otherwise, the customer may either use their own shipping method or use a Swim Spot return label with the understanding that $8 will be deducted from their refund.
Noticeably absent from Swim Spot's selection is anything for men and boys. They do have a small collection for girls, primarily bikinis. Also, while the company has a nice variety of "active wear", including Next's line of swimwear that includes styles labeled as "barre to beach", you won't find swimsuits for more athletic water sports such as competitive swimming or triathlon. Sizes are also limited; we saw only one suit available in sizes larger than 16 (and it was only in-stock in size 18W), and no cup sizes bigger than a 38DD.
Because many shoppers might not find what they're looking for in Swim Spot's limited offerings for men, children, and plus sizes, we've given them a lower rating.
Whether you're playing in the waves at the ocean or training for your next triathlon, there's one piece of "equipment" that is essential: a Swimsuit! From a casual, comfortable swimsuit, to a cute little string bikini, to a racerback competition suit, having the right swimwear will help you be comfortable and enjoy whatever you're doing in the water.
However, if you live in a part of the country where summer temperatures only last a few months (or weeks!), you could find it increasingly difficult to find a swimsuit at other times of the year. If you're going on a Caribbean cruise in January, for example, you're not likely to find anything at all in a local retail store, let alone a swimsuit that is fashionable and fits well.
Fortunately, online stores make it simple and affordable to find the right swimsuit any time of year. With just a click of the mouse, you can search among thousands of options in a wide variety of styles and sizes and have the perfect swimwear sent directly to your doorstep.
However, when looking at different online swimsuit retailers, you should consider several key factors. So that you have the best possible shopping experience, both while searching for the right bathing suit and with any potential returns or other customer service issues, you should keep the following in mind:
TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Swimsuit stores available today. We hope these reviews help you find the perfect swimwear for your needs!
