But, if you take the time to walk around the mall or go to expensive jewelry stores you'll find that most offer a very limited selection of watch brands and styles. Also, prices seem to be fixed across all the stores and sales are limited to clearance items and damaged goods.

The Watchery

Cost:

From $10.99 to $100,000+

The Watchery is an online watch retailer in business since 1997 that advertises guaranteed authentic watches at bargain prices. Clearly authenticity is a priority at The Watchery, as they address the issue in several ways on the main page. They specifically offer a "shop with confidence, 100% guaranteed" policy to put customers at ease.

Categories across a menu bar include men's watches, women's watches, best sellers, diamond watches and a sale/clearance category. On the left hand side there is a menu where you can choose a watch by brand, color, movement type, case size, band color or other criteria, making it very easy to quickly pinpoint the kind of watch you are looking for. There are hundreds of brands and thousands of watches available; the selection seems endless and was quite a bit more extensive than other similar online watch retailers. Each product shows the MSRP price and the discounted price you will pay if your order online from The Watchery.

From our comparison, we found that prices were competitive with other discount online watch retailers. Shipping is free for any order (no minimum purchase) and they offer a 2 day shipping option for $5.00. Additional expedited shipping is available.

All watches from The Watchery come with a warrantee based on the brand of watch. Basically it is just an extension of the warrantee that you would get if you bought from the manufacturer directly. The list of brands is easy to find and you can quickly determine exactly what your warrantee will include.

The return/refund policy is fairly decent. You have 30 days to return any unused, undamaged merchandise as long as the watch is in its original condition and you have the original packaging and documentation. You have to call a customer service representative to get a return number to include, and you must pay for return shipping, but otherwise you can return an unwanted product for any reason.

With a massive selection, easy to use website, good return policy and competitive prices, The Watchery is a great place to shop for name brand watches.

Brathwait

Cost:

Starting at $159

Braithwait seeks to provide men and women with elegant, premium watches "without the luxury markup". In their design and marketing alike, this retailer aims for simplicity, luxury, and transparency.

Will you find what you're looking for at Braithwait? That depends. If you want a fitness watch, an entry-level wristwatch, or a variety of brands to choose from, the answer is "no". On the other hand, if you're specifically shopping for a classic-looking, minimalist design, especially with automatic winding, Braithwait may be worth considering.

Braithwait's watch lines consist of the following, available in styles for both men and women:

  • Classic Slim: Swiss quartz precision movement, water resistant to 100 meters, dome sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating; straps available ranging from stainless steel mesh to Melano top grain Italian leather
  • Swiss Classic: similar to the Classic Slim in terms of features and options, the Classic also features a brushed case with luminous hands
  • Automatic Minimalist: featuring the Miyota Ca. 9015 high-beat movement, this model is powered by the kinetic energy of the wearer - no battery required

Customer reviews of the three Braithwait watches are mixed. With the automatic model, some wearers complain about the amount of noise that it makes, even compared with other automatic models by other manufacturers. We also found some comments that the watch straps aren't always suitable for people with larger wrists. On the other hand, many customers praise the construction, quality, and look of Braithwait's timepieces and were very satisfied with their purchase.

We found Braithwait's return policy to be somewhat confusing. At first, we were excited to see their "try-before-you-keep" policy, until we read that the watch has to be unworn in order to qualify. We're not sure how you try a watch without wearing it, especially for the automatic watches that rely on the wearer's movements for power. In general, however, Braithwait's return policy allows for returns within 30 days of delivery, and they cover the cost of the return shipping.

On a more positive note, Braithwait has a 12-month warranty and free worldwide shipping on all orders. We appreciate these customer-friendly policies.

Braithwait watches do seem to be well-made, stylish, and appropriately priced. But, if you're looking for a variety of styles, brands, or price points, this retailer probably won't meet all of your needs.

For those price-sensitive shoppers, and those looking for something unique, finding a good deal and a new look are more of a challenge.

Instead of buying at traditional stores, many savvy shoppers are turning to online watch stores to meet their selection and price needs. When looking at online watch stores, there are a number of features to consider before spending your time and money making a purchase. Some of these include:

  • Selection.  Some stores offer thousands of watches, while others keep few in stock. You'll want to shop at a store where the selection is large enough to find what you're looking for.
  • Price.  Prices can vary greatly between online stores. Some offer more incentives to purchase than others.
  • Return Policy.  After making your selection and receiving the watch, are you going to be able to get your money back if you're not satisfied?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best watch stores available today. We hope these reviews help you with your next watch purchase!
