TJ Formal is a large US based company with an excellent reputation that has been around for over 40 years. They carry a very large selection of wedding dresses, mother-of-the bride dresses, prom dresses and much more.
The prices at TJ Formal are very competitive, especially for the quality of the wedding dresses they provide. For example, they offer over 80 attractive wedding dresses for under $300. For those who can spend a little more, they feature 900+ wedding dresses priced from $300 all the way up to $2,000. Keep in mind, these are the same wedding dresses that you'll find priced much higher at local retail stores.
Wedding dresses at TJ Formal are organized by designer and style. The search options work flawlessly and are useful in helping you narrow down your selection.
We spoke with a customer service representative who was very friendly and knowledgeable. She assured us that the wedding dresses seen online in the pictures from the designer are the same wedding dresses that the customer receives. They are not knock-off styles like many of the other, lower ranked offshore companies we reviewed.
TJ Formal has the most extensive FAQ section of all the companies we reviewed. It contains helpful information on ordering, inventory, measurements, payment, and much more. They also provide dresses for other wedding attendees, such as bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses, and mother of the bride dresses. We thought it very convenient that you can do all of your wedding dress shopping at one place.
As far as shipping costs for your wedding dress, TJ Formal offers free ground shipping on all orders. We found this pleasantly surprising and is another factor that makes TJ Formal stand out from the crowd.
TJ Formal provides a wide selection of wedding dresses, competitive pricing, and helpful customer service. For all these reasons, TJ formal has earned our highest rating.
Best Bridal Prices has over 4,000 wedding dress options, the largest selection of all companies reviewed. Their inventory also includes Bridesmaids, Mothers, Flower girls and many more formal dresses for other types of parties. They also offer shoes, accessories, intimate wear, and headpieces. Best Bridal Prices off top designer names such as Alfred Angelo, Mori Lee, Davinci, Moonlight, Allure, Rosalie, Forever Yours, Watters and Watters, and more. The family owned and operated company has been in business for over 30 years.
Even with so many wedding dress options, Best Bridal Prices has made it very simple to find the perfect dress for you. When you first start looking at the wedding dress section, there are some great tips and trends to check out at the top of the page. There is also a Blog that has some informative wedding information as well. Once you are ready to start the search for your dress you can easily filter your options by Designer, Price, Style, Rating, Fabric, Neckline and Sleeve length. If any questions come up, a friendly customer service representative may be reached phone or email.
Best Bridal Prices offers free shipping on select items, and accepts returns on new un-touched non-altered wedding gowns. However, no special order dresses may be returned. You must verbally contact Best Bridal Prices within 3 days of receiving your dress, to receive an RMA for return. Please note, a 50% restocking fee (on the full retail price) will be assessed to a returned dress. While 50% seems high, most of the other companies reviewed do not allow returns at all, so this is a step above most of the others.
Best Bridal Prices has the largest selection of wedding dresses with over 4,000 to choose from, has very competitive prices and an option for returns. This along with a well-designed website places them as our highest rated company.
BHLDN, or "Beholden", gets its name from the Dutch word meaning "to keep". As an Anthropologie brand, this Wedding Dress retailer prides itself on having a "passion for tradition with a twist", selling heirloom-quality gowns, camisoles and skirts with "timeless style from another era".
With respect to selection, BHLDN carries a smaller range than many of the stores in our review: 40 designers and 54 gowns in sizes ranging from 0-18. Pricing is typically more expensive as well, with the lowest-priced gown retailing for $600 and dresses up to $3,600. Fortunately, when comparing a particular selection, such as the Nicole Miller "Dakota" gown, BHLDN's prices were very competitive with other online retailers.
Also, BHLDN's return policy is much more generous than many of their competitors. Wedding dresses can be returned within 30 days, provided that they are in original condition with all tags attached and in their original packaging. A prepaid UPS label is included in every shipment. It is important to note that while BHLDN currently has over a dozen brick-and-mortar locations, wedding dresses purchased online cannot be returned in-person.
Shipping is $10.95 for orders of $501 and up, plus an additional charge of $15 for all wedding gowns. We would love to see a more generous shipping policy, like many of the other wedding dress retailers in our review.
What we love about BHLDN is their focus on helping brides find the perfect dress for their special day. Stylists are available via phone or email to help with selecting and sizing the right dress, and brides are eagerly encouraged to make that connection as they shop for a gown. Even using the website is simple: shoppers can narrow down their options by back detail, style (for example, A-Line, Strapless, Sheath, Mermaid, and Ball Gown), and length - or absence - of sleeves.
When looking at a particular dress, brides can see BHLDN's recommended pairings for jewelry, veils, and so forth, or they can choose from the wide variety of accessories available on the corresponding pages on the site. Most of the wedding dresses also have customer reviews that can help shoppers get a real-world perspective on the feel, weight, and fit of the gown. Best of all, BHLDN provides specific hints with respect to alterations. For example, on a gown with detailed beading, the dress's information clearly states that an expert tailor will be required if the dress needs to be shortened.
Although their selection is narrower - and average prices are higher - than many of the retailers we reviewed, BHLDN makes it possible for brides to find a truly classic look in a high-quality gown, and to easily return the purchase if it winds up not being a good match.
With a history spanning 60 years and retail stores throughout the US, Canada, and UK, David's Bridal is well-established as a Wedding Dress retailer. Their website is incredibly user-friendly, and makes it easy to find exactly the style, color, and price range you're looking for. Using the options on the left-hand side of the page, you can sort the 1,500 available dresses by designer, such as Vera Wang, Oleg Cassini, and nearly a dozen others; or, by style, price, color, silhouette, length, straps/sleeves, or neckline.
Additional features include the ability to save favorite items to multiple lists - bridesmaids dresses and accessories, flower girl dresses, and so on - to keep track of potential choices while shopping; a budget planner, to keep an eye on expenses; and even the David's Bridal Rewards program, offering discounts and savings of up to $2,000 with DB's national partners, such as $40 off every tuxedo rental from Men's Wearhouse and discounts on wedding rings at Helzberg Diamonds.
David's Bridal has a selection that truly covers every prospective bride. If you're on a budget, David's has 100 dresses under $200. Looking for something elegant and high-end? There are 500 dresses in the $800-and-up range. And, David's Bridal is one of the few retailers in our review that has a wide selection for both petites (women 5'4" and under) and plus sizes, up to 30W.
At the time of our review, shipping was free for all orders of $99 and more; there was also a pop-up for free shipping as well as a contest to win a wedding dress. In general, returns of dresses purchased online are accepted within 14 days of shipping, provided the dress is in original condition. Wedding dresses purchased online may not be returned to any David's Bridal store and can only be returned by mail.
We did find several customer complaints that they received dresses that were stained and that it took some time to have them replaced by customer service, but in general their shoppers are satisfied with their online wedding dress purchase. Because of their incredibly wide selection for brides of all budgets, sizes, and preferences, we recommend David's Bridal as a good place to find a wedding dress.
eDressMe is a New York based company that began in 2001 as a dress site for Tango dancers. They offer a very wide selection of special occasion dresses at competitive prices. They were our top-ranked company in Prom Dresses. The reason they fall just about average for wedding dresses is they only offer more "informal" wedding dresses deemed more for destination weddings. There are only 21 wedding dress options to choose from and probably won't meet the needs of the majority of our shoppers.
The website is well organized and since there are only a few wedding dress options, you really don't need to navigate much to view all of their options. However, one nice option at eDressMe, that most of the other companies do not offer, is price matching and price adjustments. If you find the exact same dress, in stock from another company, they will match the price. Also, if the price of your dress is reduced within 14 days of purchase, they will adjust your price accordingly.
Unlike many other companies reviewed, eDressMe also offers store credit or exchanges for dresses that do not meet your satisfaction. You only have 3 days from receiving your order to contact them. Please check the website for more information in regards to their customer service policies.
eDressMe is United States based, reputable company that stands behind their product. Their prices are very competitive, yet their wedding dress selection is limited. If you are looking for a more casual wedding dress eDressMe is a great option, if you want something more formal, we would suggest you search one of the higher ranked companies.
House of Brides is an online wedding store that has multiple retail locations in the Chicago area. Unlike some of the lower-rated companies in our review that feature knock-off designer wedding dresses, House of Brides sells the actual designer wedding dresses at discounted prices.
Interestingly, online prices for House of Brides are much cheaper than their retail locations. This is important, because they don't honor the Internet prices in the stores. We found some poor reviews of the customer service in House of Brides stores, as well as complaints with delays in receiving wedding dresses when the stores had to order them directly. The owner of House of Brides was also in the news recently for pleading guilty to fraudulent sales tax returns. It seems that ordering online is a better option than buying in the store.
The website is an average looking website. The search for your wedding dress can be narrowed down by many categories including designer, price, neckline, waistline, fabric, sleeve length and much more. They do not offer alterations through their website and suggest that you try on the wedding dress at a bridal store before ordering to make sure the wedding dress is what you want. Of course, once you receive the wedding dress you can find someone locally who can make small changes for you.
Free shipping is offered on all wedding dress purchases. Unfortunately, House of Brides does not accept any returns whatsoever. Once the purchase is complete, the order cannot be cancelled or returned. That is a large risk, especially since some people may not be able to see the wedding dress in person.
Despite the good selection and fair pricing, House of Brides drops in our ratings due to some website functionality issues and the lack of any return policy.
Milanoo is another Chinese Wholesaler company. They offer a large selection of products beyond wedding dresses including costumes, holiday supplies, jewelry, wigs and much more.
The prices are very cheap, but the quality is very cheap as well. The wedding dress pictures shown on the website are pictures from designers. They are the template for what the wedding dress will be made to look like, but will not be the same wedding dress.
Many of the complaints we found included poor quality, wrong sizing (even when the accurate measurements are submitted for a custom wedding dress), and poor customer service when trying to return the wedding dress.
There is a nice reference section in the FAQ's about style advice for wedding dresses. It explains which styles of wedding dresses are best for different body types. Free shipping is offered for wedding dresses over $75. There is a 7-day return policy and a 15-day exchange policy for wedding dresses with "quality problem" - which is ultimately up to the company's discretion. You need to be sure to read and be comfortable with the full return and exchange policy before making a purchase, as there is specific wording that can prevent you from returning your wedding dress.
Due to the poor quality of wedding dresses and customer service complaints, Milanoo receives a low rating.
Top Wedding offers a wide selection of wedding gowns, with more than 1,700 dresses in a variety of designs currently featured on their website. The site is easy to use, with left-hand navigation that allows brides to narrow down their options by price, silhouette, fabric, body shape, and several other categories. Customers can also sort by designer, but even their most popular one, Amaranta, didn't show up on any other retailers' sites; there are no dresses from more recognized names like Vera Wang or Oleg Cassini.
Top Wedding's customer reviews are a mixed bag. Some shoppers are very pleased with their purchase, stating that the dress exactly matched their expectations, was shipped on time, and that customer service handled any issues promptly. On the other hand, there are more than a few customers who had serious problems with getting orders delivered, with finding that the gown delivered was of much lower quality than what was pictured on the site, or that no help was offered by customer service until they posted a negative review online. Coupled with a discouraging F rating by the Better Business Bureau, these negative experiences make it difficult to know if a bride will receive the dress she wants in a timely fashion and if it will match what she saw on Top Wedding's website.
In fact, we suspect that Top Wedding is similar to other Chinese-based wedding retailers in our review that post images of dresses from high-end designers and then create copies to sell to their own customers. We found several dresses in the Morilee line by Madeline Gardner, for example, that are represented on Top Wedding's site with no mention of the designer, the line, or with any indication that the gowns sold are actually authentic.
Top Wedding's return policy is equally murky. On the return policy page, it says that there are no returns or exchanges on Dresses, unless the product received is incorrect (such as the wrong color, size, and so on). When reading through Top Wedding's detailed return instructions, it becomes clear that only returns that meet very strict criteria will actually be approved by their customer service department.
Although some customers have been very happy with their purchase from Top Wedding, their lack of accreditation and F rating with the BBB, along with seemingly sketchy practices (such as selling designer dresses with no credit given to those designers) leave us with a number of serious questions about the site's credibility. We strongly suggest that brides start their shopping with one of the more reputable retailers in our review.
Based in Hong Kong, Eric Dress sells wedding gowns in a variety of styles and price points. Shoppers can use the left-hand navigation to sort dresses by price range, silhouette, hemline, back details, season, embellishments, sleeve length, train, body shape, material, waist, and even by wedding venue.
According to the returns page, Eric Dress's policy allows customers to return or exchange unworn, clean dresses with tags intact within 30 days from the delivered date. Customers must contact the Eric Dress customer service department first, or the return shipment may be refused. Unfortunately, numerous reviews show that customers have difficulty getting in touch with the customer service department, as phone calls and emails both go unanswered.
Many of these returns are likely due to the dresses not arriving as pictured in the photos - often with differences in style, cut, sizing, or materials when compared with the original images featured on the site. While the site claims to use professional photography to capture the images of the dresses, some of the photographs were taken from personal wedding blogs (and the watermark was removed, as evidenced by the pixelation in the photos on Eric Dress).
Shipping costs depend on the item, and presumably by weight, but Eric Dress's estimates left us puzzled. On a heavily beaded gown with a long train, we were told that the weight was just under five pounds, and that shipping would be from $16.90 - $27.49. Several customers claimed that their shipping costs were almost double the price of the dress, and any returns place the cost of shipping on the buyer.
While we like both the variety of the dresses and the reasonable prices offered by Eric Dress, we cannot confidently recommend them to brides who are looking for a reputable online retailer for their wedding dress.
Light in the Box is a Chinese Wholesale company with over 95,000 products that include wedding dresses, cell phones, health and beauty products, outdoor sports, and much more. The categories of wedding dresses are listed on the left side, offering many different options to select from. The website is organized well and has a clean look.
Each wedding dress ordered is either custom made or tailored to the customer's measurements. This causes the wedding dress to be shipped at a minimum of 16 working days from when the order is placed. The shipping costs vary based upon each item, they are calculated at checkout.
The website looks nice, but with a little more research about customer's experiences purchasing wedding dresses from Light in the Box, we have grave concerns about their quality of wedding dresses and customer service. There are more complaints listed about this company then any other company we reviewed. Many of the complaints have to do with the extremely poor quality of wedding dress received, stating that the wedding dress pictured on the website does not reflect the quality of wedding dress received.
The website states that the pictures shown with the model and the wedding dress are taken in their studios, but we found the same exact pictures listed on many other company's websites. These pictures in fact come directly from the wedding dress designers themselves, showing the falsehood in Light in the Box's claims. Other complaints involve trying to contact customer service and not being able to get a hold of a real person. We repeatedly called the phone number listed and could not get a live person on the phone either.
The return policy makes the customer believe that it should be an easy process to return a wedding dress. However, we found many complaints that once a customer was able to get ahold of the company, they often received the run around and were told the wedding dress could not be returned.
There is too much negative feedback on this company for us to recommend it. With several better wedding dress options available, we suggest you shop elsewhere.
Dressily Me is based in China and sells occasions wear, such as wedding and prom dresses, along with a selection of jewelry and accessories, lingerie, and swimwear. Their website is full of thousands of dresses in every style and color imaginable, and shoppers can easily narrow down the options using categories like "Luxury Styles" and "Reception Dresses", along with more detailed information like train or sleeve length, waistline, silhouette, and trend collection.
If you're looking to get a wedding dress on a shoestring budget, you'll be impressed by the prices at Dressily Me. Unfortunately, you may be extremely disappointed by what you actually receive. The dresses sold by Dressily Me are copies of those pictured on their website, not originals. For example, the dress labeled as "Stunning Satin A-line Sweetheart Neckline Wedding Dress" was originally the Private Label by G Bridal Gown (Style 1346) and was discontinued in 2013. (You can even see the attempt to remove the watermark from the photo on the Dressily Me site.) While buying it from Dressily Me may save you $800, you can't count on getting a high-quality replica: our research found review after review that complained about dresses that fit horribly (despite having supposedly been made to the customer's specifications), didn't come close to looking like what was pictured, or were made from very cheap materials.
It is understandable that a retailer would not allow for custom-made items to be returned - but Dressily Me customers should be aware that, because nearly every wedding dress sold there is made to order, they will not be able to return their dress if there are issues. We feel that their stated policy on dresses that arrive with glaring measurement differences from what the customer specified - "find a local tailor to make adjustments" and "please kindly forgive" any errors within one inch - can put brides in the difficult position of winding up with a badly-made wedding dress that can't be fixed or returned.
Because of the numerous reviews that describe major problems with the wedding dresses delivered by Dressily Me, we cannot confidently recommend that brides-to-be shop there for their special day. We strongly recommend choosing a retailer that sells dresses that are manufactured by the original designer, not a company that sells knock-off copies at deeply discounted prices.
A wedding is one of the most special and memorable times of a woman's life. When getting ready for such an important day, every bride wants to feel attractive and confident. That all starts with a beautiful, well-fitting wedding dress.
Finding the right wedding dress, however, can be a time-consuming and frustrating experience. Driving from store to store, trying on different wedding dresses, and agonizing over limited selections can quickly turn the event into a nightmare.
Shopping for a wedding dress online can alleviate all of these frustrations. With the click of a mouse, you can browse through hundreds of wedding dresses from a variety of top wedding dress designers. You can find wedding dresses in all different sizes and colors, and often at a much lower cost than anything you can find in a local store.
However, not all wedding dress stores are the same. You should consider a few important factors when starting your wedding dress shopping effort:
TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best wedding dress stores available today. We hope this information helps you find that perfect wedding dress for your beautiful wedding!
