Cost:

From $279 to $2,600

Fortune Wigs, a Brooklyn New York based company, specializes in human hair wigs, extensions and toppers. This family owned business has been around for over 10 years, and their goal is to provide attractive and comfortable wigs with a commitment to customer service.

With approximately 90 wigs to choose from we weren't that concerned that the website required we sort and view by brand when looking for a wig. This was a bit cumbersome but not that time consuming. Each product allows the customer to customize to meet their needs. Have the wig styled for an additional fee, select from 1 of 13 hair colors, and then choose small, medium or large. All wigs are multi-directional at Fortune Wigs. Meaning, the location of the part may be changed to allow for multiple styles. You'll also find monofilament wigs which work great for those with sensitive scalps due to hair loss.

Prices for human hair are almost always more expensive than synthetic but with some priced, as low as, $279 we know affordable options exist for anyone wanting an authentic looking hair solution. When comparing prices of the same product to other websites we found that Fortune Wigs was either slightly lower or consistently competitive with other companies.

Fortune Wigs offers a free shipping option as well as 4 to 5 other choices depending on your urgency and location. Wigs may be returned, unworn and unaltered, within 10 days for a full refund. Each wig also comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty against defects. Fortune is committed to the customers satisfaction and is happy to alter, re-cut, re-size, etc to create exactly what you're looking for. In fact, they have a long list of salon services available for the care of your wig in years to come. You may call or email the company for assistance.

Fortune Wigs is a great choice when shopping for a human hair wig. Their selection, customization options, pricing and commitment to the customer gives this company a high ranking among wig companies.

Cost:

From $45 to $640

Started more than two decades ago by a Minneapolis father who saw first-hand how difficult it could be for his four daughters to get quality hair products, Sunny's is now run by those daughters in three brick-and-mortar locations nationwide as well as online.

Despite the name, Sunny's Hair and Wigs only has three lace-style wigs, all with Indian hair; their primary product is hair extensions, with brands like Virgin, Le Privé, Bohyme, and Lord & Cliff. While this may deter customers looking for full wigs in a variety of colors, or who do not want to visit a colorist to alter the deeply dark hair of an Indian wig, Sunny's product selection with respect to extensions is quite broad both in color and length as well as style (for example, clip-in, tape-in, wefted, and pre-tipped).

While no specific shipping policy is listed, it appears that all orders are shipped free regardless of order size. They have a strict no refund policy on all purchases, with the exception of Indian Hair Extensions; however, because Sunny's understands that customers may be skeptical of online vendors or unsure that their wave pattern or colors will blend, they do allow returns within seven days if the binding has not been removed. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs.

We like Sunny's blog, with great ideas for caring for hair extensions as well as hair in general, style trends, and even recommendations for cleaning hair tools. This provides terrific information for shoppers of all hair types.

Although Sunny's Hair and Wigs will not meet the needs of most customers who specifically need full wigs, their easy-to-use website, free shipping, and wide variety of quality extensions make them a satisfactory retailer within the category.

Not all wig retailers are the same. Before shopping for a new wig, you should consider the following factors:

  • Selection. How many wigs does the company offer? Do they sell both human hair wigs and synthetic wigs?
  • Price. Is the pricing for the wigs competitive with other wig retailers? What can you expect to pay for a quality wig?
  • Customer Service. Is the wig store geared towards the customer with a return policy, affordable shipping, and easy website navigation?
