Started more than two decades ago by a Minneapolis father who saw first-hand how difficult it could be for his four daughters to get quality hair products, Sunny's is now run by those daughters in three brick-and-mortar locations nationwide as well as online.
Despite the name, Sunny's Hair and Wigs only has three lace-style wigs, all with Indian hair; their primary product is hair extensions, with brands like Virgin, Le Prive, Bohyme, and Lord & Cliff. While this may deter customers looking for full wigs in a variety of colors, or who do not want to visit a colorist to alter the deeply dark hair of an Indian wig, Sunny's product selection with respect to extensions is quite broad both in color and length as well as style (for example, clip-in, tape-in, wefted, and pre-tipped).
While no specific shipping policy is listed, it appears that all orders are shipped free regardless of order size. They have a strict no refund policy on all purchases, with the exception of Indian Hair Extensions; however, because Sunny's understands that customers may be skeptical of online vendors or unsure that their wave pattern or colors will blend, they do allow returns within seven days if the binding has not been removed. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs.
We like Sunny's blog, with great ideas for caring for hair extensions as well as hair in general, style trends, and even recommendations for cleaning hair tools. This provides terrific information for shoppers of all hair types.
Although Sunny's Hair and Wigs will not meet the needs of most customers who specifically need full wigs, their easy-to-use website, free shipping, and wide variety of quality extensions make them a satisfactory retailer within the category.
De Novo Hair is a Baltimore based company that sells essentially three styles of custom, full lace, Indian Remy hair wigs. Each wig may be customized in color, length and size. De Novo Hair also sells a small selection of lace frontals and hair pieces. The shopping experience is a bit of a challenge with this website. Awkward navigation and selection keys left us confused, at times.
To shop the wig selection at De Novo Hair, the customer clicks on "In Stock Products" and finds a selection of precision cut, straight/uncut, and curly or wavy wigs . This is where the confusion starts. If you click on Precision cuts you're directed to three pictures listing again precision cut, uncut and wavy wigs. At this point, it appears their entire selection of wigs is limited to only 3 customizable options. However, after our third visit to the website we were surprised to find that if we clicked on "Styles Gallery" we would encounter over 150 different styles to choose from. De Novo also offers a nice option that allows customers to upload their own look to have stylists recreate.
It appears that many wigs at De Novo Hair are considered a custom purchase and shoppers can anticipate a 7-9 week time frame to complete. If an item is considered non-custom the shopper has 7 days to return. Custom orders may be exchanged for store credit which is great if the color and look don't work out. However, that does not include Unique Customer Color wigs which may not be returned or exchanged. The return and exchange rules are rather extensive and should be viewed prior to making a purchase.
De Novo Hair asks that 50% of the balance be paid at the time of order which is a non-refundable deposit. Shipping was a little pricey starting at $16 for ground and going up dramatically from there.
Overall, we think De Novo Hair provides high quality, beautiful wigs. We hope that in the future their online shopping experience dramatically changes for the better. When paying such a large sum of money, people want to feel confident in the effort and this website was just too confusing at times.
